Ch 3: Hagrid’s hut
Harry kept listening to his best friends talk but he could tell they still kept an eye on him. He tried to ignore it and pretend he didn’t notice. ‘At least the Slytherins wouldn’t make it so I noticed. There’re sneakier…what the...Where did that come from?’ He mentally shook himself in his musing. ‘It must be the Slytherin side of me.’ His thoughts scared him sometimes.
He went through the usual daily routines and classes but kept getting more and more frustrated. Suddenly he got fed up after first lunch class as they were walking down to Hagrid’s
“Just fucking ask already!” He quickly realized his mistake of jellying to Ron and Hermione. Behind them he could see quite a crowd.
It was practically the whole of seventh year. With the aid of Dumbledore, Hagrid was some days teaching the whole year. It was for special creatures not able to being shown too many times. Hagrid said it was because they where to scared or got easily intimidated. Harry thought it was because they where to bloody dangerous to trust not ripping their limbs of. But he never told Hagrid that.
Hermione and Ron were too chocked by his sudden outburst to say anything at fist. ‘God kill me now! Why is it always me?’ He was drawn from his self pitting by Hermione’s hand on his shoulder.
“What’s wrong Harry?” Hermione’s gentle voice just drew back his annoyance.
“I know you are just bursting to ask me. You have been all day for a fact. I’ve felt it.” He tried keeping his voice down. But it was hard.
“It’s just...You haven’t said what the letter said.” She hesitatingly looked at him.
“Well I don’t have to tell you anything! I don’t have to tell my life’s story to you two. You don’t need to know every bit of my life.” He ended by a shout.
Everyone was standing around to watch the spectacle by now. Even the once in the back could hear everything by now. But Harry was too agitated by now to even notice. His whole focus was on his two nosy best friends.
“Harry where your best friends! We deserve to know what’s going on.” Even Hermione had gotten worked up by now.
“Maybe we should take this another time?” Ron hesitatingly said looking between his two friends. He quickly shut up by the he received.
“Deserve! You don’t deserve ANYTING! Especially YOU!” He pointed to Hermione.
“What do you mean by that?” She demanded.
“I CAN’T TRUST YOU!”
Gasps went through the crowd. Hermione could only gap.
“What…W-why not?” She whispered, hurt.
Harry could see the tears shining in her eyes, ready to spill. But she needed to know she had hurt him to.
“I don’t know if the next thing I tell you and Ron in secret will stay just between us. I told you something in secret that I just wanted YOU and RON, nobody ells, to know. But the first thing you did was to go rattling to Dumbledore. So no! I can’t trust you with this. You have to earn my trust.” He couldn’t look at her any more. He turned around trudging down to Hagrid’s hut.
Hermione stayed a bit away from Harry once they were down by the hut. Ron, having hard knowing where to lean, stayed in-between his both friends in the crowd. Harry didn’t look around to Hermione to see how she coped. He wasn’t sure how he would react if he did and ignored it.
“Well ‘ello every one. Et is going to be a very special lesson today. Ay come along now with yah.”
Harry sighed. This was going to be one of those animals he just knew it.
“Yah just follow me.”
Harry’s interest peaked a bit again when Hagrid lead them away from the forest and continued down the grounds. ‘Maybe it’s not such a bad animal after all.’ His doubts came back a bit when he saw Hagrid walking towards the lake. Two of the animals he encountered there wasn’t so friendly. Merpeople threatening him with spears during the second task and grindylows that tried to drown him.
“Today we are going to see a creature yah all know. But yah ‘avn’t got to know ‘ow special et is.” Hagrid was beaming with joy. He pointed out to the lake. “Yah all know our giant squib. What yah don’t know is ‘e es very special. Squibs of ‘is kind aren’t suppose to be able to live in sweet water. They can only live in the ocean. It es said one wizard who was interested in marine animals liked to experiment on them. ‘e breeds them with each other and magical creatures. Et is said ‘e tried to make a squib with two heads and instead got it with two more arms. ‘e saw it as a failure and trough it in the lake, thinking et kill it.”
Harry and, he could see, the rest of the class was listening idly. Harry was impressed. This was one of the few times Harry had fun and enjoyed care of magical creatures. He walked closer to the lake to see if he could get a glimpse of the squib that he gotten a much more respect for.
“Et lived in ‘armony with the others in there, growing bigger than any of ‘is kind.”
‘He was alone but grew stronger by it.’ Harry mused. Luna’s words last year and now Hagrid’s lecture gave him strength.
Suddenly the water surface was broken by a sweep of a tentacle. Gasps of awe could be heard. Hagrid’s lecture hade definitive changed some opinions.
Harry walked closer still.
“But yah shouldn’t underestimate et. It can feel the surface to know when something es close to the lake. Being experimented on as a youngster made it a bit adverse to wizards but it es getting better. Just don’t walk....”
A shower of water came hurling up the shore and in the air. Harry barely was able to react before the water swallowed him. Harry looked down himself finding his uniform totally drenched. He turned around hearing belly-rolling laughter. Most of the slytherins was clutching their stomachs or rolling around on the ground. Harry felt humiliated.
“I think the squib have a crush on you Potter...It wants’ you to join it swimming.” Malfoy roared with laughter. This made the others laugh even harder.
Harry seethed with rage. He quickly walked back to the castle. Back at entrains doors he could still hear their laughter ringing behind him.

ATN: I know was hard on Hermione but she deserved it. And who would have guessed that Ron would be the voice of reason eh?? Harry needed that last bit even if he doesn't know it.
