 Chapter 27. Accusations
Sasha woke up still in the closet. She was cold and stiff after being cramped in there for so long. She crawled out, and made her way over to the heavy drapes that covered the windows, pulling them wide. Dawn was breaking and the early light was just starting to pour in. She placed her hand on the window in front of her, and was shocked to see a few long, white hairs were knotted between her fingers. The sight of these strands was enough to confirm to her that what happened yesterday was not a dream, but was reality.

Numbly, she reached over with her other hand and pulled them off, one by one. She gathered these up and knotted them, unsure of what to do with the tiny bundle. This is too important a lesson to throw away Sasha, she thought to herself. She went over to her chest, opened it, and removed her lab notebook. She carefully placed them inside; a reminder of this terrible day. She replaced the book, closed the lid of the chest and rested her hands and head on top of it.

She had learned her lesson. She would never naively trust anyone ever again. Especially someone who once pledged his allegiance to the Dark Lord, she thought. No matter how much she would have wanted it otherwise, she knew there was no way someone could change their very nature. If Snape had once followed the Dark Lord, then no matter what he said or did, she knew she could never trust him again. If she ever needed a reminder of this, she could always come back and pick up the strands of Lucius’s hair, and she would be reminded of his treachery.

She sighed, and stood. She needed a shower, and then she had to go down and face Snape. As much as she wanted to never see him again, she still had to talk with him. And she had to finish her potion. She was not too sure if it was really worth it at this point. It is ironic, she thought, that he would be the one to help me make this fading potion when, indirectly, he was responsible for it in the first place. Grimly, she set off for the washroom.

**

Snape was more than exhausted. He had been up all night working on the two potions for the Dark Revel, plus monitoring Sasha’s. But more than that, he had been thinking. He had no idea if she would return here or not today. It was past 6 am, the time her shift was about to start, and he needed to sleep. In many ways, he did not expect to see her in his lab ever again.

Snape was just standing up from the table getting ready to head off for an hour of sleep when he saw her enter the lab. She walked in and just stood there in the doorway, not saying a word. They looked at each other for the longest time. The silence weighed heavily in the void between them. What did you say to someone when the world as you once knew it had just come to an end?

Snape sensed her cold distance from him, and was not surprised. She walked over to her potion and took a look at the viscous fluid. She looked back up at him.

"I am sorry for missing the remainder of my shift last night," she began quietly, coldly. "For obvious reasons," she finished. She was not smiling.

Snape just watched her, and then nodded. She continued.

"I will take the next 10 hours, as it looks like you could use some sleep." Snape noted that she said this in a very objective, removed tone, lacking the warmth and caring she usually shared with him.

God it hurt him to see her like that. He wanted her back the way she was before. He had to try to talk to her.

"Sasha," he began, reaching out his hand for her. She immediately backed up in a desperate attempt to avoid his touch.

"Snape, no," she said quickly, her heart beating quickly. "Not now. It’s too soon," she said honestly. Her head was still turned away from him, and she could not meet his eyes. Ironically, he had a full view of the long scar along her face. It stared accusingly up at him.

He dropped his hand. So be it.

"All right Sasha. But at some point we do have to talk. I will see you in 10 hours. I will be in my chambers if you need me."

As Snape slowly walked out of the room, Sasha kept her head turned away from him. He continued into his private bedroom and closed the door. He lay down on the bed, fully clothed, and held back the tears that threatened to surface. Eventually, he fell asleep.
