Chapter 3: New Revelations
As they walked had in hand towards the lake, Harry could see the tension drain from Erin. She smiled as she walked and was looking around sniffing the air. She sat down gratefully, closed her eyes and took another deep breath.
She opened her eyes, looked down at a wilted flower beside her and ran her hand across it. She jumped slightly as she saw it come back to life. She looked at Harry with wide eyes. Harry smiled kindly.
Time had passed and they were lying on their backs gazing at the clouds as Harry was explaining to Erin about the Wizarding world and continued to explain about Voldemort and that he was finally defeated last year by Harry.
Erin couldn’t have been any happier. She was glad that she got to avoid something so evil.
“If Voldemort is dead, then why is it that you had to stay at your Aunt and Uncle’s house for protection?” Erin asked while she pulled her eyes away from the clouds to look at Harry.
“Well, there are many Death Eaters still unaccounted for that may want to take their defeat out on me. I just hope they capture them all so that maybe I can live my life in peace.” Harry said with a sigh as he continued to gaze at the clouds, hating the where the conversation had led.
“Same here!” She said as she sat up quickly. “You fought the battle and won, you’re long overdue for some peace!” Erin said with fervor.
Harry was surprised at how impassioned she was about it. Just then he saw a mermaid come to the surface of the water. It had been a few years since he saw one but he was sure it wasn’t for his sake that the mermaid had come.
The mermaid started to screech as she spoke to them. Erin got up and walked to the edge of the lake. And to Harry’s surprise, Erin started to talk back to the mermaid in the same screeching language that the Merpeople spoke in. They chatted for a while with Harry looking at them in wonder.

“Hello there, my name is Erin Keely.” Erin said with a smile.
“Hello, Erin. My name is Fiona. I was asked to welcome you.”
“Thank you. So is there a Merpeople village nearby?” Erin asked excitedly. “This may seem odd to you, but I never thought that mermaids were real.”
Fiona tilted her head to the side as she thought about what Erin said. “Well, yes our village is nearby and normally humans are not welcomed but you would be. Believe it or not we heard of you and are pleased to know that you have arrived safely.”
Erin was a bit confused but allowed Fiona to say her good byes and walked back to Harry with a smile on her face.

Erin walked back to Harry, “How exciting!” she said.
“What did the mermaid say?” Harry was looking at her with a shocked expression.
“What do you mean, didn’t you hear her yourself.” Erin asked amused.
“Oh I heard, but it was all screeching to me.”
Erin looked at him, confused. “It sounded like English to me. She just welcomed me to Hogwarts.”
Harry started to think about it and decided to try something.
“Erin, how much do you know of your passst?” Harry asked in Parseltongue. And just as he suspected, she responded in kind.
“What do you mean about my passst? All I know isss that I wasss raisssed by my father. My mother died when I wasss young.” Erin responded.
Harry started to laugh. “What’sss ssso funny?” Erin asked.
“You don’t even realize you’re doing it, do you? You apparently can speak many languages such as the language of the Merpeople as well Parseltongue, probably every language of the various creatures of the earth.” Harry said with a quick caress of her cheek, feeling the warmth again. “I think it’s time to see Dumbledore.” Harry responded as he stood up and held out his hand to help her up.
