Severus lightly touched the necklace that hung around his neck. A thin chain, it held his silver bonding ring. He sighed heavily and dropped it beneath his shirt.

"I am sure your mate will fight with us," Lucius said quietly.

Severus looked at him sharply, before scanning the crowded to room to be sure the comment had not be overheard. As everyone continued with their battle preparations, he gave Lucius a curt nod.

"Of course," he answered. Jerking his dragonhide gauntlets into place, his eyes dropped to the ground.

"You should have told him about Dumbledore," Lucius said. Severus watched the blond holster his wand.

"Mind your own business, Lucius," Severus spat, his anger mostly self-directed.

Lucius gave him a look of pity and turned on his heel, vanishing into the crowd.

"What do you plan to do with Harry?" Arthur stood beside Albus in his office. They looked out the window to where the approach of the deatheaters was a dark cloud in the sky.

"I'll kill him, if he is so rude as to survive the battle," Albus said coldly. He glanced at Arthur. "If Hermione lives, does Ronald still want her?"

"No," Arthur sneered. "She's tainted by the perversion of that Lestrange witch."

"I will make sure she dies, then. She will be in good company, as Severus will be joining her." Albus turned from the window.

"Will Hagrid's cousin be joining the battle?" Arthur followed Albus from the office.

"He'll be needed to kill Hagrid during the fight," Albus said.

Arthur looked at him in surprise. "Why?"

Albus gave him a cold smile. "I think the fool is bonded to Severus." At Arthur's look of disgust, he nodded. "Yes. I can not have that bumbling fool switching sides when he sees his mate on the other side of the battlefield."

Harry stood between Dumbledore and Arthur Weasley, unsure why he felt out of place. The Order, as well as most of the Light side, flanked him, but he felt like he was in the wrong place. His eyes moved from the people around him to the line of witches and wizards across the field from him.

"Send out Harry Potter and I will kill you all quickly," an arrogant voice yelled. Laughter from the masked Deatheater's followed the comment.

"He fights for the Light, Tom," Albus returned.

Harry glanced at the headmaster, who did not look at him. He swallowed hard, a bad feeling beginning to nag at him.

"Then he wil watch his old friends die," the same voice yelled back. Suddenly, the speaker dropped his hood and raised his wand to a smaller figure beside him.

Harry frowned at Voldemort, before turning his gaze to the masked figure at wandpoint. They calmly removed their mask and Harry gasped.

"Everything they've told you is a lie, Harry!" Hermione shouted, gesturing toward those who stood around him.

Harry stared at her for a moment, then dropped his gaze. "You chose your side, Hermione."

"Harry, don't do this," she yelled, seemingly sincere.

Harry refused to look at her. He raised his wand and pointed toward the Deatheaters. As the spell fell from his lips, the field filled with bursts of light, as the battle began.

Hurgid stood next to Hagrid waiting for the right moment to strike. As the battle began in earnest, he took his shot. He raised his club and swung it toward the other half-giant's head. It hit only air, as Hagrid ducked and whirled out of range.

Hurgid laughed. "Do you know what we did to the pretty, dark man?" he asked in a conversational tone.

Rage immediately filled Hagrid's eyes. "Wha' did ya do wit' Sev'rus?" He growled, seemingly oblivious to the battle going on around them.

Hurgid leered and licked his lips. "I don't think I've ever heard anyone scream that loud for that long."

"Wha' did you do?" Hagrid bellowed. His hands were fists at his sides.

Hurgid gripped his club tightly, circling his cousin. "I broke him where he can't be fixed," he said gleefully.

Hagrid's eyes narrowed dangerously. With inhuman speed, he lunged forward. "May the beasts feed on you while there's still breath in yer body."

Hurgid stared at him with surprise, slowly sinking to his knees. He looked down in confusion, blinking at the quickly spreading blood stain on his chest. His eyes slowly rose to look at Hagrid's fierce expression.

"Tha' is no' near wha' you deserve," Hagrid growled, as he wiped the long, jagged knife on his pant leg.

Hurgid's vision tunneled until darkness reigned.

Dumbledore looked around with the beginnings of panic. Over half of the Light side was already dead, most of the living were wounded, and still the Dark pressed forward. Harry dueled hard, but his reaction time was slower than in training. As if he were holding back.

As he watched the elder Weasley's fall, he glanced around. His spy among the dark quickly caught his eye. Disguised as Walden Mcnair, Ginny Weasley strode purposefully toward Harry Potter. Albus sighed quietly, raising his wand and firing off the killing curse at the redhead.

The action gained Harry's attention. He swiveled, casting Dumbledore a thankful look, and strode toward the Dark Lord.

Dumbledore saw the moment Voldemort saw Harry. The Dark Lord paused, looking around. Dumbledore raised his wand and pointed it at Harry. He smiled coldly, as the green spell left his wand. Voldemort's eyes found him, then saw the blast of green leave his wand.

A fraction of a second later, a stunning spell left Voldemort's wand and struck Harry square in the chest. He crumbled to the ground, as the green blast sped over his head and hit Voldemort.

As one, the members of Voldemort's inner circle collapsed.
