None the wiser

I walked in the front door and was immediately met with a squeal. Ginny threw herself at me hugging me tightly. I smiled and hugged her back. “Hi Aunt Ginny!” Sage said making Ginny smile and pick her up. “Hello Sage, have you been a good girl for mommy?” She asked Sage nodded. Ginny put her down. “Can I go say hi to uncle Harry?” Sage asked I nodded smiling. “I love my goddaughter.” Ginny said smiling at me. “We’ve missed you Mione.” Ginny said grabbing my hand and pulling me into the kitchen.

Harry was sitting in front of Sage who was talking animatedly. Harry was smiling at her while Sage talked. Ginny cleared her throat making Harry turn. He smiled when he saw me walking over to me and picking me up. “I’ve missed you Mione!” He said kissing my cheek. I laughed and smiled. “I’ve missed you guys too.” I said. “Why don’t you come back?” Harry asked causing Ginny to shoot him a look. “Actually. I have bought a house.” I said “It’s closer and back in the wizarding world.” I said. “Are you gonna be ok here Mione. I mean with Sirius coming and all?” he asked. I sighed. “I don’t know Harry I mean I haven’t seen him in five years he doesn’t know about Sage, I don’t know.” I answered softly.

I was about to say something when I heard the front door open. “Harry Ginny. Am I too early?” Sirius yelled through the house making my blood turn to ice. I looked at Harry and Ginny. I heard Sirius laugh and the kitchen doors swung open. “Who’s kid is this?” Sirius asked holding Sage in his arms who was laughing. “She’s mine.” I said softly. Sirius looked at me shock registering on my face before he looked back at Sage. “Mommy he’s funny.” Sage said climbing out of Sirius’s arms and over to me. I smiled. “Why don’t you go check out the library honey.” I said making her smile before running off. “you’re a mom.” Sirius said looking at me. “How old is she?” he asked. “She’s going to be five in in March.” I said softly. “What’s her name?” He asked I smiled. “Her name is Sage.” I said softly.

Realization seemed to dawn on his face. “Is she mine?” he asked suddenly. I looked away biting my lower lip. “yes.” I whispered. He looked at me and then at Harry and Ginny. “Did you two know?” he asked. They nodded. He laughed. “So everyone KNEW I had a daughter and didn’t feel I NEEDED TO KNOW?” he asked his voice holding an edge that I knew too well.

I felt my own anger sparking. “Sirius calm down.” I said softly. “CALM DOWN I HAVE A DAMN DAUGHTER I NEVER KNEW ABOUT!” He yelled. “Sirius, you never wanted children. Don’t act like you did.” I snapped. “you never told me so you wouldn’t know if I wanted children!” he snapped back angrily. I ran a hand through my hair. “Harry this was a bad idea. Sage can stay I’m gonna go.” I said grabbing my bag and walking towards the front door. “Hermione wait!” Ginny called. I stopped my hand on the front door. I turned to Ginny tears rolling down my cheeks.

“I’m so sorry Mione. Please don’t leave I need you here. I want you to be my made of Honor, and I wanted to ask if Sage could be the flower girl.” Ginny said. I looked at her. “I don’t know Ginny I mean after what happened with Sirius. I heard a crash and Sage scream. “SAGE!” I screamed running towards the library. I walked in and saw one of the bookcases had fallen over. I didn’t see Sage. “Oh my god.” I cried digging through the books desperately. Ginny levitated the bookecase and I saw Sage laying there unconscious. “Oh Sage.” I cried gathering her into my arms. “My baby.” I cried seeing a trickle of blood flowing from her head. Ginny ran out of the room. Leaving Sirius and Harry with me.

“Is she ok?” Harry asked while Sirius walked over and picked up Sage carrying her over to the couch. “What the hell happened?” I asked. Turning to Harry. “I don’t know Mione I was in the kitchen. “I don’t know how that bookcase could have fallen Mione, I had a spell cast on it to make sure it wouldn’t fall. I looked at my baby. Her brown hair was messed up and her grey eyes closed. I couldn’t stop the tears that had started to flow.

“Make her drink this.” Ginny said handing me a potion. I opened her mouth and poured it in watching her swallow before her eyes fluttered open. “Mommy?” she asked before hugging me tightly crying. “What happened Baby?” I asked. “I was trying to get the book at the top. Then I heard a creak and then I don’t know.” she said looking at me.

I hugged her tighter, I waited until Sage had walked out of the room with Ginny before I stood up only to have my knee’s buckle. Sirius grabbed me before I hit the ground setting me back down on the couch his eyes meeting mine. “Relax Mione.” Harry said looking at me. I nodded trying to calm down my heart was racing. “Harry can me and Hermione have a few minutes?” Sirius asked softly. I looked at Harry my eyes wide. Harry nodded shooting me an apologetic look. I stood to leave only to have Sirius grab my wrist and pull me to him his lips crashing down on mine. I didn’t fight him my hands automatically weaving through his hair. I broke away. “no I can’t do this.” I said taking deep breath. “Mione.” He whispered looking at me the look in his eyes one of desperation.

“We need to talk.” he said softly. I nodded and sat back down. “Why didn’t you tell me Mione?” he asked his tone filled with sorrow. “I talked to Remus after I found out I was pregnant, he said you had never mentioned kids. I figured you didn’t want kids and I didn’t want to burden you I knew I could raise a child on my own without having you tied to me when you didn’t want to be.” I said simply. “Mione why didn’t you come to me?” he asked running a hand through his hair. “Sirius you never in all the year’s I’ve known you mentioned anything about kids or regretting not having them and Remus even said the same thing. We had never said what we were. I wasn’t going to make you miserable.” I said.

“I wouldn’t have been miserable Mione.” he said. “Yes you would have Sirius, you would have hated me and hated the fact that I was having a baby. You would have regretted everything.” I said angrily. “Don’t act like you know what I would have done. I’ve missed five years of my own child’s life. Five birthdays her first words her first steps the first time she ever took a breath. I’ve missed all of that. That I can’t forgive you for. I want to be a part of her life. I refuse to walk away.” he said just as angrily. I sighed.

“Sirius this isn’t going to work. I can’t risk you getting to know her and then disappearing. I can’t put her through that.” I said angrily. “I’m not going anywhere Mione.” He said. “You’re the one that just up and left.” He said. “Yeah but you know the funny thing about that is YOU NEVER CAME LOOKING FOR ME! The twins found me they were a bit confused but then they saw the baby bump and put two and two together. Ginny knew Harry knew. You never came looking for me. Never. That just show’s how much you cared.” I said angrily.

Sirius stood up as I moved to walk out his hands grabbing me before pinning me against the wall his eyes flashing angrily. I looked at him with wide eyes. “You know why I never came looking for you?” He asked angrily. I remained quiet. “because you hurt me Mione you FUCKIN HURT ME!” he yelled. One night were fucking the next your gone leaving me alone, to wonder how did I fuck up this time?” he said. “I’m sorry Sirius but I won’t let you hurt our daughter.” I said before apparating away. I appeared in the living room of my parents house. Cardboard boxes around me. I wrote Ginny a letter before sending it off with my owl Ariel. When she was gone I collapsed on the floor sobs escaping my throat wracking my body. I stayed there for awhile before dragging myself upstairs and running the tub. I sunk into the hot water more tears escaping. What was I going to do now?
