Albus Dumbledore hated putting anyone in danger, especially somebody he cared for. Right now he was angry at himself, he had put Hermione in danger, again. He was ashamed, all the things he had put her through, she had every right to hate him, ever since her parents were killed……

His thoughts were disturbed by the creak of the door, Hermione walked in, her steps shallow and noiseless as she methodically conjured her favorite chair before plopping down into it heavily and softly smiling up at Dumbledore. Dumbledore noted that her black eye was no longer visible, probably due to a concealment spell.

“Morning headmaster, what a long night!”, she cracked another small smileat him after yawning heavily and a mumbled ‘excuse me’.

“Your mad at me”, he said glumly, not directing his gaze towards her.

“Mad at you?” she said incredulously. “Of course not! How could I… is it because I called you headmaster? Well, you heard Professor Snape last night, ‘it was a blatant disrespect to have called you Dumbledore’.” She chuckled heartily before continuing, “I thought it was a widely known fact in the faculty that you adopted me when my parents were killed, did the professonesonestly expect me to keep calling you headmaster or professor when other students weren’t around? I really don’t know what causes him to think such things sometimes….I mean, I could see if it was around other student or mayb

Slowly, Dumbledore raised his hand to halt her rambling, “Enough Hermione, you know what I meant, surely you must be angered with me for putting you in such a situation.”

Hermione tried, in earnest, to give what she hoped was a reassuring smile before speaking in her best ‘of course not’ tone. “Mad? At you? Dumbledore, of all the people in the world whom I harbor irate feelings towards, for you I certainly hold the least! I haven’t been thoroughly angry at you sinhe Bhe Bertie Botts incident in November! Nothing yesterday was your fault, if anything I twas mine. You really must stop blaming yourself. Besides, I came away with a measly black eye, nothing else. Aren’t you supposed to trust me and believe that I am ok? Honestly I am ok, you know me well enough to know I am telling the truth right now.”

He sighed, he had known she wouldn’t blame things on him, though he elt she should. “I shouldt’ve put you in such danger. The chance shouldn’t have been taken with you.”

‘why is he being so difficult, I willingly and knowingly took the chance.’

“Who else would you have sent? I knew the chance I took, I knew the severity of the situation! I took that chance with my own free will. I know that you wan pro protect me, but you don’t need to always do that, ok? I, for the most part, can take pretty good care of myself. So you don’t have to worry so much, ok?” She exhaled lousdly.

“ I realize you will always worry, but please don’t blame youself. You’re the closest thing I have to family, the last thing I wish for you is added guilt.” She smiled warmly at him, indicating her sincerity.

Dumbledore chuckled softly, “Who has taught you such kindnedd, no, don’t answer that, I already know who.” His eyes sparkled as he looked suspiciously at the door causing Hermione to laugh softly.

“I’ll go make sure Professor Snape doesn’t attempt to destroy the gargoyles, I don’t believe they would react to kindly to that kind of abuse.” She smiled again as she rose from her seat, leaving a bewildered and slightly ad mad man behind her.

The gargoyles stood motionless as Professor Snape named every sweet he knew, not matter what he said the wretched things refused to let him through.

“Damn you to hell you sodding statues! “ he raised his wand ready to try and destroy them when they suddenly they d tod to the side revealing the spiraling staircase and an amused Hermione Granger.

“Professor, I am not sure the gargoyles would take so kindly to being cursed at, it might leave you spending some time in the infirmary, now we don’t want that do we? Have you tried lemon drops?”

Snape stood motionless as his mouth formed a tin straight line, “Yess, Miss.Granger and it appears that they didn’t want to kindly let me through.”

Hermione suppressed a chuckled before adding softly in a very Dumbledore like tone (she was spending much to long with him), “No, I believe you said lemon drop, the password is plural, if you don’t believe me than you can see for yourself.” She smiled at him, not trying to seem impertinent.

“Yes well, if you don’t mind Miss.Granger, I’d like to head upstairs with or without your wonderfully entertaining company, so if you would please start walking.”

Hermione laughed slightly at this, “Nonsense, why walk when we can azy?azy? Now watch that step, it’s exceeding slippery, whether or not there’s anything on it.” She smiled before a wave of her and some jokingly orders to the stairs and they were off, revolving and revolving until they reached the hallways that lead to Dumbledore’s office. As they stepped in Snape bowed towards Dumbledore and Hermione.
ForgForgive me, I forgot my manners earlier, the headmaster’s daughter, however non-related she may be by blood, deserves the utmost respect.”

“Nonsense Professor, I am Hermione Granger, simply. You have addressed me the in the same manner for years, it is nonsense for you to change now, besiudes, I despise being given special treatment, well ok, having the castle listen to me is kind of cool.” She smiled and he looked at her coolly.

“ I also apologize, last night I may have forgotten for a moment, your relationship with the headmaster, it was my wrong.” He bowed his head, conveying the guilt he felt before Hermione waved her hand in the air again.

“Professor, there was no need to apologize, really, we all forget sometimes, evomebomebody as intelligent as yourself.” She smiled at him before Dumbledor spoke up.

“What brings you here Severus, my boy?” Dumbledore looked quickly between the two, for people who claimed to loathe the other, Severus was sure being civil and Hermione was openly being relaxed and friendly with him, was it possible? No, not so….

Snape hunkered down into the chair that Hermione had been previously sitting in before speaking in almost a humorous tone, “Well, it’s a funny thing.”

Yes, it’s short, no, I didn’t have time for anything else! To answer some questions, now I think you know why she was so casual towards him! YES, I am doing this part backwards almost, no, I will not be revealing who the mystery couple is anytime soon, I’ll leave you guessing. Yes, I will make Herm and Sev suffer for awhile. Hehe, I know this is sort of out of character, but oh well. I know it’s short, but I hope you like!
Thanks for the reviews, it's a high point of my day to read them!!
