Inheritance and Emptiness
Chapter 3: Inheritance and Emptiness
--D/H--
Draco Malfoy stood on the platform of nine and three quarters waiting for his friends to show up. It had been a long summer for Draco with knowing what he was. And, not being able to go and find his name. He had basically been put under house arrest by his parents and god father. Even when he had this dark ominous feeling that something horrible was happening to whoever his mate was, he wasn’t allowed to leave. His thoughts ran back to the night of his birthday at the beginning of the summer.
--
Narcissa walked into the room with a tray of chopped fruit and a glass of water. Draco lay in the large bed in the corner of the room trying not to move. His mother sat on the edge of his bed and feed him some of the fruit on the plate until he was satisfied. With a groan and with his mothers help he sat up. As he did he through his legs over the side of the bed, stretching his sore muscles. It had been a very, very long night.
“Are you okay to walk around, dragon?” His mothers tone was more worried than anything else. He only nodded as he grabbed a hold of his night stand and pulled himself into a standing position. Slowly, he started walking towards the bathroom. Half way across the room his legs started to give out on him and his mother quickly supported him.
The grateful smile on his face only lasted a moment before a grimace crossed his features. His mother finished helping him into the large bathroom and settled him in a warm bath. Draco sighed and sunk back into the water relaxing. The night before he had come into his creature inheritance.
Draco had known for a long time what he was and what he would be. Fae blood ran through the Malfoy families veins. When a fae child turned nine they would inherit their wings and small tattoos on their wrists and ankles in a unique design. Then, we they turned thirteen they would receive the ability and strength to lift themselves into the air with their wings. And, finally when they were seventeen they would receive their ability to control the elements and the ability to find their mate.
Every fae ever born had a destined mate and Narcissa and Lucius made it perfectly clear that he did too. After the pain had stopped riveting through his body he finally noticed that an empty feeling had settled in his chest. And, no matter his train of thought, the feeling would not leave. He had tried to immediately get up and find the one thing that would made the emptiness go away but, hadn’t been able to move.
Narcissa had told him that even if he had been able to move that he wouldn’t have been able to leave. When asked why by her son she explained that he still needed to practice control in his powers that came with his inheritance. Draco might have understood that but, it didn’t mean that he had to like it. After an hour of sitting in the tub his mother helped him out saying that staying in too long would be bad for his health.
Feeling that his muscles were much more relaxed than before he dried and dressed by himself. But, not before he got a good look at himself in the mirror. His hair that had been chopped of short now fell to the middle of his ears. The angles of his face were sharper and he was much more filled out than before. He was an impressible height of six foot two inches before. But, now he stood another three inches taller in height.
There were also two new tattoos on his body. One going across each hipbone. He traced the tattoos with his slim fingers and sighed contented. Smiling slightly he dressed and walked out into the bedroom where his mother was waiting for him. She helped him lay back down on the bed before lying down next to him and gathered him into her arms. Draco sighed as a bit of the empty feeling left him and fell into a dreamless sleep.
--
A tap on his shoulder almost made Draco jump out of his skin. Calmly he turned only to be met with the sight of two chocolate brown eyes staring back at him. “Dray? I’ve been calling you for like the last ten minutes man. The trains about to leave. The others went ahead and got on the train.” Draco nodded before slinging an arm around the shorter boy and they walked to the train.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry about before.” Draco said as he sat his trunk next to all of the others. Blaise followed suit and they walked onto the train and towards the back compartment.
“So, how’s the summer been?” Blaise questioned as he ran a hand through his near shoulder length wavy hair.
“So, so.” Blaise chuckled at the answer.
“So, the emptiness is still there huh?” Draco just shook his head yes. “Well, do you have an idea about who the person is?” A short no was his answer. “Are they nearby?”
“They’re not on the train. But, we’re getting closer.” Draco said as he stepped up to the last compartment on the train. “They’re probably already at Hogwarts.” Blaise nodded before throwing open the compartment door.
Instantly a bouncing Pansy was in his arms before switching to Draco’s. “Draco, what was that earlier? You were like a zombie or something.” Theo chuckled.
“No, just a Fae lost in his thoughts.” The Nott family like the Malfoy’s had a long line of Fae blood. They were the only two magical creatures in their group. Vincent and Greg chuckled before going back to whatever it was that they were looking at. Millicent who sat in the corner, gave him a small smile before looking back out of the window.
“Sorry, Pans. Like Theo said, got lost in my thoughts.” Pansy nodded in acceptance and sat back down beside Millicent.
“So, how’s the search for your mate going?” Theo questioned as Draco and Blaise sat down in the last two seats.
“They’re at Hogwarts already.” Draco said with a small smirk. “You?”
“Nothing yet. But, they’re on the train. Smells like watermelon.” Theo gave a shark grin. “Almost smells good enough to eat.” Everyone snorted with laughter and through looks at Theo. “What? It’s the truth.” The rest just shook their heads and went on to talk about the rest of their summers laughing all the while.
