Chapter Two: The Clues Add up

Both boys sat there in shock, she was still held tightly in Ron\'s arms.

“What?” Harry asked flabbergasted.

She took a breath and calmed down farther, “Out in the field were we were facing off the Death-Eaters I came across Viktor.”

Ron interrupted, “Oh, Gods Hermione I\'m sorry you have to find him like that. I know you loved him but to find him dead after all this time,” He trailed off pulling her closer thinking that she would need comfort.

Her voice broke again as she started to talk, “I wish I had found him dead,” She looked into their eyes. “He\'s turned against us. He\'s a Death-Eater.” Hermione\'s tears started to flow again as she thought of the only man that she had been in love with.

Ron snarled at that. The bastard had claimed to love her and yet joined the side that would rather see her dead above all else.

Harry looked pensive all of a sudden. It just didn\'t make sense why would he do such a thing after claiming to love her. “Tell us exactly what happened so that we can think about this logically. I just doesn\'t make sense.”

Hermione took a deep breath and told them about loosing her wand and then her three against one fight and how after she took care of them that she found herself at his wand point, his shocked expression and how he let her go.

Harry nodded and thought about it as he paced in front of her while she remained in Ron\'s lap.

“He just let you go. He didn\'t say anything, no secret nods or any thing he just was shocked, recovered, and then left?” he asked.

“No, nothing at all he just left when the retreat sparks were thrown up.” She said.

He shook his head and continued to pace until he heard a shout from down stairs.

“Get down here we have another tip!” Lupin yelled.

The Ron and Hermione scrambled to get up. She casted a spell clearing her red eyes and they all made their way down into the Dinning Room where the rest of the Order sat.

In the window sat a brown owl that seemed really familiar to Hermione but she couldn\'t place it. She had that sense of familiarity every time the bird came to drop off a new tip from Agent V.

None of the order other than Moody and Dumbledore knew of V\'s true identity. He was a spy for the order and was deep into the inner circle of Voldemort\'s followers. He kept close eye on the goings on of the Death-Eaters and reported what he could back to the order with out risking himself too much. He was a spy, however, unlike Professor Snape he was an unknown spy which worked well for the order. Since this person started his espionage, the attacks were better countered and fewer deaths befell the Order members.

This spy was good, very good. Not even the Snape could figure out who he was. Some were leery at first to trust the information but Moody and Dumbledore stood behind the information and after it proved to be true they started to relax about trusting this mysterious person.

Moody strolled across the room and took the note from the bird and he flew off not having ever waited for a response. V trusted that when the bird returned with out his letter that it was received and needed no response.

Everyone sat down and Hermione had the privilege to be seated next to Moody as he called the meeting to order.

He scanned through it and laid it down on the table. The letter was in code so not just any one could decipher it. Hermione, ever the curious one leaned forward a bit to read the coded message. It was an odd message for anyone who could by chance pick it up to read it.

As she studied the note she again noticed something familiar about the writing but she thought nothing of it and returned back to paying attention to what was going on.

The meeting was about the final battle, it would seem that Voldemort has discovered that Harry had destroyed the pieces of his soul and wished to duel him one on one to the death.

Harry, of course, agreed to the task.

There was an uproar of voices all shouting out possible plans. Hermione took careful notes. Nothing was agreed upon.

Later, but finally arriving to the meeting, Snape with his billowing robes strolled forward, “I have talked with the Death-Eaters.”

There was silence. The plan had been in the works for a while now. The death toll was climbing at every fight. He was to talk to the Death-Eaters. Many just wanted an end to the war. They were loosing people just as much at the Aurors and Order was. They knew that they would have to face the punishment for what they did. But if they turned they would receive fair trials and some leniency. It was more than they had hoped for.

“It would seem that most of the sane and younger Death-Eaters are willing to put a stop to the war and killing. Just as we wanted. All of those I talked to are willing to turn their wands against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. In his insanity he still believes that his followers are willing to go to battle to die for him and his cause even when he himself is not Pure-Blooded. This however is not the case. They are no more willing to die for him than we are.” Snape told the quiet room.

“How do we know we can trust them?” A new recruit asked.

Snape sneered at the newbie, “They are all under a wizards oath.”

He turned to Harry. “They along with us are willing to weaken him with spells and a few of my potions that he believes will make him stronger. However, for him to fully die it must be you to cast the final blow.”

It would not be a fair fight but honor didn\'t matter when they were fighting for the future of the World, both Muggle and Wizard.

“I understand Professor,” he said to Snape. Everyone again started shouting out new plans and of course Hermione took them down.

Soon the meeting was called to a close. Hermione took her notes and handed them to Moody as every one exited to go off on their own ways.

Bed was calling for Hermione. She drifted off from the others after wishing them all a good night. Her warm bed was a comfort to her even more than the hot shower she took before crawling into it.

As she laid there contemplating the day and Viktor she begin whirling facts around in her head. First their was his disappearance around the time of The Order started getting tips from V, the familiar owl and writing.

Suddenly it all made sense to her she shot up in her bed wide awake now. She pulled on her house robe and grabbed her wand from beneath her pillow then left to Find Moody and Dumbledore. Both of which were still in the house.

Some one had some explaining to do and she was going to get her answers one way or another she thought as she gripped her wand in her hand.
