“Minerva, where’s Harry?” Sirius asked after ducking into the staff\'s loungeroom to find someone that could tell him where Harry is.
Minerva looked shocked. “S-Sirius?”
“Damn, I forgot that I’ve been gone for so long. Yes, it’s me. How have you been?”
“Sirius, you’re not even going to tell me how you got back? All you can say is, ‘Damn, I forgot that I’ve been gone for so long’?”
“Lialani,” was his simple answer.
“Ah, the last of her powers! But Harry’s in the hospital wing.”
“Why?!” The last thing he expected was Harry in the hospital wing. Then again, Harry was always trying to do the heroic thing…“Wait a minute, he didn’t try to save anyone or something like that?”
“I don’t know why he’s in there.”
“Well, don’t tell anyone I’m back. I’m going to see Harry.”
“Alright. He’ll be very happy to see you!”
Sirius nodded and made his way up to the hospital wing. He opened the door slowly, not wanting to scare anyone. When it was half-open, he poked his head inside. He spotted Harry in a bed at the far end of the room. He crept into the room almost soundlessly, making sure to close the door as softly as he could.
“Who’s there?” Harry called out. He had heard the door close despite Sirius’ efforts.
No answer. Then, right next to his bed, a whisper.
“Harry, it’s Sirius.”
“Sirius?” Harry yelled incredulously.
“Shhhhh!” Sirius shushed him, putting a finger to his lips. “I don’t want anyone to know that I’m here.”
Harry nodded. “But where have you been all this time? If you were alive, why didn’t you come back? Why did you stay away for so long? Even though you knew that it was killing me!” The original happiness melted away into anger.
“Harry, I wasn’t alive. I was in the spirit realm. Basically, I really was dead. But I’m back, and I need to talk to you about something.”
“What?”
“That night wasn’t your fault.”
Harry started. How did Sirius know that it had been bugging him all this time? “Yes, it was! If I hadn’t tried to save you, then no one would’ve had to save me!”
“That’s not true, Harry. It was my fault. If you had never been fooled into thinking that I was in danger, you never would have tried to save me and it never would have happened.”
Something struck Harry during Sirius’ ‘confession’. “But, Sirius, that’s basically saying that it’s your fault that I care about you.”
“But that’s not what I meant,” Sirius protested.
“I know.” Harry reached out and pulled Sirius into an embrace. They hugged tightly for a minute, and then Sirius released Harry.
“Harry, I’ve got to see Albus. I don’t know what to do now that I’m really back,” Sirius said and strode to the door, completely forgetting that he was still a wanted man and there were other students in the infirmary.
Whispers broke out.
“Is that Sirius Black?”
“It can’t be, the Ministry said that he was dead!”
“But he’s standing right there!”
“You’re sick, maybe it’s an illusion.”
“If it’s an illusion then why do you see it too?”
Both voices shut up. Sirius just ignored them and went to the door. He gave Harry a small wave and left.
Harry stared at the door, thoughts rushing through his head. It surprised him that Sirius would look at what happened with that kind of perspective. Then again, he reasoned, not everyone had his kind of outlook on it. They weren’t the ones going through all that he was.
“Lupin! He would love to know!” Harry cried aloud. “Madam Pomfrey!”
“Yes, Mr. Potter?” Poppy asked, coming out of her office.
“Can I have some parchment?”
“What ever for?”
“I want to write a letter.”
“Alright. To who?”
“Why d’you want to know?”
“No need to be smart, Mr. Potter, I was just wondering,” Poppy replied and went to get a piece of parchment for him.
When she came back with it, she pulled the wheeled bed table over to him and handed him a quill. He thanked her and waited until she was gone to start the letter.
Dear Professor Lupin,
Snuffles is back. He came to see me a few minutes ago. Wait, don’t tell him that I told you, he’ll get mad because I’m not supposed to tell anyone that he’s back. I just thought that you should know since you guys are best friends.
Yours truly,
Harry
He sealed the parchment with a tricky little charm Hermione had taught him; it would keep anyone but whoever the letter was addressed to from opening it. He looked around and was about to put it on his nightstand when, deciding against it, he stuffed it under his pillow. He would send it that night.
----------
Severus opened his eyes, startled, and looked around wonderingly. Did he just hear Lialani’s voice? Cocking his head, he listened more closely, and, to his happiness, her sweet voice drifted into the bathroom, calling out his name. He stood up, grabbed a towel off the nearby rack, and wrapped it snugly around his waist. Fleetingly, he wondered how she managed to get so far into his quarters but brushed the question aside, figuring he would find out the answer later. For now, he was too eager to see her to worry about that.
“Professor Snape?” her voice was getting closer.
“In here!” he called from the next room over, startling her with the loudness of his voice.
She ran into the room, face lighting up as her eyes settled on him. A faint blush tinted her cheeks as she realized what he was wearing but she tried to hide her embarrassment.
“You’re back!” he cried, sweeping her up in a bone crushing hug and spinning hrounround a few times, just as her father had.
“Mm-hmm,” she managed as her hair whipped around her face.
He put her down gently; releasing her and patting his hips to make sure his towel hadn’t fallen. To his humiliation, it had. She looked down to see what he was doing with his hands but her eyes snapped back up as she saw what had happened. Suddenly she giggled. Then she chuckled and finally she burst into laughter.
“Just what is so funny, hmm?” he asked, a scowl settling on his features.
“You’re…always so proud and stiff…now you’re standing…completely nude with…a face as red as a tomato,” she choked out, gasping for breath and clutching her side.
“You think that’s funny, do you?” he asked softly, his tone striking her as completely seductive.
The laughter disappeared from her face and she straightened up. The hilariousness of the situation had suddenly morphed into sexiness.
Quickly crossing the short distance between them, he crushed her mouth under his and invaded her mouth with his tongue. The warm, sweeping strokes of his tongue were enough to make her bones disintegrate. She moaned, the noise sending vibrations through his mouth and down to his firming prick. She felt the poke of it and giggled seductively, once again launching the vibrations. He put his hands around her waist and lifted her up, carrying her into his bedroom through the bathroom, where his tub was still full of water. Little did he know that Albus was still standing in the sitting room, a small grin on his face as he heard the bedsprings protest at the weight that collapsed on them.
‘I must ask Poppy if the young girl has been put on birth control yet,’ he thought distractedly as he let himself out.
Back in the bedroom, Lialani had little time to admire the four-poster bed with black silk sheets and a deep red comforter. She was too busy helping Severus remove her hindersome clothing. She broke the kiss, instead choosing to plant kisses on his neck and collarbone as he worked on her Muggle-bought designer flare jeans.
“Why would you buy these stupid clothes?” he muttered wildly.
“Well, they’re really nice jeans, not to mention the height of fashion,” she murmured in response, never ceasing in her kissing.
“Where? Uranus?” he snorted derisively, finally pulling them down and tossing them over his shoulder.
She didn’t answer, simply reached down to unclasp the jeweled butterfly catch on her thong. She had a strange feeling that Severus would have no idea what to do with that particular item of apparel. She was right.
“What was that?”
“Never mind it.” Smiling seductively, she pulled him down on top of her, discarding the underwear. He smiled back, and the smile sent a shiver through her. She had never seen him smile like that before and it threw her off-guard for a minute. Her balance was regained quickly, though, as Severus began to kiss and lick his way down her top half. He paused at each breast to nip and suck the taut nipple. Her back arched, provoking a soft laugh from Severus. When she straightened out again, her hands relinquished the iron like grip they had on the sheets and grabbed his hair. Small, gentle pulls brought his head up to meet hers. She kissed him hard, her tongue invading his mouth. He responded eagerly, softly biting her lower lip. She moaned, the noise sending welcome vibrations through his body and down to his hard cock as they had done earlier. His eyes closed and a soft groan escaped his lips, only to be swallowed by Lialani’s mouth. Quickly, as though he couldn’t wait anymore, he positioned himself right over her entrance. Slowly, painstakingly slowly, he slid into the moist, warm heat of her core. Her eyelids fluttered shut. A soft contented mewl from Lialani was all that could be heard for about a minute, and then a symphony of bedsprings echoed into the air.
His thrusts were slow and luxurious, leisurely stroking them to the height of their shared passion. As they reached their point, there was no screaming or yelling. He simply kept going, trying to ride the wave as long as possible.
When it finally ended, he flopped on the bed next to her, pulled the blanket tightly up around them, and each fell into a long, deep, peaceful slumber.
Hours later, Lialani woke, stretching her arms and snuggling deeper into the warm, cozy haven Severus’ arms provided. There was a soft kiss on her the top of her head and she felt his arms squeeze her.
“Are you awake?” he asked softly.
“Mm-hmm,” she murmured. “What time is it?”
“You’ll have to let me get up to find out.”
She fussed playfully for a minute, but gave in when a flicker of irritation passed over Severus’ face. When he climbed out of bed, she sat up, drawing the blanket around her chest protectively. A glance out the windows confirmed what she had been thinking since she awoke: it was nighttime.
“You should get to your dormitory. It’s ten-thirty,” Severus said, rummaging around in his dresser for a pair of pyjamas.
She nodded and climbed out of bed, keeping the blanket wrapped snugly around her body. He snickered when he noticed this.
“There’s no need for modesty. I’ve seen everything already. Twice, in fact,” he said. A second later he had to duck to avoid a jokingly thrown pillow that was aimed for his head.
“Where’s my underwear?” she asked, looking around the room.
“You mean this?” Severus held up her neon purple thong between thumb and forefinger.
“Yes, that!” She snatched it away and tucked it protectively under her arm. Scooping her shirt off the floor, she stuffed that under there as well. Her pants and bra followed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked curiously as she glanced around the room, clearly looking for something.
“Can I use the loo?”
“Of course, it’s right here,” he replied and strode to the door to open it for her. She smiled in thanks as she passed and shut the door behind her.
When the door was safely shut behind her, she glanced around. A giggle escaped when she noticed his trousers and boxers sitting carelessly on the floor near the still-full bathtub. Another probing glance revealed a toilet, which was something she desperately needed at the moment.
Outside, now fully clothed in his pyjamas, Severus threw a pinch of floo powder into his fireplace. The small, dwindling fire quickly rose into an emerald green roaring vortex of bright and warm flames.
“Albus Dumbledore’s office!” he shouted.
Albus jumped at the shout but calmed when he saw Severus’ heads in the flames.
“Severus! How did you know I’d be here?” he asked.
“Just a lucky guess,” Severus replied. “What are you doing?”
“I couldn’t sleep so I came down here to read. Why? Do you need something?”
“Actually, I was wondering if you needed to talk to Miss Turowsky at all before I send her to her dormitory for the night.”
“Yes, I do, as a matter of fact. Just send her up when she’s ready.”
Severus nodded and pulled out of the fire. It died down to a small flicker among the black charred logs. When he stood up and turned around, he found a completely different young girl looking back at him from the doorway of the bathroom.
For one, she was fully clothed. Her eyes were no longer brightly outlined in blue eyeliner but clean and sleepy. The blonde hair that had tickled him senselessly while he was waiting for her to wake up was pulled back into a tight ponytail on the top of her head. Her face looked lighter and her ears lacked the hoops that had previously adorned them.
“The Headmaster wishes to speak to you,” he said, and barely suppressed a chuckle when she came out of the bathroom slowly, dragging the bedspread behind her. “I’ll take that.” He reached out to take the comforter and tossed it on the bed.
“Now?” she asked wearily, stifling a yawn.
Severus nodded and tossed the glittering dust into the now empty hearth. The fire flared up again.
“Headmaster’s office!” he yelled and pushed Lialani in. Within a second, she was gone.
“Hello, child,” Albus greeted her warmly as she stumbled into his office.
She smiled weakly in response and sat down in a chair in front of his desk.
“How are you feeling?” he asked gently.
“Tired,” she replied instantly, and he could tell. Her eyes blinked sleepily at him from across the desk.
“You’ve had a busy day, no doubt.”
Her face flushed faintly and she squirmed embarrassedly in her seat.
“But for now we need to discuss where you will be living. For safety reasons, the hospital wing is the best place. However, I don’t like the idea of you spending day and night there. You are not the kind of girl that will flourish in a controlled environment. Therefore, you will spend two weeks in the infirmary. During that time, each of your professors will come by every day after classes to tutor you so you can catch up. And possibly even remember previous spells.”
She nodded, and it was obvious that she was struggling to keep her eyes open. Even opening them partly seemed to be a little much to ask of her.
“Alright, child, you can go down to the hospital wing. Good night, Miss Turowsky, and sweet dreams,” he called as she shut the door.
As she turned away from the door, a face suddenly loomed into her vision. She staggered back into the door and fell on her rump when it opened.
“Miss Granger, what are you doing out? It’s passed curfew and you know that,” Albus scolded.
“I’m sorry, Professor, but I wanted to see if Lialani was really home,” Hermione replied, reaching down to help Lialani up.
“How did you know there would be a chance that she was?”
“I heard Malfoy spreading it around that he had seen her in the entrance hallway after dinner so I went around and looked in the most promising places as soon as everyone in the Gryffindor was sleeping. She wasn’t in the dormitory, Professor McGonagall wouldn’t tell me anything, Professor Snape was no where to be found, and she wasn’t in the infirmary. This was the last place I figured she could be.”
“Excellent deducing skills, Miss Granger, but I will have to take ten points from Gryffindor for your wandering around the hallways after curfew. Now, back to bed!” he commanded, pointing down the hallway.
“Oh, but, Professor, can I bring her back to the dormitory with me?” she pleaded.
“She’s going to the infirmary.”
“Can I bring her there?”
“I will bring her. She is exhausted and does not have the energy to answer the questions you will no doubt ask her.” Albus’ tone was final.
“Yes, Professor. I’ll see you tomorrow, Lialani, since it’s Saturday,” Hermione said and headed down the hall.
“Come on, Miss Turowsky, to bed,” Albus said, turning to her but was surprised to find that the poor girl had fallen asleep standing up. He lifted her up and carried her to the infirmary and a nice warm bed.
The door was slightly open so Albus nudged it open with his foot.
“Madam Pomfrey, she’s here!” he called, and was amused when several heads appeared.
“Miss Turowsky?” asked Poppy as she came out of her office.
“Yes. She’s asleep so I’ll put her down on a bed.” Albus placed her down on a nearby bed and tucked her in. “Good night, Poppy.”
“Good night, Albus,” Poppy replied as she headed back to her office.
Her door had no sooner closed than the infirmary door opened back up. Chocolate locks tumbled past the edge of the door and played across a face as it peered in.
“Harry?” Hermione whispered.
“Over here,” he replied.
She snaked in the doorway and left it open. Quickly she scurried to his bedside.
“What do you need?” she asked.
“I need you to give this letter to Lupin for me,” he replied and pulled the letter out from under his pillow.
“No problem, him and McGonagall are out on hall duty tonight so I’ll give it to him now.” She took the letter and stuffed it down the front of her bathrobe. “I just have to give you something first.”
“What?”
Hermione leaned forward and pressed her lips against Harry’s mouth. Before she could be sure of his reaction, she ran for the door.
“Good night, Harry,” she called softly into the dark room and closed the door gently behind her.
She kept running until she rounded a corner and ran into something rather solid. Staggering back, she lost her balance and landed on her butt. Looking up, she was happy to see that it was Lupin and not McGonagall as she had thought.
“Oh, Professor, I have something for you!” she exclaimed and plunged a hand down her robe.
“Um, Miss Granger, what is it?” he asked suspiciously.
“Just a letter,” she giggled, pulling it out. She handed it to him and started to walk away when he called her back.
“This is from Harry?” he asked, eyes slightly clouded over.
Hermione nodded. ‘What’s wrong?’ she wondered.
“Just checking,” he said and tucked the letter in one of his pockets. “One more question, Miss Granger.”
“Yes?”
“Is there any particular reason why you put things down the front of your shirt instead of in your pocket?”
“Reflex habit from having Umbridge as a teacher last year.”
Remus chuckled and shook his head. “Get to your common room now, Miss Granger.”
She nodded and started down the hallway. Remus watched as she turned the corner and disappeared from view. As soon as she had, he sprinted up the staircase and down the hall to the infirmary.
Harry watched as the door opened and he found himself hoping that it was Hermione. Oddly enough, when he realized it was Lupin, he was disappointed.
“Mr. Potter?” he called softly into the dark room.
“Here.” The reply floated to him from the back of the room and Remus followed it.
“Harry, do you know where Sirius went?” Remus whispered.
“He said he was going to talk to the Headmaster,” Harry replied, keeping his voice low.
“That’s all I needed to know,” Remus said. “Thank you for telling me.”
Harry nodded and watched him leave. As the door closed, he leaned back into his pillow and shut his eyes, going over what had happened in the past hour.
First, Sirius showed up after a year and offered no explanation except that the night when he died was not Harry’s fault. Then, dashed away to Dumbledore. Harry felt as though Sirius though was wasn’t important anymore. And Sirius had always made time for him. Sirius never left him out in the cold. But now, just when Harry needed him the most, he ran to Dumbledore just to find out how he had gotten back. ‘Does that even matter? Shouldn’t it matter that he’s back, never mind how?’ Harry wondered. Even as he continued to reflect on this, he felt his thoughts drift away into the other big thing that had happened to him and was slightly bothering him.
Hermione had kissed him. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to do it again. This confused him. He always thought that he had liked Lialani but when he discovered that she had a baby with Snape, it had repulsed him and ever since then his gaze didn’t hold the special warmth that he had always reserved just for her. But to like Hermione? He had always seen her as a sister to him. In his mind’s eye, he saw that image melting away to reveal a young, pretty, bushy haired girl that he found himself falling for.
