Eureka!
A/N: I know, I know!! It's been forever since I've update. Well, not forever, but a very long time. Blame it on school and lack of motivation. I seriously hope not to take this long next time to update, and the story will be finished. I promise. Also, I put updates in my livejournal, so if you want to know where I'm at in updating and such, you can find it at: http://www.livejournal.com/users/cassie_snape/ . Also, please review!!!
Chapter Nineteen: Eureka!
Hermione sighed as she placed the two mice into the shoe box. They had just finished testing the next batch of the potion, and it still did not work. Severus was busy looking over their notes, trying to see where they could have gone wrong in their calculations while she was going to take these two mice and give them a nice little burial outside. “I’ll be back in a while,” she stated as she looked over to Severus who was bent over the parchments almost to the point where his nose was touching the paper. He just grunted a response, and she shrugged.
After putting on her cloak and gloves, she left the dungeon with the small box in her gloved-hands. She went upstairs and then outside, pulling her cloak closer around her in the late December air. She found a spot at the edge of the gloomy Forbidden Forest and took out of her wand, casting a spell to dig a small hole. Then, she buried the shoe box, feeling that the mice deserved at least this much for giving their lives in pursuit of their research.
She was about to leave when she spotted Hagrid out. She waved to him. “Hello, Hagrid,” she said as she wrapped her arms around herself to ward off the cold.
“’Ello, Hermione. Potion still not working?” Hagrid asked as he noticed that she was burying a box.
“Not yet, but we’ll get it soon,” she said, trying to be optimistic, although it was getting harder.
He noticed that she was cold. “Want to come in for some tea?” he asked her.
She considered it briefly, but she knew that she should get back to work. Plus, Hagrid didn’t make the best tea. “Perhaps another time, Hagrid. I have to get back to working on the potion.”
He nodded. “Then, we’ll do it another time.” He waved bye to her and then went back to taking care some of his creatures.
She waved to him and went back inside. She took off her gloves and brushed off a bit of snow that was in her hair while walking down to the dungeons. She opened the door and looked at Severus still in the same position. “Find anything yet?” she asked as she put her cloak up.
“Not yet,” Severus stated in a slightly irritated tone as he turned the piece of parchment, which just happened to be the last one. He finished reading the last page and stood up quickly, hitting the table with his fist and causing the various items on the table to jostle. “This is impossible! We’ll never come up with the solution!” He was getting completely frustrated with this, especially the fact that Dumbledore said that it was incredibly urgent.
She could tell that he was frustrated. She went over and stood beside of him. “We will do it, Severus. We just have to think about it and give it some time.”
He turned quickly on her. “We don’t have any more time, Hermione,” he spat out.
She took a slight step back from him. “Severus, perhaps you should go and sit and relax a bit. I’ll take a look over things. Please.” She hesitantly touched his arm. e jee jerked his arm away from her. “We both need to keep working,” he stated coldly as he turned and then went back to his books to find out what else they could try.
She sighed, knowing that he was just upset about the potion. She pulled up a stool and sat on it, beginning to look at their notes herself. She began to think about how they needed nti-nti-hexing potion that would protect against Avada Kedavra. It truly was beginning to look like a hopeless task. She was aboo goo go over to Severus dis discuss with him that maybe they should just call it quits and tell Dumbledore that they were sorry that they couldn’t figure out how to create this new potion.
Then something dawned within her. She quickly grabbed a quill and began to write furiously on a clean sheet of parchment. She then paused after she was a sheet into it, and then her eyes brightened and she continued to write again. After a few more minutes, she stopped writing and began to look over what she had written. She didn’t know why they didn’t think of using an anti-hexing potion with a protection potion, but they just had to make it strong enough to work against the killing curse, and she thought that she had finally gotten it. Quickly, she grabbed the parchments and went to where Severus was grumbling to himself about the potion. “I think I have the answer,” she said as she thrust taperapers under his nose.
Severus looked at her and her general enthusiasm. He seriously doubted that she had it, but he took the papers and began to read silently. He read through it once and then read through it again. “This…this is brilliant,” he stated as he continued to read through it again. “It just might work.” He stood up. “We must begin working on it right away.” He knew that at the rate that it would take tto mto make this potion that it would fall right on the day that Lucius Malfoy was to be released from Azkaban.
She grinned and nodded. “Yes, let’s getting working on it.”
They both began to work on the new potion that Hermione had created with all their work before. It took a couple of hours, but they finally finished all they could for the new potion that was simmering.
Hermione sighed and brushed a piece of hair away from her face. “I really think this will work this time.”
Severus nodded. “I agree. If it doesn’t work, then we have nothing for Dumbledore.” He went over to her and wrapped his arms around her. He knew that he had been relatively hard to deal with these last few days since Christmas. “It’s not too long before New Year’s. How about we celebrate?”
She grinned. “I really like that idea,” she said as she leaned up on her toes and kissed him.
He scooped her up in his arms and took her into his bedroom. He placed her gently on the bed and looked at her, loving how her hair fanned around her. He then took off his outer robes and climbed onto the bed, straddling her body. “You are a brilliant witch for a know-it-all.” He smirked and began to take off her clothing.
She gave him a rather indignant look and slapped his arm lightly. She then smiled, knowing that that was a compliment, although she still didn’t like him calling her a know-it-all. She began to reach for her wand to rid themtheitheir clothing.
He grabbed her wrists and took her wand from her, placing it on the nightstand. He then kissed her deeply as he released her wrists and continued to take off her clothes. He tossed them onto the floor as his lips and tongue began to ravish her body as he moved down it, ridding her of all her clothing and leaving her naked and vulnerable beneath him. He spread her legs, breathing in her musky scent as he parted her sex lips with his tongue, loving how she arched off the bed when he did that. He then began to lick and suck on her, making sure to flick his tongue against her clit. He dipped a long, thin finger inside, relishing in her hot moisture as he continued to lap at her juices. It didn’t take long for her to be moaning and calling his name. He smirked against her sex lips and sucked on her even harder as she climaxed. Then, he kissed up her body, paying special attention to her hardened nipples while she began to undress him.
He was becoming impatient again, and with a wave of his hand, his clothes were on the ground beside of hers. He grabbed her wrists, placing them above her head as he looked deeply into her eyes. He honestly didn’t know what he would do without her now. She was like a drug that he just had to keep having in more and more doses. “My brilliant witch,” he murmured as he plunged his hard cock deep inside of her pussy.
She cried out with pleasure when he finally entered her. She brought her legs up, locking them around his waist as he continued to thrust deep inside of her. She couldn’t move her arms as he was holding them above her head, but she did lean up and captured his lips in a fiercely passionate kiss as their tongues mimicked their lower bodies.
He continued to pound relentlessly into her as he let go of her wrists and grabbed her legs, raising them higher in the air. They had had so many frustrations with the potion, and it was good to finally have them gone for now as they had a likely solution to the problem. He then felt his own orgasm rise inside of him, and he groaned loudly as he climaxed.
After he finished, he collapsed on her and then rolled off while pulling her close to him. He felt very lucky at the moment, especially as the clock sounded twelve.
“Happy New Year, Severus,” she said as she rested her head against his chest, smiling.
“You too, Hermione.” He actually thought that this year might be happy for once. He took his hand and lifted her chin up, kissing her on the lips.
She snuggled against him. She had him. The potion would be ready in time, if it worked. Things were looking up in her life. Despite having her doubts at times, she desired to work things out and be happy, and she truly was happy.
