Empty Houses and Strange Events
Chapter 2- Empty Houses and Strange Events
May 25, 2008
Harry scanned the crowd looking for his Aunt and Uncle. They knew they had to pick him up early and Harry just couldn't understand why they weren't there.
They wouldn't dare abandon him. The Order had warned them more than once not to try anything funny. Vernon Dursley had a bad temper, but he was as good as a coward.
"Hermione I don't see my family." Harry told her with a slight frown.
Hermione frowned. She didn't put it past the Dursley’s to up and leave. She hadn't heard much about them since Harry was very private about his home life.
Harry spotted Remus Lupin in the crowd. He didn't look like he was happy in the least. He walked right up to Harry and took a deep breath.
“The order was setting up your protection squad and when we went to your house we found the Dursley’s and all of their belongings missing.” Lupin informed Harry.
"Do you think it was Voldemort?" Harry asked.
"I don't think so there would have been some damage to the house. It looks like they ran." Lupin replied with each word his face became more and more grim.
Harry was at a loss. He didn't know where he would stay. He had only known the Dursley’s home for almost seventeen years. He hated it there, but with him and Ginny breaking up at the funeral, he knew the Burrow wasn't a good idea.
Hermione knew Harry too well. She knew he would be wondering where he would go. Almost without thinking, she knew exactly what to do.
"Harry don't worry. I can get my parents to take you in. Of course, I know you are going to move into your own home when you turn 17." Hermione told him unable to contain a smile she didn't know she was wearing.
Hermione drug Harry to find her parents without so much as a word. It didn't take long for her to spot her parents. She didn't know why Harry was so reluctant to stay with her leaving Lupin behind looking confused.
"Mom. Dad. This is Harry. I told you about him before." Hermione properly introduced Harry to her parents.
"Hello, Harry. It is nice to finally be properly introduced to you. My name is Jane and this is Robert. It is a pleasure to meet you." Mrs. Granger told Harry.
"It is nice to meet you too, Mr. and Mrs. Granger." Harry politely replied.
"Relax, Harry. Please call us Robert and Jane." Mr. Granger scolded him.
"Mom. Dad. Harry's Aunt and Uncle seem to have left town. I was wondering if we could PLEASE PLEASE let him stay with us." Hermione begged her parents.
"Bad luck, Harry. Of course, you can stay with us as long as you need. Hermione would never forgive us if we didn’t let you." Jane Granger said with a knowing smile.
Mr. and Mrs. Granger knew Harry like he was their own son. Hermione had talked them to death more than once about the Great Harry Potter. If she wasn't dating this Ron bloke, they would have sworn she was dating Harry. Jane Granger knew it was only a matter of time before Harry ended up with her daughter.
"Come Harry let’s take you to your new home." Robert said ushering him to the car.
Harry watched as the country side passed by. He had never been to this area before, but he had never really been many places. There were farm houses and feilds passing by as Mr. Granger drove them through the country. Hermione held his hand in the back seat the whole way. He could barely register what the Grangers were talking about.
"So Harry, it feels like we already know you. Hermione always talks about you, and your adventures together. I would like to know your side of the story, though." Robert said with a laugh.
"I didn't know Hermione had talked about me." Harry replied with a blush.
Hermione sat back listening to her father and Harry talking. She couldn't explain why, but she was feeling very embarrassed. She saw her house come into view, and she noticed that she was holding Harry's hand.
They got out of the car. Harry lugged both his and Hermione's trunks out of the trunk of the car where Robert had stowed them earlier. He was shocked as he saw Hermione's 3 story house. He didn't remember her telling him that she was well off. It was white with tall fence in the backyard. The swimming pool in the back was as large as the Dursley's whole house.
Once everything was settled they had dinner in almost silence. Harry was shown to his room on the second floor right next to Hermione's room, and he laid in the bed thinking of all the things that had happened in the last 24 hrs. After a few hours of thinking he drifted off to sleep.
