This story is for all my faithful Lucius fans... I love you all!!!!!! Thanks for seeing me through to fruition on this story :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hermione sent and owl to Harry to see if she could stay with him for awhile, till she found her own place. She couldn’t take staying in the Manor with Lucius, it was becoming too painful to see him retreat into himself and push her farther and farther away, she assumed he needed some distance to grieve, and for the time being she would keep in contact with Oberon to keep an eye on him.
Lucius couldn’t help but feel hollow ever since she left, taking with her what little light he had left in his life. He welcomed his suffering as a way to ease the guilt of being the reason his family was killed. He knew Bellatrix was driven insane with grief after Voldemort’s death and that she was jealous of her sisters happiness and his success, but he knew he could have done more to protect them.
A month rolled by with Hermione keeping tabs on Lucius while she lived with Harry. She would soon go on maternity leave and needed to find a day time watchmen for Lucius since Oberon could not keep watch by day.
Hermione forced potions and vitamins on him while at the office and he begrudgingly took them. His cheeks were becoming hollowed and his once sparkling eyes were dulled as she appraised his appearance from her desk. She felt tears gathering but bit them back quickly, she knew her time away from the Manor had only done him harm and she was now worried he might become suicidal. All the signs were there but she could not bring herself to admit it.
His dull grey eyes met hers and she saw the hopelessness and pain etched clearly around his eyes. His light was fading ever so quickly. Tomorrow would mark the day she left him to go on maternity leave and he was unsure of when he could see her again, he was suddenly consumed with fear and anxiety. “Are you happy?” he asked softly and suddenly from his desk.
She stared at him incredulously before her eyes betrayed her, filling with pain, they spoke volumes. “I’m miserable” she said with a smirk. “You won’t be back for another couple months” he said to his desk. She gave a silent nod, unsure of what she should say or do as she gathered up her things to leave the office. She slowly got up from her desk and shuffled to the door, she looked back at him, a broken man, but the man she was still living for. “Lucius… I… take care of yourself while I’m away”. He gave her a weak smile and nodded as she vanished from his doorstep.
He was now alone in the large office, now she was gone and would never come back to him, he knew it was true. She had a child to look after and couldn’t bother with his sad excuse for a life. He had nothing left, everyone he loved was now dead or gone from him.
He had waited for this moment, when he would be utterly isolated. He had gotten all his affairs in order, bequeathing everything to Hermione and the baby. He penned a note to Hermione
My heart,
I have left you my legacy, fortune and heart. I love you more than you will ever know and because of that love I cannot allow you to suffer any longer. Someday you will understand my actions, to free us from my bonds of pain. I wish you freedom and happiness, move on and never look back.
Love unspeakable – Lucius
He folded the parchment and laid it on her desk, crossing the room he filled a glass to the brim with Hemlock juice. He sank onto the leather couch with the drink in his hand as he stared into the fire. Suddenly Hermione burst through the door.
Her eyes raked over the office, Lucius was sitting on the couch with a glass in his hand, a startled and guilty expression painted on his aristocratic features. “I’ve forgotten my.. err… oh for Merlins sake… I need to talk to you…” she stammered when her eye caught site of the letter on her desk.
She knew it was from Lucius, by the expensive type of parchment he always used. “What’s this?” she asked as she opened the letter and quickly scanned its contents. Lucius watched in horror as she read the note and watched her face contort in pain.
Her knees gave out and she sank into her chair, staring at Lucius’s face illuminated by the fire. His resolve to kill himself melted as he stared into her face, she was his reason for living and couldn’t leave her side. They locked gazes across the office for what seemed like an eternity before she got up from her desk and briskly waddled across the room.
He stared in awe of her, her brown eyes alight with a fire he had never seen before. Her expression was of the fiercest rage yet her hands were steady as she ripped the drink from his hand. She sniffed at the lethal juice in the glass and threw it into the fireplace, the fine crystal glass shattered into pieces against the stone of the fireplace.
He opened his mouth to explain but she quickly wound her hand back and slapped him with all the force she could muster. He felt the sting of her small hand across his cheek and something so unexplainable happened to him. He felt the dull ache inside of him subside, the physical pain made way to an orgy of repressed emotion and life, so much he was paralyzed to the spot.
Hermione’s eyes filled with tears as she sank to her knees in front of him. She cupped his face in her hands and stared into his now sparkling grey eyes. “H-how could you?” she sobbed. His hands instantly wrapped around her and a warmth overwhelmed him.
“I l-love you, I can’t live without y-you!” her entire body was shaking and Lucius scooped her up and held her in his arms on the couch. “Hermione…” he said softly before she cut him off.
“I can’t believe you were going to end your life… I need you, the baby needs you!”. He stroked her hair as she clung to him like a scared child. “I’m sorry love, you were leaving me, I thought I had nothing left” he explained into her hair.
“Lucius… it’s your baby” she said as she met his gaze. He froze on the spot, as her words washed over him. The tiniest flicker of anger of her secrecy gave way to an eruption of sheer bliss. Mere minutes ago he was a man ready to throw in the towel, having nothing to live for, having a broken heart he thought that would never be fixed.
He watched the tears glistening around her eyes like little stars adorning the depths of her warm brown eyes. She stepped in and made everything in his world come into full bloom again, he was in love, and always would be. He couldn’t control the urge to kiss her and he crashed his lips onto hers. He felt an intense fire spreading through him, for the first time since Narcissa and Draco’s death, he felt alive.
They grappled with each other, their tongues seeking dominance with each other as they formed a tangle of limbs. He couldn’t get enough of her, her scent, her soft skin and that wild mane of hair to sink his fingers into. Their mouths drank each other in until they both panted against each other, out of breath.
Lucius held her closer to him and inhaled her scent, missing every detail about her. “This is the second time you saved me love, when I was comatose I was literally on the verge of death, I could feel myself being drawn out of my body when I heard your voice… I couldn’t exactly decipher what exactly you were saying, I just followed it blindly… and it led me back to my body, to you and our baby”.
She reveled in the expression on his gorgeous face and the light that shone from his eyes now was almost blinding. “You’ll have me back then?” she asked softly. “I’ll have you and no other, under some conditions” he said with a broad smile. “Conditions?”
“That you be my bride, and come back to live at the Manor immediately” he beamed.
“But… what will people say? I’m visibly pregnant… and Draco and Narcissa…” she trailed on. “They would want to see us happy love, and I could give a damn what the rest of the world thinks, as long as I have you… Hermione, do I have you back for good?”
She offered him her hand, and he promptly placed a gentle kiss on her wrist. “Lady Malfoy at your service” she said breathily.
And so we shall fast forward into our story…
Hermione had awoken from a quick nap by the sound of laughter ringing in her ears. It was Lucius’s wonderful booming laugh mixed with the musical giggles of Draco jr. Hermione and Lucius had decided under the circumstances of naming their son after his big brother, and guardian angel of sorts.
She followed the laughter down the hall and she felt weightless with happiness at what she saw. Lucius was sitting Indian style on the exquisite Persian rug, he was reading to the baby sitting in his lap, chewing happily on Lucius’s emerald silk tie. The sunlight was pouring down on them, making their shocking platinum hair all aglow. Her angels.
As soon as she entered the room two sets of dazzling grey eyes were on her. Lucius gave her a sly smile “I was reading him your copy of Little Red Riding Hood… he seems to like it when I do all the voices” he said with shrug and grin. She would never have imagined Lucius would turn out to be this attentive of a father, Draco jr. was all he talked about and showered the baby with presents and attention.
She stood behind Lucius and looked down on her two loves. Draco jr’s eyes were slowly sliding shut as Lucius took him in his arms. “I must confess I have designs for him, Head Boy, Quidditch Captain, then he’ll go on to be Minister of Magic” Lucius babbled softly until Hermione cut him off. “Baby steps love, walking and talking comes before assuming a world leadership position” she said as she nuzzled into Lucius’s hair.
“I know I know… we have so much to look forward to, nothing will stop me from being there when he gets his letter from Hogwarts, his first Quidditch match, his first job, when he marries… I just got a second chance… I won’t take that for granted” he breathed. Hermione gave him a quiet laugh “I do wonder what house he will be sorted into…”. Lucius’s lips grazed hers and nibbled on her ear lobe “care to make a friendly wager?”
