Blood Traitors
~Chapter Three – Blood-Traitors~
After Isis’s quick departure Sirius couldn’t keep his mind on the game of gobble stones and got pelted with stink soap seven times before giving up. “How can one girl be so damn beautiful and such a pain in the ass at the same time?”
“Got me mate?” James said hitting a stone at Peter who got pelted in the eye by stink soap.
Sirius went into his trunk at the top of the luggage rack and pulled out the last letter from his uncle Alphard. His uncle had quite a bit of gold and had set up an account in Sirius name and left a key. The money was his to do with what ever he wished. Sirius knew that it was more then enough to get him through school, but not enough for a house. So he decided he would scrape and save every bit of gold he could get. That meant no more joke products at Zonko’s. Sirius sighed as he took the letter back to his seat. “James do you think that I could come visit at Christmas this year?” Sirius asked suddenly.
“Sirius you know what my parents said.” James answered seriously. “You’re always welcome at our house. My father couldn’t believe his ears the first time he met you mum.”
The compartment door slid open yet again, but this time a boy just slightly taller then Peter with Sirius’s build and eyes was at the door. “Making plans to get away eh Sirius?”
“I don’t have to answer to you Regulus.” Sirius said putting his letter in the pocket of his robes. “Nor do I have to answer to mum.”
“As far as mum’s concerned you’re a foul beastly prat unless you come to your senses and stop spending your time with this rabble.” Regulus shot a look of disgust at Remus who was still asleep. “Werewolves. Really Sirius, you should be careful of those half-breeds.”
Sirius looked at Regulus. “I don’t see any half-breeds, werewolves, or prats with the exception of you.”
Regulus leaned in close, “Just wait until Lord Voldemort finds you Sirius. He’ll make your life a living hell.”
“So it won’t be that different from coming home. Good to know there are still people of our parent’s character in the world. I’m sure that you’ll have a good time killing in the name of evil.”
Regulus raised his wand. “Say it again ” He cried. “Say it again and I swear I’ll kill you first ”
Sirius raised his wand too. “Expelliamus.” He said. Regulus lost his balance and his wand, which Sirius caught expertly. “You were saying?” Sirius asked when Regulus regained his footing.
“Give my wand you nasty blood-traitor ”
“I’ll give it back when you swear to me that you’ll listen to reason not our parents.” Sirius said holding the wand above his head like a treat.
“Give it to me ” Regulus yelled lunging.
James took the wands from Sirius and tried an enfeeblement jinx, but accidentally hit Sirius.
At some point in all of this Remus had woken up. Despite the fact that he looked waif thin proved he himself to be strong enough to pull Regulus of the now enfeebled Sirius. He put Regulus out in the hallway and threw his wand out after him. Remus brushed his hair from his eyes. “Nice wake-up call.” He mumbled stifling a yawn.
Sirius stumbled trying to get back to his seat. “alille elpere.” He slurred.
“The enfeeblement Jinx.” James said miserably. “Sorry I was trying to hit your brother.”
“Hutsup ameees.” Sirius slurred menacingly.
James cast the anti-jinx. “Sorry mate.”
“It’s alright.” Sirius said massaging a dislocated shoulder.
“You should get that looked at.” Peter said from the corner where he had curled up.
“Why didn’t you help Peter?” Sirius asked with a shaky note of anger in his voice. “I know that you can cast a bloody feather fall or something.”
“I’m sorry Sirius.” Peter whimpered slightly.
“It’s all right. I’m sorry too. I just can’t understand why Regulus buys into all that shit my parents feed him about pure-bloods and muggles.” Sirius sighed. “Oh no. Isis ” He cried softly. What if he hurts Isis?”
“I thought you weren’t interested.” James said with confusion.
“Where is she anyway?” Remus asked with concern.
Everyone shrugged.
“I’m going to look for her.” Remus said getting to his feet.
“I’ll come with you.” Sirius said.
“Me too.” James said smirking. “I might run into Evans.”
Peter stared at the floor moodily. “I’ll stay here by myself and protect the luggage.”
“Have fun.” James called as they walked into the hallway and onto Regulus’s left shoe.
“Now to find Evans.” James said looking around wildly.
“You need another girl mate.” Remus said softly. “You might be considered a stalker if you don’t start leaving her alone.”
“I’m not a stalker. I’m persistent. ‘Sides she likes me.”
“You are diluted.” Sirius said in a chipper voice. “If Evans ever so much as says she wants to watch you play quddich I’ll give up sex.”
“That a promise?” James asked with mock sincerity. “Couse I’ll be honest with you. It’s getting a bit annoying watching you sulk around after your mum hooks you up.”
“Those days are over.” Sirius said looking at a busty blonde sixth year. “I’ll sleep with who ever I like from now on.”
“Better warn McGonagall not to let you transfigure sheep.” James added cheekialy.
Sirius and Remus laughed as they passed a compartment of first years.
“There she is.” Remus said pointing at Isis through the glass pane in the door of a compartment.
“She’s with Lily.” James sighed. “Let’s go in.”
Sirius grabbed the back of James’s robes. “Slow down. Evans is bound to get mad if we just storm in. We have to knock first.” He let go of James and rapped on the door twice. A silence fell inside.
Ilsult came to the door and smiled. “Lily, it’s for you.” She said still smirking.
Lily came to the door. “Potter?” she asked hostilely.
Sirius poked his head in. “Actually we were looking for Isis.”
“Go away Sirius.” Isis said. “I don’t hang out with people who don’t enjoy my company.”
“I do enjoy your company, I just don’t know what you see in Severus.”
Ann chocked back a laugh. “Severus? Are you mad?”
Isis looked put out, “Black I like you, but you have got one hell of an ego. So back off.”
Sirius looked hurt, but since Isis had not actually come to the door she didn’t see it. “Let’s go.” He said sounding defeated. “Let her take on Severus and all the Slytherins by herself.” Sirius slid the door shut and walked down the corridor wishing more then anything that he had reacted better to Severus.
Isis came back to the compartment shortly before the train pulled into Hogsmead station. “I need to change into my robes.” She said by way of an explanation.
“Of course Highness.” Remus said.
“Piss off.” Isis shot grabbing her robes.
“At least I don’t act like all I really need is a good lay.”
“No, just moonstone.” She said leaving and slamming the door in her wake.
“I recon it’s time we changed too.” James said.
Everyone except Sirius, who had already changed, stood up to get in their robes. “Why didn’t I just keep my opinion to myself?” Sirius sighed, “Now I don’t stand a chance.”
“Unless Severus really hurts her.” Peter muttered.
Sirius gave a very canine growl, “He better not ”
James looked exhausted by the endless arguing, but knew that frankly, Sirius’s life sucked. It seemed like a better idea to just be with him through all of it. It made no sense for Sirius to have to fight more then was necessary.
“Why do you pick so many fights Sirius?” Peter asked. “I’ve never seen you so pissy.”
“I have to fight for what I want. I want Isis, but I have to fight Severus for her now. I want to be respected, but I have to fight for it. The muggle borns see me as a pure-blood hellion, and the pure-bloods see as a spineless… well I refuse to say what they call me.”
“Why not try to just earn it?” Peter pressed.
“This is how I earn it.” Sirius said miserably. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his letter. “But the one thing I need, I have no way to fight for.”
