The Sorting
Hermione looked up to awe struck faces. The silence was deafening, broken only by the sound of Trelawney slurping from her spoon.
“WHAT!!! Is that hat totally bonkers? Something must be wrong with it. It has to be broken. How else can you explain Hermione in Slytherin?” A red-faced Ron shouted to anyone who would listen. He turned to look at Harry who was staring gaping at Hermione who sat on the stool in stunned silence.
“I can assure you Mister Weasley, that the hat is perfectly sane and is not in any way shape or form ‘bonkers’. This is the very reason of why I wanted to re-sort everyone, to show you just how silly the house rivalries are. Everyone has these characteristics in them, some just develop them later in life than others.” Dumbledore said as he looked up at the head table where a scowling Snape looked back at him.
“But that’s definitely an interesting development,” Dumbledore said chuckling, as he watched the horror play across McGonagall’s face. Her Gryffindor princess was now amongst the snakes of Hogwarts. For her, this day could not get worse. She called out the next name, and continued the process in a state of shock that was comical for those that noticed, namely one Severus Snape.
“Malfoy, Draco.” Snape’s attention immediately snapped to his godson, who was watching the sorting with a confident and yet hesitant air about him. Draco walked up to the stool and sat down with a coolness that it took most years to perfect.
“Oh my, this is not a difficult decision at all. You wasted my time with this one. You all should have been able to tell which house to put him in. Silly professors. Oh well. Slytherin!” The hat shouted. All the Slytherins sighed with relief that he wasn’t leaving and the Gyrffindors sighed with relief that he wasn’t in their house.
“Parkinson, Pansy!” When Pansy stepped off the stool, a hush fell over the crowd, everyone’s eyes knowingly turning to the boy standing in the middle of the crowd, his shaggy black hair and sparkling green eyes shining in the candlelight.
“Potter, Harry.” McGonagall whispered, as a sense of awe and dread filled the room. The question on everyone’s lips: where will he be placed?
“Ahhh, Mister Potter, we meet again. But how things have changed since that last time. Your fierce loyalty to those close to you is a very admirable quality. And clearly you have vast amounts of bravery, after what you’ve been through how could you not? Hmmm. This is a little tricky. Gryffindor!” Everyone in the hall released a large exhalation of breath as they realized that not everything was going to change. The students continued to file up to the stool discovering if they had changed that much in the past six years.
“Weasley, Ronald.”
“Ahhh yes, another Weasley. Well, definitely not very cunning. You have some intelligence, but you are lazy. And some loyalty, yet you abandoned your friends when they needed you. I guess that leaves only one choice, Gryffindor!” A sigh of relief issued from Harry’s mouth.
The sorting continued with the only important changes being Luna to Gryffindor. After everyone was sorted, the tables appeared and everyone sat down. Hermione sat at the Slytherin table with hesitance looking around waiting for someone to say something. When she looked back at her plate, her silverware had disappeared. She looked around at the students around her and noticed that everyone had moved away from her, leaving a hole of space surrounding her. Her eyes met those of a steely grey at the other end of the table. Draco gave a slight nod in her direction and turned back to his food and friends. She sat in her own bubble of silence as she ate dinner, and when she finished, she got up and left, venturing out into the castle to the head dorms.
She walked up to the picture of a young man staring at himself in the pond, completely oblivious to her saying the password, “Unity.” As she stared at the painting she wondered if Dumbledore had picked this painting as the head entrance before or after Draco Malfoy was named Head Boy. She cleared her throat and said the password again, this time garnering his attention long enough for him to allow her entrance into the room.
She walked past the couch in front of the fireplace and was heading up the stairs to her room when she heard from behind her, “So, how’s it feel?”
“How does what feel?”
“Having the tables turned on you. Now you’re a Slytherin. Gryffindor’s princess is really a Slytherin. This is too good. It’s gonna go down in the history books. Did you see McGonagall’s face when the hat sorted you? I almost fell over. It was priceless.”
“Yes, it is interesting. Although I wonder how it feels for you?” She asked as she walked back down the stairs, entirely to confidently for Draco’s liking.
“Whatever do you mean?” He asked as he stood up from the couch and turned to look at her approaching form.
“Why the Gryffindor princess, member of the golden trio is really a Slytherin. Who would have thought it? You must think the Slytherin standards are slipping if they are letting the likes of me in. Plus, you have to live with me, I’m betting you are so happy about that.” She said sarcastically, as she watched him clench and unclench his fists that were hanging at the sides of his body.
“Don’t tell me how I feel Granger. You don’t know anything about me.” He growled. She could practically hear his teeth grinding together.
“Whatever.” She said flippantly as she turned around and walked back up the stairs. When she got to the top, she looked back down at him and he was still standing in the same spot, his eyes followed her and there was an indecipherable expression on his face.

Author's Note: Okay, so I'm not entirely sure if I'm happy with this or not. Sorry it's a little short. I'm crazed with finals right now. Let me know what you think, pretty please. Reviews make me happy. :)
