Chapter Thirty-Two: Dumbeldore

Once Harry and Draco got into the Great Hall they noticed that they had a new teacher this year. It turned out that she was going to be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. Proffesor Lars, from last year, had retired at the end of the year. Their new teachers name was Professor Umbridge.

She reminded Harry of a large toad.

Harry and Draco had alot of catching up to do. Seeing as how they missed the first week of school they had a lot of homework to do. They didn't have a chance to talk to Dumbeldore, they were much too busy. It took them about a week to do all of their missed homework, and then the homework that they got during the classes they had began to attend.

"Maybe we should start trying to be nicer to the Gryffindors" Harry suggested one night.

"I don't think that would be wise just yet. We'll talk to Dumbeldore first, we don't need people noticing that we are switching." Draco whispered.

Harry nodded, that made perfect sense.

Their first days back to school brought alot of questions to them from schoolmates.

Expessially Pansy and Blaise.

Pansy was still quite pug like, but she had attractive attributes. Her lips were full, her bottom lip a little but fuller than her top one. Her eyes were nice too, if you got passed the sadness. She was slim, with a small bosom.

Blaise was tall, and handsome. His dark eyes were always accusing, and it set off a type of charm within him.

"Why are you guys late?"

"Have you talked to Nott lately?"

And the worst question of all.

"Do you know what actually happened to your parents?"

Blaise and Draco didn't get along for the first three years of school, but then Blaise realized that if didn't fuck around then Draco was a good guy. He didn't shove his nose in other people's business, and he was always a good person to talk to. He found amusement in almost any situation, and he was wise. Blaise, Draco and Harry were now friends. To an extent. They were still working on it.

Pansy just didn't fit in with all of the other females, so the three boys accepted her. They felt bad for her really, her life has been miserable. Her mother drinks all day, so she told them. She doesn't go anywhere, she doesn't do anything. Just drinks. Her father is an asshole, he doesn't drink, but he's a mean bastard. Pansy usually comes back the first week with a few bruises. She says that her father loves her. She has one memory that really 'proves it'.

:::::Flashback:::::

Pansy was sitting in her bedroom, playing with her new wand. She was leaving for Hogwarts for her second year in one day. She wasn't practicing any spells, because that would be bad, and she would get in a large amount of trouble, but she was practicing wand movements.

The next thing she new there was a large spider in front of her.

The biggest she had ever seen in her life. She must have accidentaly enlarged it.

She screamed loudly, dropped her wand and fled the room.

Her father was just down the hall.

"What's wrong with you?" He asked her.

Pansy couldn't find her voice, she just pointed at her room.

Her dad went into her room, and Pansy followed timidly behind. She didn't really want to lay eyes on that hideous thing again.

"Well?" He asked again, looking around the room perplexed.

She still couldn't speak, now she was at a loss for words because she also couldn't see it anywhere. Where had it gone? It was huge! It couldn't have just vanished!

He reached forward and slapped her hard on the back. She didn't do anything. He then punched her hard on the arm, just above her elbow, and it stung. There would definately be a bruise there tommorow.

"What.Is.It?" He asked menacingly.

She finally found her voice. "There was a spider." She said quietly.

"Oh, is that all? If you would have just said something I wouldn't of had to hit you. All girls are afraid of spiders" He said matter of factly.

He patted her lovingly on the head. "Lets get you to bed." He said.

He tucked her in and said goodnight.

He loved her very much, she just needed to listen.

:::::End Flashback:::::

She would also come back late at night sometimes, crying, and run straight to the boys' dormatory. They didn't ask directly, they knew what happened to her when she was with other boys.

They just calmed her down, cleaned her up and she was allowed to sleep in one of their beds for the night. They didn't like to sleep with her, mostly Harry and Draco, for obvious reasons, it felt wrong. She realized this in their fourth year and started sleeping in Blaise's bed all those nights she came.

The four of them got along good enough, they were friendly enough to each other. They didn't tell each other big secrets, and they didn't directly talk about Harry and Draco's choice of partners. They knew. It didn't need to be spoken of. Draco figured that was why they got along so well. They spoke when they needed to and didn't when they didn't need to.

So when all of the questions started Draco held up a hand to silence them.

"We are late because we had a funeral to attend," He said sadly, "And no, we don't know. So stop asking."

They quickly changed the subject.

****

A day after their first week Harry proposed that they approach Dumbeldore that night after dinner. Draco agreed.

They ate their dinner, mostly just picking at the plate, they couldn't help noticing that some of the students were reading the Daily Prophet with their meals, and most of them were peering around the paper, giving Harry and Draco an odd look, or a smile.

They left the Great Hall together when most of the students were departing. They walked to Dumbeldore's office slowly, trying to procrastinate. Did they really want to know?

Of course they did.

When they finally got to the Gargoyle they spent a good five minutes shouting candy names at it. When that didn't work they just cussed at it, Draco kicked it a few times, and Harry was in the middle of a good speal, full of curses, when someone came out of it.

Professor Snape came out, and he seemed like he was rushing. He stopped short at the two boys standing before him.

"Just who I was about to go find." He said curtly. "Follow me." And he turned around and went back up the staircase. The boys just looked at each other. Harry raised his eyebrows, and Draco shrugged his shoulders. They followed along.

They entered the office, and looked at Dumbledore. He was sitting at his desk with the Daily Prophet sitting open in front of him. He gave the boys a grim look. They just glanced at each other and looked back. This was suddenly very uncomfortable.

"Hello, boys." Dumbeldore said faintly. He lifted his hands up and rubbed his eyes slowly. He looked tired.

Before he said anything else he lifted up the Daily Prophet so they could see the front page headline.

"Malfoy Boys- Sad? Or Celebrating?"

The boys glanced at each other. "May we see that sir?" They asked politely. Dumbeldore handed the article to them and they bent their heads over it.

"The Malfoy heir and his 'brother', or for lack of a better word, 'lover' would be more appropriate. It seems that the two boys were making love on the train last week, on their way to their school, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This was very recent after the death of Lord and Lady Malfoy. Instead of greiving, the boys seemed to have come up with a different activity to take their minds off of their problems. Is it possible that they possibly don't care about their parents' deaths? Professor Dumbeldore has refused to comment on what will fall upon the two boys for their escapade, and the two boys have not *yet* been interveiwed." The article continued but Harry pulled his head up and looked right at Dumbeldore.

"What?" He asked, completely confused. He could feel the blush on his cheeks, and wouldn't be surprised if his whole body was flushed red.

Harry quickly looked at Draco, who was finishing the article. He slowly lifted his head, and his gaze met Harry's.

Dumbeldore cleared his throat, and both boys jumped out of their stupor. Their eyes instantly clicked on Dumbeldores.

"So I'm assuming that this is true?" He asked.

Draco nodded slowly, Harry just looked away. He was very embarassed right now.

"You are both going to be serving detention with Professor Snape for the next week. I think you should all know that the students will know, and there will have to be restrictions placed on the train now. I believe, although one can never be sure, that you are the first two to desicrate our train this way."

The boys nodded. What could they really say?

"She better not try and interveiw me." Harry said harshly, "She'll have another coming to her."

Dumbeldore smiled lightly. "Lets not cause trouble Harry." He said politely. It seemed he found this whole situation almost amusing.

"Well, that's all boys."

"Actually, sir. We were coming to talk to you about other matters." Draco said bravely.

Dumbeldore's eyes started twinkling. "And what would that be?" He asked.

"Well.." Draco looked at Harry expectantly. Harry picked it up. "Well, we've been corrosponding with Sirius, and he told us everything. About how it was Voldemort who killed my family, and not Peter Pettigrew," Dumbeldore looked positively startled at the thought that Peter was the one behind it all, "And we have come to talk to you about being on your side. We want to fight against him." Harry said quickly.

Dumbeldore was nodding his head. "I understand your want for this, but are you prepared to fight against the Dark Lord?"

"I'm not prepared yet, sir. But I could be with proper training."
Dumbeldore looked at Draco.

"Yes, sir. He had my parents murdered, I just know it."

Dumbeldore nodded again, the twinkling in his eyes was quickening. "Is it safe to assume that you boys were taught Occlumency?"

"Yes, sir." They said together.

"Ahh, good. It seems he had prepared you good. Too bad he didn't realize he was preparing you to fight against him."

"How should we go about switching?" Harry asked hesitantly. "Should we try to be nice to the Gryffindors?"

"Not all of them." Dumbeldore said, "If I was you, I would be more worried about getting on the good side of those involved with the Order?"

"The..what?"

"The Order of the Pheonix. That is all I can tell you, I need to be positive you are on our side. I am willing to take your word for it, but until I bring to the Order meetings, I can't tell you much more."

They understood.

"The students who are in the Order right now are the Weasleys, and Hermione Granger. You should probably try and befriend them. I know it's going to be difficult seeing as you had some differences in the past few years, but I think it's time to get past that." He said knowingly.

"Sir?" Harry asked.

"Yes, my boy?" Dumbeldore asked him politely.

"I just want to apologize for-" Dumbeldore held up his hand, effectively silencing Harry.

"No need. The next Order meeting will be next friday, that gives you one week to befriend them. Report to Professor Snapes office tommorow night at 8:00." He said.

They boys realized that the conversation was over.

"Okay." They said together. They stood up, thanked the man for his time and left the office.

Draco let out a deep breath when they exited the door.

"Well, that was easier than I thought it would be." Harry agreed, but he was angry.

"How did that bitch know what happened on the train. Now we have to go to detention!" Harry whined.

Draco looked smug, "I have no idea, but it was worth it." He said.
Harry let a small smile grace his features. "Yea, it was."

Rita Skeeter was forgot, for the time being.

"It's going to be hard to become friends with the Gryffindor's while we have detention every night of the week." Draco pointed out.

"We'll manage." He said.

"Do you think we should go find them and start working on them now?
It's a Friday, so they shouldn't be in their common rooms yet."

"Okay." Harry said shrugging.

They walked off to try and be friendly. It seemed impossible.
