Ch. 2: An Interlude of "Light"

Ch. 2: An Interlude of “Light”

The twilight sky above Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry rolled with deep purple and blue clouds, the thick damp air promising heavy rain.  While the shadows cast by the tall and nearly ominous castle screamed of hidden evils the insides were alight with torches and the sounds of hushed arguments.  Between twin gargoyles and up spiraling stairs sat a circular room, filled to the brim with a miss-match group, each trying to be heard over each other.

“Enough!” Albus Dumbledore said, blue eyes beneath half moon glasses glittering dangerously.  The room was silent before the word finished, and compared to the chaos of before the silence seemed menacing, “Are you certain none of you has heard or seen him?”

“No Headmaster, he hasn’t written me or Hermoine all summer,” Ron said, “Which I don’t see the problem with!”

“The problem, Ronald, is that he’s now missing and his family too!” Hermoine said, nervously fiddling with her bushy brown hair, “and if he goes missing, he can’t be used in our plans and then we’ve been his ‘friends’ for all this time for nothing,”

“Oh…”

As the pair continued to bicker back and forth, others adding their opinions, no one noticed what seemed like a flash of light enter the room and settle back in a darkened corner, disappearing in the shadows there. Nestled against some golden contraption silver eyes looked from under a pitch black hood towards the painting of Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryfinndor, whispering softly, “Le suilon, Nîn Arans (I greet thee, my kings),”

“Ah, I almost thought you’d miss this one,” Godric said from where he lounged with Salazar snoring softly across his chest.

“They are not where they usually are,” The stranger said accusingly, keeping one ear on the traitorous conversations of the group around her, though those eyes stayed trained on the founders.

“Yes, I’ve rather gotten the impression that Lord Black knows something is going on and has barred them from his home, oh and it would seem that Harry is missing,”

“He’s with his mate,” Salazar said sleepily, stretching to look languidly at the stranger, “They are safe enough, for now, more troubling though is what this plan is, honestly you’d think they wouldn’t be so vague and beating around the bush with it,”

“Isn’t it obvious enough?! They are betraying him; they’ve lulled him into their arms only to kill him for their own game, proiectus ignavis! (honorless cowards!),”

“Yes dear, but how? That is what we will really need to know to help out Harry and his, otherwise its but useless knowledge,” Salazar said, a faint voice yelled from far off how no knowledge is useless knowledge, “Yes Rowena,”

“Shh, they’re saying something important!”

“Maybe the Death Eaters got to him,” Molly said, “Where is that slimy bastard?”

“I don’t know, he refuses to answer my summons,” Dumbledore said, frowning.

“You don’t think he’s turned do you? We can’t afford to not have him -nasty as it is- on our side,”

“No, no, Severus is too loyal to do something like that, besides you know I spike his drink with Veritaserum every time he comes back and reports,”

Salazar and Godric both snorted, and would have collapsed into complete laughter if they could be sure that the other portraits wouldn’t hear and try to investigate.  The stranger merely smirked and seeing as the meeting was breaking up went to leave, using its own type of magick that even Mad-Eye couldn’t detect.

Unbeknownst to anyone, including the stranger, another had been peeking in on the meeting, with curly reddish copper hair and lipid blue eyes that filled with tears at the realization that nothing was as it had been made to seem her entire life, and upon hearing what her own future was to be in this war, made a vow that she would do everything in her power to stop the so called “light”.

Now, if only she knew how.
