For my own reasons
Another chapter for you and the beginning of some drama that I am sure you are going to like. Thank you for your reviews even if I do not reply to you, it means the world to me.
Madamedragon: Cuty face does not work with me Missy! Get your ass on the chair and start reading!
27. For my own reasons
“Here, let me give you a hand,” Hermione said and reached to hand him his glass.
Again.
His best friends were here only about ten minutes and were already pissing him off big time. They constantly offered to do things for him that even if it took some effort, he could do on his own.
Still he forced a smile on his face as he took a sip from his water. Hermione and Ron were the only people except Dumbledore and Snape that Harry wanted to see.
His ego was hurt enough, he did not need people like Shaklebolt to tell him how much of a hero he was. Great, a hero that could not shave alone.
“So, have you thought about where you want to live?” Ron asked biting into the cheese cake Mrs Weasley had given her son to take to Harry.
Harry shrugged but Ron either did not pick up on his bad mood or ignored it.
“Well, you could stay with me and Hermione but we are both working the whole day, so you would be alone. We took our NEWTs last summer and now I am in auror training and Hermione started to attend university. But hey why don't you stay at the burrow for a while? Mum would love to take care of you.”
'Yeah, and reminding him every day that he was a physical wreck.'
He shrugged again and now Ron and Hermione shared a look that irked Harry more. The way everybody behaved was as if he was fragile and would break. And volatile.
He knew he was not good company but already he wished for them to leave so that he could be alone again.
With Snape.
That was another thing unsolved. While Snape was with him most of the time and hugged and kissed Harry, he did it like a brother. Harry knew from Dumbledore that Snape had been here all the time during the last sixteen months, refusing to leave his side or to give up.
Guilt, very likely.
'I bet he looks at me and all he sees is what I have become.'
But he was scared of bringing up the topic because despite everything Snape was the only person he could stand and he was terrified of being alone.
Hermione wanted to say something when the door opened and Snape walked in, having used the opportunity to take a shower and shave.
He picked up Harry's rotten mood immediately and walked over to the bed.
“I think we should let the visit come to an end by now, Harry easily tires.”
Hermione and Ron jumped up a little too quickly, gave Harry a hug and left promising to visit again. When the door closed Harry flopped down into the bed, pinching his eyes shut.
“You saved their day,” Harry said cynically.
Snape did not answer but he did that a lot and so Harry mostly talked to himself or at least no one in particular.
“I am rotten company today.”
Snape poured himself a glass of water but kept his black eyes on Harry, not revealing any of his emotions.
“And why is that?”
Harry snorted. “Look at me Snape! I can't fucking walk on my own and barely manage to shave. I am so tired of everything.” Harry kicked the teddy his friends had given him off the bed. “Sometimes I wish that box had simply fired a normal killing curse at me. Then at least I would not be stuck in this hospital room and waste my life away.”
“It takes time Harry, the mediwizards told you that. You will be able to do a lot of things on your own but you need to be patient.”
“If I am not mistaken Dr Dribble said I probably could do some things one day.”
Snape placed his now empty glass on the night table.
“Now you are being negative,” he answered keeping his tone light.
Turning onto his side Harry closed his eyes.
“Why are you still here?” he asked muffled by his pillow. “You have a life to live somewhere out there. Dumbledore told me you have bought a potion lab to brew you own potions and sell them. It's bad enough that one of us cannot live his life.”
Snape sighed. “We had that so many times already Harry, I am here and I am staying here but if you want me to leave, you just have to say so and I go.”
'Just say yes and give him his life back,' Harry thought.
Instead he shook his head and pulled the blanket under his chin. He was even too weak to do that.
Snape stared at him for a while like he had done a lot during the last four weeks.
“With that potion lab in the basement came a little house in Diagon Alley, big enough for two people to share it.”
Opening his eyes Harry could only stare at the elder wizard.
“You want to share a house with me? I am horrible- I complain all the time and am not good company the rest of it.”
Now a grin tugged on Snape's mouth.
“I would say we are much alike, you and me.”
Harry shook his head seriously. “No, you've been nothing but patient and kind.”
“I told you before Harry that I am here for my own reasons and you are not obligated to behave a certain way or do something just because you think I sacrifice myself.”
'What reasons?' That thought was always unspoken but Harry was afraid of the answer and so he kept silent.
He stared at the wall trying to find the strength to decline but he had nightmares about being alone and hated it when nobody was around.
“I have a suggestion,” Snape easily said. “They are releasing you from hospital tomorrow, so we go to my little house, you see if you like it there and we proceed from there.”
Mutely Harry nodded and felt horrible but if Snape picked up on it, he did not mention it.
“So, are you up for a game of wizard's chess?” Snape asked as he enlarged the board from inside Harry's night table.
Harry groaned. “I lose spectacular every time.”
“You got better though.”
“Really?”
“No.”
