The Veela\'s Mate

Sirius offered to take Harry back up to Gryffindor tower after they left the hospital wing allowing Severus time to get ready for the feast. They had talked the entire way up to the tower and were now waiting outside for someone to open it for them; apparently someone had changed the password and forgotten to tell Harry… again. Not that the two of them cared, they were just enjoying talking and catching up.

Finally a first year opened the portrait and the two entered. Harry was immensely glad that she had learned to control the attraction abilities when she was the way the boys in the common room were staring at her without being under the affects. She still had a hard time seeing how anyone could find her attractive, which her godfather had found funny. How could she not know?

Sirius just grabbed her hand and began leading her up the stairs to the room she had shared with the other boys so they could pack her things. Tonight she would be sleeping in the set of rooms Remus and Sirius were sharing. When they got to the door she knocked and waited for it to be opened for them. She breathed a sigh of relief when Neville opened it for her and smiled at her friend.

“Good to see you’re finally out of the hospital wing Harry.” Neville said with a smile. “I assume he’s the muscle you brought with you.” He said smiling at Sirius.

“For your information I don’t need to bring muscle to help me pack, only to carry the trunk and I am sure you could have done that.” She said smirking at Neville. She then continued, “He is here to make sure you boys behave.”

Sirius couldn’t hold back his laugh at the two friends bickering. He stopped abruptly when he heard a voice on the other side of the door though.

“Come on Longbottom, we don’t have all day. Lets see what Potter looks like as a girl.” The voice got quiet, but Sirius heard it whisper, “Probably will be the ugliest thing we will ever see.” Sirius thought he recognized the voice to be Ron’s but he wasn’t sure.

It was then Neville opened the door and ushered the two in smirking when the other three boys in the room jaws dropped and they started drooling. He knew his friend was gorgeous and he was glad they made Asses of themselves in front of her. Instantly he went over and began helping Harry pack up her school things and they were just about to fold Dudley’s old clothes when they burst into fire in their hands.

The two wasted no time in dropping the cloths, Neville jumped and Harry let out a small scream, then turned their glares on Sirius who was laughing on Harry’s bed. “You two should have seen your faces.” Sirius laughed never noticing his goddaughter take out her wand. He didn’t notice his hair turn green with silver streaks either.

“Are you ok?” Ron asked coming over to examine the hand that had been holding the cloths that had combusted.

Harry instantly yanked her hand out of his reach; “I’m fine and would appreciate it if you wouldn’t touch me.” She said glaring at the redhead.

“I’ll say your fine.” One of the other boys said and she was about to turn on them when Sirius took the opportunity from her.

“Watch it you. I will not have you talking to my goddaughter like that.” He said glaring at the three boys. It was suddenly clear to them why people thought the man was capable of murder.

“Only pack a few of the cloths as we will get you new ones that fit when we are settled in for the summer.” Sirius said examining his goddaughter’s cloths in disgust. He had gone back to ignoring the boys and glaring at them when they came to close to Harry.

Eventually the three got tired of being glared at and were feeling really uncomfortable so they left the room completely. Seeing they were alone Neville asked a question that had been bothering him. “Harry are you going to keep the name Harry or change it to something more feminine?”

“You know, I hadn’t really though about it.” Harry said looking thoughtfully at the two people in the room.

“You could always go by Harriet.” Sirius suggested and laughed when she wrinkled her nose. “Lily didn’t like it much either when James suggested that name if you were a girl.”

“What name did mum like?” Harry asked taking the chance to learn a little more about her mum.

“Your parents had decided to name you Serenity Jade Potter if you were a girl.” Sirius said.

“While I like the name Jade I am not sure I want to be called Serenity.” Harry said thoughtfully. She really liked the idea of being able to change her name and smiled when she thought of something she liked. “How about Jaden Serenity Potter, Jade for short?”

“I like it.” Sirius said after thinking about it for a few seconds. “Now you just have to find out what Remus and the greasy git think of it.” He never saw the pillow coming at his head until it hit him in the face.

“Don’t call him that.” Jade said glaring at his godfather.

“Fine, but don’t expect me to call him by his first name either.” Sirius said as he pouted. He had forgotten just how potent the Evans glare was.

“I wouldn’t dream of it.” Jade said with a smirk.

Jade was immensely glad when Severus and Remus both said they liked the name she had chosen for herself. After the two had been told they all decided to go to the headmaster and fill out the necessary paperwork for her name to become her legal one. They were shocked when they entered the man’s office only to find Fudge sitting there with Lucius Malfoy.

“Ah good you’re here.” Fudge said as he looked at Remus, Sirius, and whom he thought was Harry Potter. They were all glad that Severus had the presence of mind to stay out of sight in the shadows of the office. “We just heard news of the potions accident and I was here informing the headmaster of the new law.” Fudge said as he waved a rolled up scroll of parchment around.

“What are you talking about?” Jade said worry shining through her voice.

“As a veela you need a mate. Since yours hasn’t been found it is only right that I supply someone with Veela blood in them as your new mate.” Fudge said looking smug as Lucius smirked at her.

Seeing her confusion Lucius went on to explain, “I have dominant male veela blood in me and therefore am able to mate with you.” Lucius was excited about the prospect of getting to bed the beautiful girl in front of him.

“What about your wife?” Jade asked getting really scared.

Severus was at his wits end trying to hold back from punching his once best friend.

“A male veela is allowed to have more than one mate if his mates are both veela.” He said smirking at the frightened girl. She was beautiful when she was scared.

“That won’t be necessary as I have said before. Harry has found her mate and he has accepted her.” Albus said getting angry when he saw the blond trying to scare her.

“No need to lie to us Dumbledore, we will be back in an hour. Make sure she is ready to go as Lucius will be taking her back to his manor with him.” Fudge said as he and the blond stood to leave. It wasn’t until they were gone that Severus came out from where he had been hiding.

“Albus there has to be something we can do.” He said as he pulled Jade to him. He could feel how tense she was, but also that she was relaxing as he held her.

“The only way that might stop this new law was if she was already bound to someone.” Albus said, saddened, as he knew she wasn’t ready to take that step.

“Well that is just what we are going to have to do. Just perform the bonding on her and Sev, I mean they were going to do it in a couple of months anyways.” Came Steven’s voice from the doorway. He had seen the minister and Malfoy leaving the office when he was looking for his brother and decided to check there. He ended up hearing most of was Albus had to say.

“No, I won’t force her into it.” Severus said with conviction. He loved her with his whole being, but wouldn’t force her into something she didn’t want or wasn’t ready for.

“No, I agree with Steven. It’s not like we have to consummate it right away.” Jade said as she looked up at the potions master. She felt better when he smiled down at her and she buried her face back in his chest liking the feeling of being protected.

“You will not have to consummate it right away no, but it is also possible that it might not work.” Albus said with a sad twinkle in his eye. “If the veela in you thinks Lucius will be a better match then it will automatically cancel the bond with Severus and create one with Lucius.”

“It won’t.” Jade said with conviction. They talked it over a little as Steven went to go get something for Severus from his rooms and when he returned with Jade’s friends the bonding took place.

Jade was shocked to find that Severus had picked out their bonding rings already and was pleased with the ring he had chosen for her. The bands of the two bonding rings were white gold with Celtic symbols on it and hers matched the 1-karat round diamond engagement ring he had picked out for her. He had been planning on giving it to her right before she left on the train the next day.

The ceremony began and with Steven and Draco as Sev’s witnesses and Pansy and Luna as Jade’s they were married before the hour was up. Though they all thought it best if the marriage was kept a secret for a while so people wouldn’t accuse Severus of playing favorites, which sent all the teens into hysterics. Didn’t they realize he already played favorites?

They filed the necessary paper work which was promptly sent off to the ministry where one on the order members (Kingsley) was waiting for it, and they decided Neville would be the one to hide their copy of it as no one would think he would have it.

Lucius returned exactly one hour later with Fudge and smirked when he saw the nervous girl playing with a chain that hung round her neck. What ever was on the chain was hidden under her shirt, but he would get to see what it was as soon as he got her home. He didn’t care if she didn’t want this, he would enjoy it even more if he had to take her by force.

Jade was exceedingly nervous. She couldn’t help but worry that the veela in her would chose Lucius over Sev and she would lose her love for real this time. She wished Severus could be here waiting with her, but they thought it best if he went to the feast and she would find him later. She had to admit that having her wedding and engagement rings around her neck was somewhat comforting and she couldn’t wait for this to be done with.

“Now Miss. Potter I need you to stand next to Lucius and join your right hand with his.” When she had done that he tied their wrists together and began to chant in Latin. When he was finished he and Lucius were shock when the cord around their wrists instead of sinking into their skin fell to the ground. The only ones in the room who knew the reasoning for this were Sirius, Remus, Albus, and Jade and they couldn’t help the happiness that seemed to flow off them at the sight.

“I perhaps should have told you that while you were gone Miss. Potter’s mate decided to stake his claim on her and ordered that they be bound. It seems her veela side prefers him to you Mr. Malfoy. Now if you’ll excuse us we have a feast to be getting to.” Albus said as he offered his arm for the only girl in the room to take. With that he escorted the three Gryffindores from the room and down to the feast, leaving behind two furious ministry officials.

Severus looked up when he heard the doors to the great hall open and couldn’t hold back a relieved sigh when he saw his wife walk in. He saw her give a slight nod and a wink and knew she was still his. He suddenly felt overwhelmed with how happy that made him. It was then he got a good look at Black and found he couldn’t hold back a small chuckle. He just wondered how long it would take the mutt to realize his hair had changed.
