I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Chapter 17
Author’s Note: Hermione is going to be a bit dark. This doesn’t follow with OTP or HBP. Sirius Black is alive and in my story Severus is a pure blood. Just so you know.
Disclaimer: I don’t own anything you recognize. So please don’t sue.
Summery: It’s been six years since Hermione left Hogwarts. She’s been doing a secret mission for the Order. Suddenly she and Severus are thrown together. Will they be able to work together or will they end up killing each other? R/R
Our Paths Cross Again
Chapter 17
It was two weeks later. Hermione was now up and around. When she woke up, Minerva came to see her and began crying and apologizing for the things she had said. Hermione simply told Minerva that it was okay. She also told her former head of house that she was who she was and that was that.
Hermione was now sitting on a fallen log at the edge of the lake. It was now February. Valentines was a week away. She had never been big on the holiday, and even though she and Severus were together, she still didn’t care much for the holiday.
“Sickle for your thoughts.” Sirius said as he walked up.
“Hey Sirius. Just thinking.” Hermione replied.
“About what?” he asked as he sat beside her.
“About whether or not to tell and show Severus everything I’ve done in the past six years.” she answered.
“What are you afraid of?” he questioned.
“I’m afraid that he will be disgusted. Sirius, you saw what I did to those five Death Eaters. Believe me, I’ve done worse. I just finally allowed myself to open up to him and I don’t want to run him off.” She sighed.
“Hermione, listen to me. Snape won’t do that. As much as I hate that greasy bastard, he makes you happy. You know him and I hate each other and will until our dying day. You should also know that it pains me to defend him. On anything.” Sirius said.
“So what do I do? I mean you’ve known him longer than I. The things I want to show him are as bad, if not worse than what the Death Eaters do.” Hermione asked.
“Look, I think you should just show him. At least you’re being honest. If he can’t accept that, then the bastard doesn’t deserve you.” Sirius answered.
Hermione nodded. Sirius patted her shoulder and walked off toward the front gates. Sirius was right. She needed him to see. Needed him to understand why she was the way she was. She took a deep breath and returned to the castle.
That night Severus noticed Hermione was absent from dinner. He hadn’t seen her all day. He finished his meal and made his way to her rooms. He knocked. The door opened and he walked in. He found Hermione sitting in a chair before a roaring fire.
“You weren’t at dinner.” he said.
“I decided to eat in. Severus, sit down.” she replied.
Severus did as she said. She got up from the chair, grabbed a pensive from her desk, sat it on the coffee table and sat beside him. Severus had an idea about what was in the pensive, but didn’t want to jump to conclusions.
“I’ve been thinking about this ever since I awoke in the infirmary. I decided, if I’m ever going to be honest with you, you need to see this. I’m giving you the chance to back out. These memories are not pleasant. They are very gruesome. This is your last chance Severus.” she explained as she stared into his midnight eyes.
“If I’m going to understand you or try to help you heal from your past I need to understand what caused it.” he said.
Hermione nodded. Severus took her hand gently in his. Hermione gave him a weak smile. She took a deep breath and nodded. The two leaned over the pensive. Instantly they were falling through the memories. The two soon found themselves standing outside in a forest.
“I hope you have an iron stomach.” Hermione said.
