AN: I am a moron.
Chapter three
"Hermione?" Harry called out softly as he found his friend reading over a stuffy textbook in the common room.
"Hmm?" was his only reply so far as he tried to get attention. He tried again but with a different approach. "Oh my god! I am so sorry. I just spilled some buttebeer on your books, Hermione!"
"What?!" She shrieked and put the book she was reading away. Her eyes frantically looked around to see the beer-stained book but found none. "You tricked me Harry!" she exclaimed with a hurtful tone.
Harry just smirked at her, leaning towards her. "How else should I have gotten your undivided attention, huh?"
Hermione frowned but she had to agree, "All right, what is it?" She had been in a grumpy mood ever since she had not gotten a perfect score from her latest test.
Harry grinned and wanted to cheer but he refrained from doing that. "I wanted to ask what you know about life debts?"
Now Hermione looked intrigued. "Ooh, and for what purpose?"
"Just asking," he answered, shrugging.
"Well, the usual case is that someone saves someone\'s life and that causes them to have an bond that is called a life debt. Usually these people who have this bond recall it when they are in a situation they could repay it back. Some times someone else can repay the debt instead of someone else if they are close enough or some other way linked to that person. Of course it is understandable that not all life debts are paid back if there is nothing that would demand it. Like for instance someone might save you from drowning when you are on a holiday so you can\'t expect them to be able to repay it back if you will never see them again. There has been several cases were--"
"Ok, ok, I get it," Harry interrupted her as she was getting too excited about the case. "So I have nothing to worry about right? I don\'t have to expect anything back or be saving people\'s lives in the near future?"
"No, as I said some debts are never paid back. You can\'t decide to pay it back unless someone is in real danger and your actions would save him but there is nothing that would bind you to go through with it. Mostly it is a matter of conscience."
"Ok, thanks, Herm\'," he said and left her alone with her studies. He had to wonder why Professor McGonagall had brought the debt up. Would she expect him to treat Malfoy differently now that he was indebt to him? He was utterly confused why she had made a big fuss over it.
--..--..--
Draco was getting bored really quickly. His ribs still hurt and Madam Pomfrey had promised to release him from the hospital wing soon. She had said she would be just checking that everything was fine and then he would be free to go.
Draco sighed as he waited for her to get back. He had to start to come up with a plan to pay the debt back to Potter. It wasn\'t proper for him to have such a thing when his father was who he was. Even though Voldemort was no more his father was still edgy around the Golden Boy.
He sighed again as he thought of Potter. He was saved yet again by the raven haired male. Last time his mother had settled the debt that he had on his account by saving the Saviour from certain doom.
This time he would settle this on his own. He would not be owing anything to the Golden Boy.
AN: Next chapter will be posted tomorrow. And maybe there will be something new in that. O.o Beware of the next chapter. It is a living beast!
