Chapter Twenty-seven
Molly and Arthur Weasley stood looking about the extravagant sitting room with a sense of awe and a bit of trepidation. It had been Lucius’s idea to invite the couple to the wedding’s celebratory dinner. He had sent out the invitation without letting Hermione know. She had been nervous enough as it was about having to speak to Molly. He didn’t want to stress Hermione further by her over thinking the situation.
“Mr. Weasley!” Harry said, going over to him, shaking his hand heartily. He went straight over to Mrs. Weasley hugging her. “It’s good to see you both.”
“What is going on?” Molly demanded. “It’s not everyday that Lucius Malfoy invites the like of us here for supper.”
“It’s a very long story,” he muttered, looking to Arthur. “And we do ask for some patience.”
“We?” Arthur asked, his eyes narrowing.
“Greetings Mr. and Mrs. Weasley,” Lucius stated, as he joined them. “Hermione needed a nap. She will be joining us later.” He looked over to the patriarch of the Weasley clan. “Please make yourself comfortable…”
“What is Hermione doing here at all?” Molly demanded. “And you, Harry, aren’t you both supposed to be in school with Ron and Ginny?”
“Hermione took her NEWTs at the beginning of the year,” Harry explained to them. “She started training here with Mr. Malfoy when something remarkable happened—Her magical inheritance came to fruition.”
“What?” Arthur muttered. “That’s impossible.”
“It’s far more possible than you know,” Severus said as he entered the room. “Molly, Arthur.”
“Severus, what is going on here? What possessed you to ship the girl off to be trained by the likes of him?” Molly shrilled at the headmaster.
“Hermione needed to be trained by someone who could control her powers, if Merlin forbid, she couldn’t,” he snapped at her. “It turned out for the best.”
“How could that be?” she demanded. “Ron and she will never get together at this rate.”
“And they never will,” Lucius said in a cutting voice.
“Calm yourself,” Severus murmured soothingly. “She doesn’t know.”
“Know? Know what exactly?” Arthur asked, looking around to the all three of the men speaking to he and his wife.
“Are you aware that Mr. Malfoy has veela blood?” Harry asked them cautiously.
They said nothing as their eyes went wide.
“She is my mate,” Lucius said tightly. “I’ve known since the Battle of Hogwarts that girl was mine, which is the reason I divorced my wife shortly thereafter. I was struggling to figure out a way to tell her when she was brought here for me to train. And no, I did not abuse the woman in any way, shape, or form to convince her to be with me.”
“Ron and she loved each other!” Molly cried.
“No, Molly,” came Hermione’s gentle voice as she walked into the room. “I didn’t love him, not the way I should have if I was to marry him.” She walked over to Molly. “And I doubt Ron could feel anything a mature man should feel towards any woman unless he takes what muggles fondly refer to as a grown up pill.”
“How can you say that? He adored you!”
“No, he doesn’t,” she repeated. “Not that it matters. It’s a moot issue now that Lucius and I are married. But that isn’t the primary reason that my groom snuck you in here behind my back.” Hermione looked over to Lucius, who was smirking quietly as he watched her at work.
Molly and Arthur’s jaws dropped at her words, but neither said a thing as she went on.
“Do you know this woman?” she asked, handing them the picture of her mother. “Please. It’s important that you tell me the truth.”
“Why?” Molly muttered tightly. “It’s clear that you’ve turned your back on people…”
“This is my mother,” Hermione cut her off hoarsely. “My parents adopted me from her. Her name was…”
“Ursula Black,” Arthur interrupted quietly. “She was the sweetest girl. Her family abandoned her when it was found out that she was a squib. But she wasn’t in any shape to take care of herself in the outside world. No one bothered to teach her anything of practicality in the wizarding world let alone the muggle one. There were those of us who tried to help, but before we knew it the war had started.” He sighed, looking towards Molly. “Your brother Fabian took her in, little more than a boy himself at the time.”
“She was a child?” Molly whispered sounding upset.
“Remember that war lasted years, Molly. They lived together, but separately. It wasn’t until She turned seventeen anything happened. He assured me of that. But then your brothers were killed and she vanished.” Arthur
looked over to Hermione. “She has her mother’s eyes.” He looked to his wife. “And your brother’s wit.”
Molly’s eyes went wide, looking back over to Hermione. “You-you have the shape of his face. Why didn’t I see this before, Arthur?” But just as she was going to dissolve into tears, she spun on Hermione and exclaimed, “You have a magical inheritance?”
She nodded.
“Are you…are you a guardian?”
“I do believe so,” Hermione replied.
“Merlin preserve us! You are the first in two generations!” Molly wrapped her arms around the younger witch. “I always knew you would be a part of our family.” Pulling back she smiled at Hermione through her tears. “Though I must say this wasn’t the way I thought it would be.”
“That makes two of us,” she murmured. “Molly, I know you don’t care for Lucius, but he is my husband. I’m not asking for friendship between you, but for my sake and the sake of our children, could you please try to get along?”
“Children?” she breathed.
She took Molly’s hand and pressed it to her womb. “Yes, twins.”
A small smile formed on the woman’s face. “Babies are a blessing.” She kissed Hermione’s temple. “Have you been eating enough?”
“Yes, Molly.”
“And resting?”
“Sleeping every chance I get,” she replied. “Uh, but I do have some questions and they are rather personal. And those pregnancy books don’t have all the answers.”
“Come along, Hermione dear,” Molly murmured, putting her arm around the younger witches shoulders. “Let me be the first one to tell you that those books know nothing about witches! They’re clearly written by wizards who must never have had a wife!”
Lucius looked over to Arthur. “Fire whiskey?”
“That would be lovely,” he murmured, looking over to Harry. “So are you and Ginny still dating?”
Blushing Harry said, “About that…”

Hi! It's time once again for the review sing-a-long! Yesterday's selection was a tough one. Tough, not due to the fact that no one knows the song, but because of the fact that no one appears to know the proper title of the song. Our song yesterday was the title song from the movie and the musical "Beauty and the Beast" which if you don't know is called, "Beauty and the Beast". It is not named a "Tale as old as time" That's just a line from it. People who guessed that, sorry, but you got it wrong. This was performed for the movie my Angela Lansbury and the sound track to the movie by Celine Dion. Cookies go out to MB3, Diamond-Helen, smurphy, Voracious Reader, Mia, Kimbclar, happybunny, morgana, and Pegg (lovely save there, Pegg!). Chocolate chips go out to Laur, Raine, and Jade for knowing the song, but not the performer(s). And colored sprinkles go out to SlytherinPrincess for knowing the performer(s) but not the song title. If I missed anyone, I'm sorry.
Okay, time for our next review sing-a-long song! "I want to review, but it comes out wrong/I want to live, but I don't belong" I don't own this song either, but I love it just the same. Though truth be told I would love it more if I would make money from it. Who wouldn't like money this day and age? Anyway, thanks much and keep on keeping on! Have a cool day!
