Hermione descended the steps to the dungeon, where she would now be living. She entered the classroom and walked along the tables, hoping to feel something at all. A tiny little memory or remembrance. She felt nothing, as always. That was part of the reason she had taken the job in the first place. She wanted her memory to come back. It was so odd, not having a childhood. She was a gigantic hero, and she didn’t even remember what she had done. She had to reacquaint herself with all of her friends, and she felt so left out when Harry and Ron talked about all the things they had done, or made some reference to something. It wasn’t fair, she should be able to look back fondly, instead she didn’t even know who she was! The Healers had told her it was probably hopeless, and there was nothing she could really do. It wasn’t fair, it wasn’t fair, it wasn’t fair!

Severus just couldn’t get the young witch off of his mind. It was really quite difficult. The fact that she had physically…matured didn’t make her nay different from the annoying girl he despised…or did it? He had to know if she was still that annoying child! Making up his mind, he headed for his old classroom. He entered just in time for a bottle to come hurtling past his left ear and smash into the wall. “I’m sorry,” he said, “Is this a bad time?” “Oh no,” she said, distressed, “Did I almost hit you? I am so sorry, it’s just…” “Don’t worry about it,” he said soothingly, repairing it with his wand, “I understand the feeling. I’ve actually thrown quite a few myself.” “Thanks,” she said coyly, “But you’re just saying that to make me feel better.” “Well is it working?”
“I like what you’ve done with the place,” he said after a pause, “It isn’t quite as gloomy as it was when I was down here. So what do you have tomorrow?”
“Let me think,” she said, “I have…first year double potions with Gryffindor and Slytherin, then—“ Severus cut her off with a laugh, “Oh that is going to be great fun, and you have it first too.” “Why?” she asked nervously, “What is the matter with that…oh wait, Gryffindor and Slytherin are rivals aren't they?” “Rivals, mortal enemies,” he said, “Tomato, tomato*” She rolled her eyes. “Anyway,” she continued, then I have first year Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, second year Ravenclaw, and fourth year Hufflepuff.” “Not a bad day, all considered,” concluded Severus, “What do you have planned?”
“Well,” she began, “I’m going to start with an introduction into the subject of Potions. They need to learn that Potions isn’t about wand waving or magic words, it’s an art, a science. There are so many things you can do, you can make glory, bottle luck, and even stop death…” Snape stared in shock as Hermione practically recited his start of term speech, well all except for the luck part, he would have to remember that… Hermione’s voice brought him back to earth. “…Then I thought I would have them make a simple strengthening potion.”
“Sounds great,” he replied, “I really don’t think you need my help after all.” “Oh don’t think that please don’t think that,” she begged, “I am so completely over my head here. I know that I am eventually going to have some huge break down, and come crawling to you. I’m going to have to be careful not to get on your bad side.” At that, Severus just had to grin. “What is so funny?” she asked. “Nothing, I actually came down here to get a few books that I left.” Well, it was part true, he hadn’t cleaned out his library yet, so what if that had absolutely nothing to do with him coming down her. “Be my guest,” she replied.

Severus went over to a door she hadn’t been able to open. He placed his hand near the top. After a moment, the door swung open, revealing a huge library. She was speechless, this library was like nothing she had ever seen. From what she could see, the shelves were full of very old, very rare, very valuable books, and Hermione felt as though she was dreaming. “So what do you think?” asked Severus. “This is amazing, it’s incredible, it’s unbelievable.” she stammered. “I had a feeling you might like it, these are my treasures,” he said, gingerly picking up a book, “I constantly lose myself inside these walls, it is my sanctuary.” Hearing him speak so passionately about something she was so passionate about, seeing him standing there amid all of these books completely aroused her. Suddenly, she forgot all about the books and the wonders around her, all she wanted was for him to kiss her, to push her against the wall and kiss her until she fainted. She wanted to feel his body pressed up against hers, she wanted to be dominated, and she wanted him.
“Are you okay?” he asked, startling her out of her reverie. “Oh yes, I’m fine, I just remembered there is something I have to …uh…attend to, so I will leave you to it. It was really great to see you again, truly.” “The pleasure is all mine, I assure you. And if you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask.” he said smoothly. “I may just take you up on that.” She smiled shakily, then walked out.
