A Night Out

Chapter 3: Finding Out

Severus slowly blinked at Albus and then looked down letting his hair fall into his face. He thought about how to answer the questions. What was he going to tell them? How could he explain what had happened when he was not sure himself what had taken place.

Upon seeing that Severus was not going to answer his questions he became concerned that something was wrong. Turning to look at Poppy he asked her “Is there something wrong that with him that you could not find last night”. Having the same concern about the Potion Master as the Headmaster Poppy retrieved her wand and started to perform a number of scans. The scans told her that there was no new injuries and she told the headmaster this.

Thinking that maybe he was lost in thought Poppy gently touched Severus shoulder. “Severus dear can you tell us how you became injured” Poppy asked of him. This startled Severus causing him to jump. Looking at both Poppy and Albus he said “I think that I can, but I do not know where to start.”

Albus trying to be helpful replied “ How about you tell us why you where in the forest.”

Nodding at Albus, Severus said “ It all started about two day ago. I received a owl from a friend that I had not been able to see in some time. She was writing to tell me that she would be in London form a week and wonted to get together. So I sent a owl back saying that I would be free to meet her for lunch and to tell me where she wonted to go.

We ended up meeting at a little café in muggle area. He got to talking about how each of has been, and what we have been doing since the last time we got together.” Here Severus looked at Albus and told him “I lost track of time that was why I did not show up for the meeting. Once I became aware of the time I said my good byes and made my way to the forest.” Looking back down Severus continued. “ When I got to the forest I noticed that it was dark out and later then I first thought. At first things where normal and the trip back was going to be like any other. I was about half way back when I heard a noise behind me. Turning around to see what was there I came face to face with a snarling beast. I took my wand out and cast a stunning spell. Albus what ever that beast was magic had no effect over it. All my spell did was make it mad. Seeing that I had no time to cast another spell I ran. I made it to the edge of the forest when my foot got caught on something and I went down. The last thing that I remember is fangs coming at me.”

Severus having finished his story looked at both Poppy and Albus to see what they here doing.
Albus had a concerned look on his face as he asked “ Are you sure that you do not know what kind of beast that you encountered?” Shacking his head no Severus replied “ I was not able to make out the fetchers due to the darkness.” Sighing Albus looked over to Poppy and saw that she was just as worried about what Severus could have encountered as he was.

Deciding that it was best to change the subject Poppy cleared her throat said “ Severus what ever it was you came across we will find out later. Right now we need to focus on getting you better. The beast did a number on you. I did my best to heal you up, but some things are going to take time to fully heal. It left you with injuries that included a bruised liver, 3 fractured ribs on both sides, dislocated hip, collapse right lung that came from on of your ribs. These I managed to heal with little trouble. It was your right arm that gave me trouble. The beast almost removed it. This caused you to lose a lot of blood before the headmaster could get to you.” She stopped there seeing the look of shock and fear on his face.

Albus was just as shocked as Severus when he heard the list of injuries that the unknown beast had delivered upon him. Seeing that Poppy was not going to say anything else he turned his attention to Severus who at this point was starting to freak out on them.

Albus had a good idea of what his lover was thinking upon hearing about his arm. ‘Was he going to be able to make potions? If he lost the arm what would he do. Would Albus still love him? Would he have to leave what he thought of as his true home? He would not let himself be pitied by others.’ Yes Albus knew him well. Will if the worst came about and Severus did lose the arm Albus thought sadly he would just have to prove to Severus that he would still lover him no matter what and that he would always have a place at Hogwarts.

Indeed Albus did know his lover well for Severus was thinking all of those thing. In fact Severus was so lost in his thoughts that he could not hear Poppy asking him to calm down and let her finish telling him what she had done.

Seeing that she was not going to get a responses form him any time soon she gave a huff and spelled a calming drought right into his system. It had the desired result and within a few mintues Severus was able to let her go on.

“Alright now if you have calmed down CAN I finish telling you about that arm of your or do you just wont to go on not knowing if you will lose it or not.” Poppy said with a smug look on her face.

Albus could not help the slight laugh at the look on Severus face at hearing this. To appease the boy Albus told him “Severus love both Poppy and I have known you since you where eleven. In that time we have gained some knowledge in how you think. So it was easy for us to know what you where thinking form the way you where reacting to the news and by the look on your face. So there is no need to be shocked. And before you saying anything no I did not read you mind.”

“Albus is right Severus, now can I finish.” Poppy stated.

Severus sighed and seeing that they where not going to let him get way with anything right at this moment looked at Poppy and said “Yes you my tell me what is wrong with my arm.” and then looking over at Albus said “ Old man I would not put it past you to have read my mind, but I guess I will take you at your word.”

“ Well now as I was saying the right arm of your gave me some trouble. The wound would not respond to any spell that I cast upon it and potions had very little affect either. But I did manage to use a combination of spells and potions to help slow down the bleeding. Once the bleeding was under control I could focus more on your arm being reattached. I had to put each blood vine , nerve, and mussel back together one by one. Magic is holding them in place for now but I do not know if it will heal all the way to give you full use or not. Only time will tell, so for right now I wont you to not use that arm.

Also due to your other injuries I wont you to stay in the Hospital Wing until I say. There will be no arguing about it. If you wont to get better you will do as told. I will bind you to that bed if I have to.” Poppy finished saying.

Looking putout Severus agreed with Poppy.

Now that she had Severus taken care of she turned her focus on the Headmaster. As sweetly as she could Poppy turned and ask “Albus have you eaten anything or got any sleep?”

Albus gulped and replied no he had not eaten anything and that he did manage to gain a few minutes of sleep.

“ Well I am ordering you both to rest and I do not mean together. Albus you are to go up to your rooms and get a least six hours of sleep. I will drug you if I have to. Then you are to eat a sound meal. Then I might let you back in here to visit.” seeing that Albus was about to argue about her orders she said before he could start “ Severus is stable right now, he is out of danger as far as I can tell. You do not need you were yourself out right now. It will not help him at all. The best thing you can do right now is take care of yourself. If anything happens and you are not here I will have on of the House elves to get you.”

With a relented sigh Albus nodded and left the hospital wing and went to his rooms. It was going to be hard to sleep without his love beside him. As Severus watched Albus leave he thought the same thing. Then he drifted off due to the potion that Poppy gave him and the stress of his healing body.
