Chapter Twenty-four

Thank you all for taking time out of your busy day to read and review my story. I may not respond often, but I am paying attention!

margaritama-It was Hermione that walked in naked. She even pointed out her own nudity to the other witch. Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough.

Chapter Twenty-four

Lucius walked into the sitting room, stopping dead in his tracks at the sight of Hermione holding her stomach as she stared out to the back garden. He went over, sitting down next to her. His hand slid over her belly, rubbing it in circles.

“Well?” he asked quietly.

“I’m pregnant,” she breathed.

“We were expecting that,” he pointed out to her.

“With twins.”

Lucius went still as she looked over to him. “Two?” he asked. “At one time?”

“That would be twins,” she said her voice tight with emotions. “I thought it was a joke at first, but that was before I found out Madam Peachtree didn’t have a sense of humor.”

“Two?” he repeated. “Two babies? In here?” His hand went a little tighter. “At one time?”

“Once again I must point out that would be twins,” she murmured, her hand covering his as she rested her head on his shoulder. “I hope they end up with your teeth and hair.”

He snorted. “Of course they are! They are Malfoys…” But he stopped speaking and looked into her eyes. “They will be, as will you.”

“Is that an order, Lord Malfoy?” she asked quietly.

“Most definitely.”

Smiling she said, “Well, if you insist.”

Just then Luna rushed into the room, a large tome in her hands and looking quite upset.

“I think I found something…”

“I’m pregnant!” Hermione announced.

“That’s wonderful news,” Luna said, but rushed on with, “I found a master list of families and the powers that tended to stay within those family lines.”

“With twins!” Hermione added.

Luna took a breath and let it out, looking to her. “Twins? As in two babies at once?”

“I have it on Hermione’s authority that is fairly common when one says its twins,” Lucius replied.

“Twins run in families as well,” Luna said, going over to the nearest table and setting down the large book. “And are fairly rare within the pureblood magical community. So if you combine your inheritance along with the fact that you are carrying twins…” Her index finger hit the page. “I got it!” She looked up to the couple, who were waiting impatiently for her to tell them. “It’s…”

Harry rushed into the room via the floo tugging Ginny behind him with what could only be called a vice like grip on her arm. He pushed her towards the others and pointed at her, too upset to speak.

“She’s the one that’s been stealing your letters to me!” he exclaimed when he finally did talk.

“That makes sense,” Luna murmured, knowing no one was listening to her but spoke anyway.

“Why?” Hermione asked, looking at the girl she thought of as a friend.

Ginny clenched her jaw tightly as a rebellious look came onto her face.

“It’s your powers,” Luna murmured. And that’s when everyone there turned to look to Luna. “She’s jealous to her back teeth of what you have.”

“I am not!” Ginny exclaimed.

“Perhaps not so much of this…” Luna said waving her hand around at everything about them. “But you are envious of her inheritance, an inheritance that never came to you, isn’t that right?”

“What?” But then it came to Hermione. “It was the Weasleys?”

“Close,” Luna said lightly. “The Prewetts.”

“That’s impossible!” Ginny declared.

“On the contrary, it’s very possible,” Luna said, looking over to Hermione. “The powers you were gifted with ran very heavily within the Prewetts for generations. Telekinetic powers, teleportation, tactile cognition, and shielding were what they were primarily known for outside of being one of the few families that had more than a few sets of twins.”

“My mother couldn’t have…”

“You’re forgetting your uncles, Ginny,” Hermione said quietly. “Both were young men when they died during the first war. Either one of them could have fathered a child without even knowing it before they were killed.”

“Did you know that the guardian powers supposedly ended with my mother’s generation? She couldn’t stop mourning the loss of them. There wasn’t a day I didn’t hear about it!” The redhead stood glaring at Hermione, her hands clenching and unclenching. “I should have been the one. I was the one born on the right side of the blanket! I should have been the one with all the powers!”

“Why steal the letters?” Harry asked, sounding hurt.

“I wanted to see what you two had to say about what was going on here,” she sneered bitterly. “There would be the added bonus of splitting you up as well.”

Hermione went over to Harry, slipping her arm around his waist. “She doesn’t know us all that well, does she?”

Harry’s arm went about her shoulders. “Not a bit.”

Ginny let out a scream and was on the verge of attacking her when Lucius clamped a hand on her shoulder, yanking her back. He lowered his head so that his mouth was but inches from her ear as he snarled, “Do not even think of doing harm to the mother of my children.”

Harry looked to Hermione in shock. “I’m going to be an uncle?”

She nodded. “It gets better. I’m carrying twins.”

“Twins?” Laughing he hugged her. “That’s wonderful!” He looked over to Lucius. “I assume you’ll be marrying her.”

“You assume correctly,” he answered.

Hermione walked over to Ginny, who was avoiding eye contact. “Was it all some sort of game? Were you ever my friend?”

Crossing her arms over her chest, Ginny muttered, “Does it matter?”

Hermione grabbed her by her arms and shook her, until the girl was looking at her. “Do you think I asked for this?” She let Ginny go. “You are a good person. I’ve always thought so, but you can be petty. And in many ways so much worse than Ron.”

The youngest Weasley looked insulted at her words. “Well, at least I’m not a bastard.”

Hermione laughed bitterly. “When it comes down to it, your brother has never been a spoiled little brat expecting everything he ever wanted to be handed to him on a silver platter.”

“If she’s the one stealing your letters, does this mean she is also the one attacking the students, cat familiars, and house elves?” Luna asked, looking towards the girl that she had at one time thought of as a friend.

“I never attacked anyone!” Ginny exclaimed.

“How do we know you’re telling us the truth?” Harry demanded.

“She’s telling the truth,” Hermione answered this time, walking over to a chair and sitting down. “Ginny may have been robbing the letters, but she had no hand in the attacks. I read her mind.” She laughed then. “Harry, she thought we were lovers!”

Harry started laughing.

Ginny’s face went crimson. “Why is that funny? You were writing each other constantly and Harry kept leaving and meeting someone at Hogsmead every weekend!”

“It wasn’t me,” Hermione said casually. “I was too busy with training for the first two months to leave. So I invited Harry here several times, but oddly enough he never received his post.” She looked over to the boy she thought of as a brother. “She burned all of them after reading them, by the way.”

“Then who were you meeting?” Ginny demanded.

“Me.” Draco came walking into the room, going straight over to Harry and kissing him fully on the mouth.

Everyone turned at the sound of a loud resounding crash. Ginny had crumpled to the floor in a dead faint.

It's time for the review sing-a-long! Yesterday's answer was "Crystal" by New Order. The snicker doodle cookies go out to margaritama, who although she didn't get the name of the song, she got the enormous hint I dropped and researched her own CD library to try to find the answer. Now that's dedication! Thanks for playing and if I missed you, I'm sorry.

It's time for our next review sing-a-long song! As usual, I don't own this song either. "I wonder if I review your story, would you still be in love, baby? In love, baby" There you go! I'm guessing you want a hint, huh? Okay, just a small one, because anything more would be Taboo. So are you catching what I'm throwing? Give it a shot! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
