Cover his back
A second chapter for today which will hopefully not be the last. Enjoy.
23. Cover his back
“Potter, you need to get up,” Snape said impatiently once again nudging the boy roughly.
Slowly Harry opened his eyes blinking the sleepiness away and then put on his glasses.
Snape was already dressed in his black robe and he stood in the door, irritation on his face.
'So much for a loving start into my first day as a thoroughly fucked wizard.'
Getting up he winced a little when he sat up and then finally something like concern could be seen on Snape's face.
“On your night table is a potion that is going to relieve the pain.”
Harry nodded yawning. “What time is it?”
“Almost seven,” Snape muttered grumpily obviously not happy with being up that early in the morning.
After he had downed the potion Harry quickly put on a fresh pair of jeans and a grey polo shirt he had bought in Diagon Alley this summer but so far had not worn.
It showed off his broad shoulders at least Hermione had said so when she talked him into buying it.
When he passed Snape he could feel the elder wizard's gaze as it settled on his bum- he would have to thank Hermione later for talking him into buying a tight fitting jeans along with the shirt.
Downstairs it was quiet and in the kitchen sat only Tonks her head buried in a book who must have been reading something funny because she giggled all the time.
“Where is everyone?” Harry asked and accepted a cup of tea gratefully.
“Doing their business,” Snape muttered as he put a plate with two slices of buttered toast and scrambled eggs in front of Harry who obediently started to eat.
“Why are we up so early?” Harry asked as he put the last piece of toast into his mouth.
“Last night some of Voldemorts people attacked Grimauld place obviously under the impression we were still there. When they found it empty and deserted they left but Dumbledore had placed a neat tracking spell on them and now we know where their base is.”
“And?”
“As of right now the members of the Order of the Phoenix are preparing for battle and we will attack them once it is dark. We are taking the fight to them and that will grant us an advantage in killing Riddle.”
Harry stared at Snape. “Us?”
Finishing his cup of tea Snape nodded.
“Let me show you something!” He got up and Harry followed him outside into the backyard where there were a couple of tin cans placed on the far away wall.
“Aim and cast stupefy!” Snape demanded and dutifully Harry did finding the spell nothing extraordinary.
“Now it's my turn,” Snape stated and very gracefully mimicked Harry's spell. Turning to Harry he pointed to the last can. “Now we will cast together.”
Both aimed and cast but this time the curse was a deep scarlet flame that not only kicked the can off the wall but tore the wall to pieces, covering both wizards with dust.
Coughing Harry stared at the destroyed backyard.
“What was that?”
“That,” Snape said evenly, “was our combined magic.”
“Is this going to happen with every spell?” Harry asked, now sharing Snape's excitement.
Snape nodded mutely putting his wand back into the sleeve of his robe.
Harry could not avert his eyes from the chaotic yard.
“Riddle will not know what hit him,” Harry whispered now filled with hope and a desire to end it for good.
He followed Snape back into the house and the potion master steered Harry to the small sitting area.
“Now rest a bit while I have to tie up some lose ends.” With that he turned around and left while Harry got comfortable on one of the couches.
He must have fallen asleep because somebody was nudging him awake and when he opened his eyes he was surprised to see Dumbledore.
“Harry, are you ready to leave?” he asked concern in his voice.
Sitting up Harry nodded. “Where is Snape?”
“He accompanied the others to Voldemort's base to brief them about what he knows and they are very likely attacking at the moment.”
Harry jumped to his feet. “Why has he gone without me? What if gets killed before we have a chance to kill Riddle?” Harry's face was pale now with little red patches on his cheeks the thought of Snape being killed causing him to break out in sweat.
The headmaster placed a comforting hand on Harry's shoulder.
“Severus will be fine, do not worry. He knows enough of the dark arts to keep himself alive and just in case he gets in trouble, Moody and Shaklebolt have been assigned the task of covering his back until we get there.”
Now a little bit calmed Harry felt Dumbledore's arm pulling him a little closer.
“Are you ready to apparate Harry?”
When Harry affirmed he gave him an encouraging smile and then they disappeared with a plop..
