Chapter 18
Author’s Note: Hermione is going to be a bit dark. This doesn’t follow with OTP or HBP. Sirius Black is alive and in my story Severus is a pure blood. Just so you know.
Disclaimer: I don’t own anything you recognize. So please don’t sue.
Summery: It’s been six years since Hermione left Hogwarts. She’s been doing a secret mission for the Order. Suddenly she and Severus are thrown together. Will they be able to work together or will they end up killing each other? R/R
Our Paths Cross Again
Chapter 18
The pair didn’t have to wait long for the memory to begin. Severus watched as Hermione came walking past them. She stopped and peered around a tree. Hermione and Severus walked up to the memory Hermione. Before them were three Death Eaters. They were just cleaning up from torturing and killing and innocent girl.
“Going somewhere boys?” Memory Hermione asked.
“Well, well. Look here boys. Another plaything.” a Death Eater said.
Memory Hermione just stood still. The three Death Eaters walked over to her. She began smiling. An evil smile that made Severus’s blood nearly freeze in his veins. Beside him, the real Hermione turned away. Almost as if she was ashamed of what was about to happen.
One of the Death Eaters rushed at Hermione. She waved her hand. Suddenly the Death Eater froze. Bubbles began forming over his skin. He started screaming as he ripped the robes from his body. All over him were bubbles. They began growing bigger and bigger. His screams echoing throughout the woods. Finally it happened. As one the bubbles exploded.
The Death Eater burst into a thousand tiny pieces. Blood and bits of skin flying everywhere. The two remaining Death Eaters stood in shock. Hermione however didn’t hesitate. She pulled out her wand. She put one in a full body bind while yelled the cutting curse at the other.
As the Death Eater laying dying, Hermione kept repeating the spell. Within minutes he was nothing but a heap of skin. All the blood that was in his body now lay in a pool on the ground. She then turned and faced the remaining Death Eater.
“So, what to do with you? Hmmm.” Memory Hermione mused as she paced in front of him.
Severus could see the fear in his eyes. He was in shock himself. He never expected to see Hermione using such tactics. Finally the memory Hermione stopped pacing and looked down at the Death Eater. This time, she simply yelled the killing curse.
The memory shifted. Severus now found himself and Hermione at the moor outside the cottage. She was once again fighting. But only one Death Eater this time. They were dueling with their wands. Hermione had a cut across her cheek, a bad cut on her left arm as well as one on her right leg. The Death Eater wasn’t without his wounds either. His left arms was bleeding profusely, both of his legs were bleeding and he had a cut over his right shoulder.
“This is boring me. Sectumsempra.” Hermione hissed.
The Death Eater fell to the grass gagging as he began drowning in his own blood. Hermione simply turned her back and headed back for the cottage to patch herself up. Severus turned to the real Hermione. She had fallen to her knees and had her face buried in her hands. Severus knelt beside her and gathered her into his arms.
“I’ve seen enough. Let’s return home Hermione. You don’t need to show me anymore.” Severus said gently.
Hermione nodded. In a split second they found themselves back in her sitting room. Severus was still holding her when suddenly she jumped away from him. Before he could say anything, she ran for her room, slammed the door and locked and warded it. Severus quickly ran for the door.
“Hermione open up. Please. We need to talk.” he said.
All he heard was Hermione crying. He withdrew his wand and set to work with removing the wards and unlocking the door. Ten minutes later he walked in and closed the door behind him. He found Hermione sprawled across her bed crying. Severus walked over and sat on the edge of the bed.
“Go away.” she sobbed.
“I’m not leaving Hermione. Not till we talk.” he said.
“How can you even look at me? Did you do things as bad as what I did when you were a Death Eater?” she asked.
“No.” he answered.
“Then why are you here? How could you even want t be near a blood thirsty killer?” she sobbed.
Severus sighed. He moved closer to her and pulled her up and onto his lap. Hermione struggled against him, but he wouldn’t let her go. Finally she stopped fighting and let go. She clung to him and began crying even harder. Severus simply stroked her hair and began rocking her back and forth, almost as if she were a toddler.
“You never answered my question.” she whispered.
“I’m here with you because I want to be. Hermione, talk to me. What were you expecting when you showed me those memories?” he asked.
“I…I expected you…to run away. I’m a horrible person Severus. I don’t understand why you’re even still here?” she answered.
“It’s going to take more than some memories of things you’ve done in your past to scare me away. I can help you Hermione. You also have my word that no one will know about this. Except you and I. Unless you say otherwise.” Severus said as he made her look into his eyes.
Hermione nodded. Severus continued to hold her. Finally Hermione gave into the exhaustion that suddenly washed over her. When Severus looked down he saw that she was sound asleep. He kicked off his shoes, eased them onto the bed, and using his wand he covered them with the bed covers.
“Just rest love. I’ll be here when you wake up.” he whispered.
Slowly he drifted off to sleep as well. Hermione snuggled closer and Severus held her just a little tighter. The two slept. Just drawing on the love of one another as they slept.
