Chapter 2: First Step
"Padfoot, what are you doing here?” Remus asked as he stumbled upon his friend in the bathroom. “I thought you said you weren’t feeling . . .” But he stopped talking as Sirius jumped up upon him entering and was staring at him, a blush creeping across his face.
“I . . . I was thinking . . . I guess.”
Remus smiled and walked over to the sink, “bit dangerous, don’t you think?”
Sirius laughed, but it was a forced laugh, and when Remus turned to look at him, he was still blushing. “Something wrong? You’re all flushed. Are you sick?” Remus walked up to him, intending to put his hand on Sirius’ forehead when he suddenly backed away.
“You know, I think I might be coming down with something. I just don’t feel like going to the nurse.”
Remus scowled at him and crossed his arms. “You know I’m a prefect, I can’t exactly just let you skip class.”
At this, Sirius smirked at him, regaining some of his old composure. “Gonna tell on me?”
Remus rolled his eyes and slapped him lightly over the head. “I should.”
“Should’a, could’a, would’a.”
“But won’t.”
Sirius’ smile faltered as he felt heat creep down his neck and fawn across his back. His head felt light and his knees weak. What the hell, he though before he crumpled to the floor at Remus’ feet.
“Wha! Sirius! Are you okay?! Padfoot?!” Remus dropped to his knees and half caught Sirius before he hit the floor. He tried to balance him on his knees and force his face towards him. He was still very red and there was a glossy sheet of sweat coating his skin. Remus put a hand to his forehead and pulled it back quickly. Sirius was burning up.
He pulled him up and tried to carry him best he could to Madam Pompfrey. But the hospital wing was too far away. He didn’t quite know what to do, so he set Sirius down to lean against the bathroom stall and ran outside. He looked around to see if anyone was coming and almost dropped to his knees in a thankful prayer when he saw Headless Nick floating down the hallway.
“Nick! Nick, come here, please! I need some help.”
He glided over to him quickly. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Sirius. He’s really hot . . . er . . . warm. He’s really warm. He just passed out in the bathroom. I need you to rush down to Madam Pompfrey and tell her what happened. I can’t exactly carry him. He’s not small, you know?”
“Yes, of course. You stay with him, and I’ll send her up straight away." He rushed off and around the corner.
Remus ran back inside the bathroom and bent down beside Sirius. "Man, what's wrong with you? You never get sick." He put his hand to his head again and was surprised to find him cooling down some. He walked over to the sink and took part of his robes, wet them, and rang it out. He went back and settled the damp area on Sirius' forehead.
He dropped the robe and his hand rested gently on Sirius' face. He moved his fingers lightly across his cheeks and nose. He ran them softly over his closed eyes and rested them on his lips.
Remus swallowed audibly and was grateful there was no one around to hear him. He lowered his face closer to Sirius and closed his eyes. One of the most reassuring things about Sirius was his scent. It was un-nameable but unforgettable and always remained the same, for as long as Remus could remember in knowing him.
He bit his lip and brought his face closer, pausing as he felt an intense heat in his ears and he knew he was turning red. It would be wrong to . . . kiss him. He's not awake, and he can't fight back. I can't take advantage of this situation. But what if he never lets me? Why do I want to? He was still quite unable to really understand what it was he felt for Sirius.
He swallowed again and pulled away from him. It was just as well, because only moments later did Nick come floating through the door, followed by an aggravated looking Madam Pompfrey.
"Oh good, you're . . ." but he was cut off before he could finish.
She took out her wand, but before she did anything, she looked down at Remus with a patronizing look on her face. "Why did you send him for me?"
"What? B-b-because I couldn't carry him."
"And have you suddenly forgotten how to use magic? That is why you're at this school, is it not?"
Remus felt the heat come back in full force and looked down in his pocket where his wand rested. "I . . . I didn't think . . ." he said, unbelievably.
She shook her head at him, "well that much is obvious. Wingardium Leviosa." And with that, Sirius was lifted into the air and was taken down to the hospital wing.
Remus stood in the bathroom, knowing he wouldn't be allowed to follow, in shock. Why didn't I think of that? I mean, it's not like I couldn't. I learned that spell my first year here . . .
"Don't worry about it," Nick said, still standing only feet away. "You simply panicked is all. When a close friend passes out at your feet, common sense suddenly isn't so common." And with that, he floated through the door again and left Remus alone in the bathroom.
"Not to mention . . . I almost kissed him," he said quietly to himself. He looked up when he heard the signal for the end of class and jumped up as he realized he was supposed to be in Transfiguration. He ran from the bathroom and down the hallway to get his things.

"Hey, Moony," someone said quietly into his ear later on that night.
He recognized the voice instantly and didn't jump. He turned around and smiled, "how are you feeling? Better?"
Sirius smirked. No redness, no sweat, and no shaking. He was completely back to normal. "Just a bit of Pepper Up Potion and I'm good as new. No worries."
Remus tried not to swallow so loudly, but Sirius was awfully close to his face. Remus looked around the common room. It was getting late and there were only a few people left awake. Peter and James were playing a game of Exploding Snap and paying no attention to them. Alice and Lily were sitting off in a corner talking and laughing. And there were still a few fifth years up, but apart from that, everyone was down. "Glad to hear it," he said, turning back to Sirius with a smile.
Sirius suddenly backed away and put his hand on the back of his neck, looking anywhere but at Remus' face. "So, Pompfrey told me you had a bit of a brain fart earlier. Forgotten how to be a wizard, have we?"
Remus blushed at the humiliation and rolled his eyes. "I'm afraid I have. I will be leaving here tomorrow. I am obviously no longer wanted."
"That's not true," Sirius said quickly, smile gone.
Remus blinked, unsure of what to say next, so he attempted to turn it into a joke. "Well, I know you want me, Padfoot. Everyone knows how irresistible you find me to be."
Sirius forced out and laugh and turned away so that Remus wouldn't see the discomfort in his face. "You know it. Well, I need to go . . . shower. And then I'm gonna hit the sack. Still got class tomorrow. Goodnight."
"Goodnight," Remus said quietly as Sirius walked up the stairs.
Sirius breathed out a huge breath as he walked into the bathroom. He closed his eyes and tried to rid his mind of indecent images. It wasn't fair that Remus was . . . dare he say it . . . cute. Especially when he blushes. He suddenly saw Remus lying beneath him with that same adorable blush across his face.
He felt a sudden twitch in his pants and looked down, not quite believing what he was feeling. He pulled his robe and his clothes off and turned the shower on. He stepped in when it was reasonably hot and reached for the soap. He closed his eyes, remembering again, what Remus looked like with that adorable blush. That led to him thinking about what it would be like to make Remus blush like that. He saw Remus pinned beneath him writhing and moaning his name.
He felt a shifting in between his legs and didn't quite realize his hand was slowly moving down his chest to rest by his naval. He balled his hands into a fist, telling himself to calm down. But to no avail. He considered reaching over and turning the water cold, but Sirius Black never took cold showers . . . ever.
He relaxed his hand and moved it down lower, lightly running his thumb over the tip of his cock before wrapping his hand around his length. He imagined a paler hand grabbing onto him, and attempted to do this slowly. He felt Remus' body moving against his, licking and nibbling on various areas of his body. Saw brown eyes clouded with lust and pink, pouty lips, protruding out, as if begging to be kissed.
He moved faster and moaned as quietly as he could, until he felt his body tense. He felt a sharp heat surging throughout his body before his breath caught, and he released himself all over his hand and stomach, his back arching up and away from the wall.
He held himself there until his heart returned to a steady beat, and his breathing went back to normal. He closed his eyes, but could only see those dark brown eyes filled with a sated desire.
His hand fell to his side as the water washed over him, clearing away the mess on his skin. He didn't trust himself to move as he felt his knees begin to shake. He stood there and waited to return to normal.
He turned off the shower and stepped out, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around his waist. He wiped the mirror and looked at his reflection. He didn't physically appear any different, except that he looked a bit tired, which he was. He picked up his clothes and left the bathroom.
When he walked into the dorm, he was grateful to still find it empty. As he got ready for bed, he thought about what he had just done in the shower before the door opened.
"Feel better?" James asked, a knowing smirk on his face.
Sirius turned to him and glared, "shut it." He pulled his shirt over his head and sat down on his bed, running his hands through his hair. "Could you hear me?" he asked, unable to look James in the face.
"No, so don't worry, but I'm not stupid. You were in there for quite a while."
He sighed and threw himself down on his bed. "Shut up, I don't want to talk about it. G’night."
James sighed and turned the light off for him, looking down at his friend. "Padfoot . . ." he started, but decided against it, "good night." He made his way towards the showers, leaving Sirius alone.
"Thanks, James."
