Awakening

Sorry it\'s been so long guys! but here it is as promised!
Chapter 28- Awakening
Severus sat in a chair in the corner of the hospital wing, near Alex’s bed. Sitting in the shadows, not in view of anyone in case they walked in. It would seem odd to see the Potions Master standing vigil by a Ravenclaw’s side. He would wait there until she awoke. He wouldn’t be able to do anything until he knew she was ok. He was the one responsible for the condition she was in. Therefore it was his duty to watch after her. It had nothing to do with the fact that he was in love with her. None at all… Who was he kidding? He couldn’t eat anything, couldn’t stay in one place for more than a second, nervously waiting for when she would awake. He had to be near her, watching her, until her eyes opened. Then he could apologize, and tell her what a fool he’d been. Maybe then she’d take him back. If she didn’t… well he didn’t know what he’d do. But he did know that he couldn’t go another moment without telling her how wrong he’d been, and how much he did in fact love her. What a sap he was turning into, prepared to beg for the affections of a woman. His father would laugh at him. But she was what he needed, and he was prepared to do anything to get her back.
The hospital doors opened and in walked no other than Kevin Drega. Severus frowned. He had almost forgotten about him. Severus clenched his teeth as he watched him stroke Alex’s face and kissed her forehead. A repeat of what he had just done if only an hour ago. Mr. Drega didn’t know he was there, and he was content on keeping that way. He averted his gaze so he wouldn’t have to watch the sickening display. Mr. Drega was allowed to touch her in public, in full view of everyone. He hated that he could not. Yet, anyway. She would be his once he told her how he felt, and in two months she would be graduated, and they could take their relationship public soon after. He was sure of it. This boy would be out of the picture. He heard the bed sheets rustle and and a slight moan, he brought himself to look up again. Alex was stirring. His breath caught in his throat. Of all the bloody times to wake up, she had to stir when he was here. Her eyes fluttered open, and smiled when she looked up at her company. Damnit! He should be the one she was smiling up at!

Alex felt herself being pulled upward through the darkness. Someone needed her. That someone was Severus. She could feel him breaking. She needed to fix things. She struggled to open her eyes. The light hurt her head for a second and she moaned. She felt a presence beside her. But looking up, realized it wasn’t him. But it was still someone safe; someone who wouldn’t hurt her.
“Good afternoon my sleeping beauty, my love.”
“Kevin!-“
“Shhhh, don’t try to get up, you’ve been through a rough event.” He soothed her.
“I thought…I didn’t think I’d see you again.” She whispered.
“It’s ok, you’re safe now. I’m here.”
She cried into his arms. She wanted to be comforted by someone else. But knew he would never hold her this way. She wept for what she had lost in the dungeons, and wept for someone who would never have her.

Severus wanted to vomit. If she was safe, it was because he was here, not this whip of a boy. He watched as a flood of emotions swept through her face and she began to sob. Kevin wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his embrace, rocking and crooning at her. Severus couldn’t watch anymore. That was supposed to be him! He didn’t want to see someone else comforting Alex. A jealous rage overtook him. He had to leave before he did something he’d regret later. Rising and making his way towards the unknowing couple, he stopped at the foot of the bed.
Clearing his throat he said, “I see you are awake, Miss Owens.” The startled pair broke apart quickly. Alex’s face paled even more so. “I will fetch Madam Pomfrey then.” He turned and swept away.
“S-Sir?”
He turned and looked at her.
“Thank you.”
He jerked his head once in acknowledgement, and left to find the medi-witch.
