Platform 9 3/4

@Demonsthenes:
thanks so much for your Review! Reviews are always a huge boost to keep writing! Aspecially the positive kind :)

Don't be to worried about Lucius and her. It will take a while till we get there and I am not sure yet what exactly will happen between them. There are definitely boys with potential within Hogwarts. I am not sure if it becomes clear yet but you will find Eleanor is very taking in by Harry's stardom. To her he is a celebrity she never thought she would meet in person. But what would Snape say if they became an item...oh dear...
And Draco, yep, I can see that too, he would be my personal choice as well, lol. But I guess we just have to wait and see.

Chapter 2

Platform 9 ¾

On the 1st of September Eleanor stood with her trunk at Kings Cross Station in London. She stood completely motionless in the middle of a huge and hectically moving chain of people Her black, fluffy kitten Molly was struggling in her arm. Only few people noticed her odd appearance in the stress of getting to work on time. Platform 9 ¾ was right in front of her, she knew that, thanks to Professor Snape’s exact descriptions. She stared at the brick arch seemingly absent-mindedly and only blinked when a boy ran pass her and vanished into it. It was time… time to look forward, time to start a new life.

She breathed deep and pulled her trunk towards the wall.

A moment later she appeared on the other side and Molly was momentarily distracted from struggling. The kitten’s eyes widened at the big red steam train.

Eleanor secured Molly more firmly in her grip and struggled her trunk onto the train. She wandered down the small coaches and past the compartments. She was hoping to find one for herself but all the compartments were busy with groups of students who obviously knew each other and talked and joked excitedly. Molly, infatuated by the excitement struggled even harder. But finally Eleanor found a compartment with only one girl sitting in it. The girl was about her own age and hiding her face behind a magazine. Eleanor watched her a moment and decided that this was the best she would get and entered. As she sat down the kitten jumped free and occupied the seat next to Eleanor with a dignified pose.

The girl did not emerge from the magazine, but a hand shot out from behind it offering some rainbow coloured sweets. Eleanor looked at them for a moment, she had not seen candy like this since she had moved away from Britain 5 years ago.

She picked three sweets and leaned back again without a word, but already felt a lot less lonely.

She looked out of the window as the train started moving and left the station.

“You’re new.” Said a voice from behind the magazine.

“Yes”, answered Eleanor.

“Why?”

“My mother died.”

“Mine is dead, too”, said the girl simply, still hiding behind the magazine. Eleanor was grateful for this, as she only had a voice to deal with, which seemed a lot easier just now.

She formed a thin smile. As sad as it was, she was glad that they had something in common.

Suddenly the girl dropped the magazine and her face came into view. She had blond long hair and big dreamy eyes. But Eleanor found her very sympathetic looking. The girl held the magazine towards her just like her sweets before.

“I am finished, you can have it now”, she said.

Eleanor looked at the cover. The magazine was called the Quibbler and on first sight did not attract her attention. So she did not take it. The girl glared at her expectantly.

“My father is the editor”, she said, and Eleanor felt pressured to take it on that information. But she did not open it. She only stared down at it like onto an object, which use was unknown to her. The girl did not seem to mind too much now and only kept glaring at Eleanor curiously.

“What year are you in?”, she asked.

“I’m entering 5th year.”

It was quiet a moment. The girl kept glaring. Eleanor was glad that Molly sat up and stepped onto her lap asking for attention. This gave her a good excuse to put the magazine aside.

“I wonder what house you will be placed in”; said the girl.

“What house?” asked Eleanor looking up, she had no ideal what the girl meant. She had been under the impression that Hogwarts was a castle.

“Yes”; said the girl but did not explain, instead she continued staring. Eleanor got a bit uncomfortable and started playing with Molly instead.

“That’s a nice kitten”, said the girl, eventually dropping her eyes to the black fluff ball.

Eleanor did not answer and continued stroking Molly who purred, rolling around in her lap.

They were silent for a while, watching Molly in her entertaining, youthful playing.

They could hear the trolley coming up to their compartment. The blond girl looked up:

“Should we get more candy?”

“I don’t have any money on me. My guardian only gave me enough for the journey.”

The girl turned around to her curiously.

“Oh but that was not very clever. What if you had missed the train, then you would have had to find another way to get to Hogwarts and that is expensive. The Ministry is making a huge profit from the money they take of students who miss the train. They use their desperation because the students are scared to get expelled if they arrive late. My dad says it is a disaster really. Many students are paying off debts when they are only 14, because they missed the train only once.”

“Is there no other option, if you miss the train?”, asked Eleanor alarmed. The girl shook her head and added, “Unless you own a flying car…and are able to fly it.”

“A flying…”

“…Car. Harry Potter had one when he was in 2nd year. Unfortunately he crashed into the Womping Willow, he could have died in the crash, but there you see in what psychological state people are when they miss the train.”

The girl looked up to the compartment door when it opened and a boy stuck his round face in.

“Hello Neville”, said the girl and patted the empty seat next to her. The boy stumbled in and set next to Luna. He looked uncomfortably at the stranger opposite him.

The girl offered him a sweet, just as wordlessly as she did Eleanor. But Neville shock his head.

“I was... I was looking for Harry and the others”, he said, and looked as though he was about to get up again.

“Harry Potter? Do you know Harry Potter?” asked Eleanor a bit surprised; she would have never guessed that this nervous unlucky looking boy could be friends with that famous Harry Potter.

The girl turned to look at Neville curiously as though waiting for his answer. But instead Neville looked at her, as though asking for help.

“We fought in the Ministry with Harry Potter, me and Neville.”  she girl finally said in a casual voice.

Eleanor’s eyes widened but she did not get the chance to say something as the girl continued off subject:

“Eleanor’s guardian did not give her any spare money in case she missed the train, can you believe it?”

“Guardian?”

Eleanor opened her mouth to speak but the girl was faster:

“Her parents are dead… obviously.”

Neville blinked shyly at Eleanor: “Who is your guardian then?”

“My father’s cousin. He teaches at Hogwarts actually.”

“What does he teach?” asked the girl.

Eleanor remembered: “Potions.”

Neville turned pale and his mouth quivered as he spit: “Potions?!….Snape?!!”

“Yes, that’s his name”, Eleanor said, unimpressed and resumed stroking Molly.

“How… how does that work?! That must be horrible”, Neville stuttered.

Eleanor ignored him and looked out of the window. She did not feel like admitting to two unfamiliar kids that she had only met her guardian once so far in her life and that she had no idea what the new life with him would be like at Hogwarts, that famous school where ordinary boys were friends with it’s star: Harry Potter.
