Chapter 24
J.K. owns all the Harry Potter characters
Harry and Draco were sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast and making plans for the next couple of days.
"I think I'm going to visit Ginny at the Burrow for a couple of days, or at least until Hermione gets back," Draco said, while finishing up some hot cereal.
"Yeah, I think I'll go get Lavender, and bring her back here for those couple of days. Ron is probably driving her crazy, wondering when Hermione is coming back," Harry answered while putting his dishes into the sink
Draco was right behind Harry with his dishes. When he put them down, he looked at Harry and asked, "Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you were seeing Ginny?"
Harry thought for a minute, then responded "Sometimes, but I already know what life is like with her around all the time. I never imagined her as a girlfriend, she was more like a sister. If she were my girlfriend, I would have to kick your ass all the time for messing with her." Harry sniggered at the last part.
"True. I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off of her. I just needed to ask, because I knew she liked you in school and I didn't know how you felt. "
"Do you think you're in love?" asked Harry
"I don't know. I've always had this dream about her, until we got together. I think that's why I'm going to her house, so I can figure out if I'm in love or not."
"Just promise me one thing. If you find you are not, don't beat around the bush, it would hurt her more. Just come out and tell her, because if you lead her on, I swear as a brother, I will kick your ass before Ron gets a chance."
"In that case I promise I won't break her beautiful heart," Draco said with a sappy smile.
"Oh my gods, Draco, I think you are in love!" Harry said with a sparkle in his green eyes.
"You know what, I really think you might be right."
"Well you have fun, and remember my warning."
"I will. I think I'll go take a shower, then get ready to go. You have fun, and don't do anything I'm going to be doing."
Harry threw a dish towel at him as Draco was leaving the kitchen.
Ginny was fixing supper for her and Draco, as the rest of the Weasley clan decided to visit a nice restaurant in Diagon Alley, compliments of Draco. She had just finished putting the plates of food on the table when Draco popped in. Ginny didn't notice the man standing in the doorway as she poured the wine.
"Smells good. You'll make someone a fine wife. Of course if you were to marry me, we would have house elves," Draco said with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Draco Malfoy!" Ginny said, a small smile on her lips, while holding her hands on her hips, "Is that a marriage proposal?"
Draco just smirked and raised one eyebrow as he sat. Blushing and slightly frustrated that he hadn‘t confirmed or denied the proposal, Ginny finished setting up the table and pouring the wine, then sat.
During the meal, Ginny said she would marry Draco, if he was asking, but she had to get something off her mind, first.
Draco looked at Ginny with a confused, concerned look, then said, "Ginny you can tell me anything. You know, Harry and I were talking earlier -- he acts like one of your big brothers."
"Yes, I know. It's really annoying," Ginny said with a sad smile.
"Well, anyway, I told him I was coming over for dinner and he asked me to make sure about my feelings for you, else he would kick my ass should I lead you on."
"What are your feelings towards me...exactly?" Ginny asked hesitantly, not sure she wanted to know the answer.
"Ginny, I want you to be my wife. After graduation of course."
Ginny went quiet. She sipped her wine, and only took little bites of her food. Draco knew something was on her mind.
"Tell me what you're thinking, please." Draco put two fingers under her chin, to turn her head, to face him. She had tears falling down her cheeks.
"Ginny…?" Draco started, trying to dry the waterfall. "What is so terrible that you’re crying?"
Ginny didn't know what to say. He had concern in his eyes, she could tell that he loved her. She didn't want to tell him about Professor Taylor, but if they were going to take the next step, she needed to be truthful to him. " Draco, let’s take a walk, I need some air."
Draco stood up and pulled her chair out for her. He took her hand and led her to the door. As they walked to the small pond, Draco couldn't help but feel like she was going to tell him something real awful. It was then he thought about Lavender’s birthday. He needed to tell Ginny, but then he thought about not breaking her heart.
The silence was killing him. They sat on the shore of the pond and he knew that he had to know what was tearing her up inside. "Ginny, please tell me what is wrong. I promise we can work it out, whatever it is. "
By then the tears were dried up, and her eyes were red and puffy.
She thought, might as well just say it. " Draco..." she paused to catch her breath and her nerve. "Promise me you will hear me out, and let me finish before you say anything, or I might not be able to say this." She was looking into his gray eyes.
"I promise. I just want to know what is troubling your pretty little head."
She turned her head toward the pond. She feared that if she looked at Draco, she wouldn't be able to say it. So, as she focused on the water, she started talking.
"Our relationship means so much to me, and I feel like I could marry you, I now know you feel the same about me." She looked over at Draco and saw confusion on his handsome features. "The first time we made love, I knew I would be yours. Before the photo session, I was always dreaming of a secret lover. I would never get to find out who he was, until the day Hermione came to see me about doing the shoot. That night I had another dream. I found that it was you behind the curtains of my bed."
Draco smiled at the thought of him being her dream lover. Draco reached out for her hands as she continued her story.
"When I got back to school, I had one more night of detention with Professor Taylor." Ginny looked at Draco, "I didn't know you two were related, at that time. He had me doing the most awful things. I really hated him, until..." Ginny paused, looking back toward the pond as the tears began trailing down her cheeks again. "You have to understand, I didn't know we were going to get this serious..." Ginny got up to walk away from Draco, she didn't want to see his face.
"Professor Taylor came up to me and asked what I did over the weekend, and as I was telling him. He started doing things that felt rather...um...ah pleasurable."
Ginny put her hands up to her face. She started sobbing harder. Draco knew this was getting harder for her, but he promised he would listen, so although he knew where this was going, he let her finish, he had to. This was going to make the relationship stronger.
"I couldn't resist him,” she continued. “He looked so much like you, I was turned on by that fact. I thought maybe you two were related, and that got me hotter. Oh gods, Draco, I fucked your cousin! I acted like some common slag!" She turned to face him, her face was as red as her hair.
Draco formed his features blank. He didn't look angry, but he didn't look understanding either, he just stared at her. Ginny went to him, looked him in the eyes, "Draco I'm so sorry, it only happened once, it won't happen again! Please forgive me!"
Draco knew he should have told Ginny that he didn't blame her, and that he loved her, but he couldn't do it. The only thing he felt like doing was seriously injuring a certain cousin of his. Finally, after several long minutes, Draco looked down at a shame faced Ginny. He had murder in his eyes. He brought Ginny into his arms and hugged her tight to him.
"Ginny, I love you, but I need to think."
"I understand, I love you too. Draco, please find it in yourself to forgive me," she pleaded softly.
Draco didn't say anything else. He just disapparated, leaving behind a very guilt-stricken, beautiful, young woman. His Ginny.
