3: The Silver Lining
After Draco’s imprisonment, Harry spent hours, days and weeks looking for some way to set him free. He’d gone to Hermione, the expert in research, but they had turned up nothing. She’d asked why Harry was obsessed in setting Draco free, but Harry could not explain himself. He felt obligated. Draco was Severus’ god-son. Severus had done so much for Harry, albeit in a hidden manner, Harry just wanted to do something for Severus. He remembered the unbreakable vow Severus had made to Narcissa, to protect Draco in any means possible. In Harry’s eyes this is how he could help keep the vow in getting the boy away from Azkaban.
After about six months of research Harry felt he’d exhausted his options and hoped for a silver lining on this cloud. His Auror training had begun and Harry had to put this on the way-side for now until something came up. He promised himself he’d keep track of Draco while he resided in Azkaban. The training was very difficult, and consisted of rounding up Death Eaters, or other severe law breakers. After the fall of Voldemort, the Death Eaters scattered to the seven winds. Many had fled to America, realizing the Ministry of Magic had no jurisdiction there.
Over the following year, Harry’s missions grew at an extreme rate. Soon he was head Auror, taking the most dangerous missions the ministry could hand him. He seemed to have a flare for it. He started to spend more and more time on missions or at his office, fearing his girlfriend, Ginny’s wrath. They had been on the rocks for some time now. Her brother Ron, Harry’s best friend entered Auror training with Harry and went away on many missions together. He and Hermione were married shortly out of school, and now that she’s expecting, Ron’s asked for less missions so he could be with her. Harry was only happy to oblige, hoping that his lacking happiness won’t interfere.
After the end of the war Harry and Ginny had re-kindled the romance they had shared in school. But when he tried to be intimate with her, he found himself lacking. Ashamed of him self, their fire did not take and it slowly dwindled away. It was finally set in stone when she came to his office one morning in the arms of Dean Thomas, asking his permission. Even though his heart shattered, Harry was always the gentleman, and hugged her goodbye. Only when they were gone did he cry.
Harry shook his head roughly; pulling his overlong raven hair loose from the knot at the nape of is neck. The shorter hairs brushed his eyelashes. He tried to focus on the mound of paperwork before him but could not seem to focus. He undid the tie that held his hair and ran his fingers through it stopping at his temples momentarily massaging the dull ache there. An almost inaudible knock sounded at his door. “It’s open.” He called and the thin mousy secretary he’d hired entered his office clutching an official looking envelope.
“Mr. Potter sir, this just arrived for you from the Minister. It says urgent on it.”
“Thanks Charlotte.” he glanced at the watch on his wrist, the one the Weasley’s gave him for his seventeenth birthday. “Woah… It’s really late. Shouldn’t you be at home?” She timidly approached him and gave him the envelope.
“I just wanted to finish some paperwork before tomorrow, sir. I’ll be leaving soon. Should I wait for you, sir?” She returned to the door and awaited his response.
“Please, you can call me Harry or Mr. Potter. Calling me ‘sir’ makes me feel old and stuffy.” he grinned. A flash of humor crossed her thin countenance. “And, to your question; No, you don’t need to wait for me… I will not be leaving for a while yet. I’ll just use the Floo to get home, so go ahead and lock up.” The regulations for the Floo network have loosened since the end of the war. She turned to leave. “Charlotte?” She stopped and turned back to him. “I just wanted to say you’re doing a great job. See you tomorrow.” She nodded and said, “G’night.” quietly and returned to the outer office. He smiled inwardly, despite her timid exterior; she is highly efficient at what she does.
Harry picked up the envelope and examined it. I didn’t seem threatening, but it was quite thick. He picked up the letter opener and slid it beneath the seam, cutting open the top. Extracting the sheaf of papers, he carefully examined each page. It’s a new project the minister wants to begin due to start in the following year. Harry’s heart quickened. This is the silver lining he was looking for. He read the documents thrice more before deciding on an action.
He stood abruptly, his heart hammering in his chest. Snatching his cloak and slipping it on, he grabbed the documents and his briefcase and strode to his fireplace. His excitement bubbled and he tossed in the powder and stepped into the green flames.

Hermione sat humming idly as she worked on the quilt she was making for her unborn child. All the knitting she did for S.P.E.W. back in school had vastly improved her skill and she seemed to have a certain knack for it. Ron came in from the kitchen and walked over to his pregnant wife in the overstuffed chair. She looked positively beautiful, humming to herself and the baby. Her skin seemed to glow and the hormones have somewhat tamed her wild hair into a smooth curl.
“Goodnight love, I have to be up early so I’m off to bed. Try not to stay up too late.” He bent over the side of the chair to place a tender kiss on her lips. Then he bent lower to place another on her rounded belly. “Goodnight my baby.” Hermione chuckled and ran a hand through his fine red hair. He straightened, placed a hand on her shoulder and turned to head up the stairs. She chuckled once more and resumed the knitting.
Moments passed before she noticed that the fire turned green. Only Harry and immediate family could Floo to their home unannounced. Concern marred her beautiful features, as a dusty figure appeared in her fireplace. Harry tumbled unceremoniously out of the grate and dusted himself off. He spotted a startled looking Hermione staring at him. He beamed at her and her features softened. Harry scourgified the mess he mad and turned to greet her.
“’Mione, Gods it’s good to see you. Please don’t get up!” He said when she put aside her knitting. “I just wanted your help with something. Well, you know what I’ve been working on and I may finally have a solution!” Her eyes brightened at the challenge. It has been a while for her to stimulate her intuitive researching skills. Ron has kept her pampered and safe until she has the baby. She has had snits with him about this several times but resigned to letting him have his way, since it is his first baby.
“Help me up, Harry. We’ll go into the kitchen and have some tea while we work.” Harry smiled and held out his hand as she awkwardly stood.

When Harry returned to his office the next day, he snatched up a memo parchment and quickly wrote a note to the secretary for the minister:
I would like to request a meeting with the minister of magic at eight a.m. tomorrow morning concerning the urgent business documents sent to me previously.
Thank You, Harry J. Potter H.A.
He finished the note and gave it a quick tap of his wand and watched it fold up and fly away to the upper levels of the ministry. He smirked, idly thinking of his plans and summoned Charlotte to draw up the appropriate documents he would need. It would take him all night to complete the paperwork. But with that done and his political clout for saving the wizarding world he was certain he’d get his way.
