Defend it with our lives

New day, new chapter. The showdown at the ministry. I already told you I suck at fighting scenes....

17. Defend it with our lives

They had left Hogwarts through the tunnel that led to the shrieking shack and from there they apparated to a street next to the ministry. Draco led the to an old run-down factory that was obviously deserted.

Harry had a look around but he was not familiar with this area and so he turned to Draco who was searching for something.

“Where to now?” Harry asked a little impatiently.

“I am trying to remember,” Draco replied. “I have only been here once and there are several tunnels but only one leads into the ministry.”

“Where exactly in the ministry?” Hermione asked.

“Behind one of the statues in the atrium, but there is a magical forcefield active there, that will render us invisible while behind it.”

So far Harry had not come up with a plan on how to get to the department of mysteries and he was so pumped with adrenalin that his body was shaking with tremors.

A soft hand came to rest on his shoulder and when he looked up he found Snape there.

“Breathe, slowly,” he advised and once Harry took a couple of deep breaths he felt a little better.

“Thanks,” Harry softly said suddenly feeling very young, very unprepared to face a horde of Death Eaters.

What if Draco was deceiving them, what if they got to the department and the wand was already taken? What if Snape would do something stupid and would be hurt or worse killed?

The thought made his guts clench for a second.

“Stop these thoughts, there are not leading anywhere useful.” Snape had his hand still on Harry's shoulder.

“I could really use my legelimency right now,” Harry whispered. “How long until the potion stops working?”

Snape seemed to consider that. “You took the last dose yesterday, the effect should be gone in one or two days.”

Harry huffed. “Great, these sods loose my wand and then block vital skills I could really use.”

Snape leaned down and his lips brushed Harry's ear causing a tingle to go down in his back.

“We will deal with them later.”

“This way!” Draco said loudly pointing to an entrance to a basement.

It was easy to open the doors that lead down and Hermione lightened her wand to look around.

“Appears save,” she finally stated and was the first to move down the stairs.

It was dark in here and the air smelled as if the basement had been closed for years. Downstairs there was only a wardrobe that looked broken and was peeling paint.

Draco opened the doors and searched for something inside. Suddenly the wardrobe was cast in a very strong green light and a doorway could be seen that led into darkness.

“I go first,” the blonde offered and disappeared inside with Hermione following him.

Turning around to Snape Harry blocked his way.

“Can we trust him?”

Snape shrugged. “As far as we can see him but that is the best shot we have.”

Sighing Harry climbed into the small tunnel and began to crawl on his hands and knees into the only possible direction. It seemed to drag on forever and Harry began to feel a little claustrophobic when eventually there was the same green light somewhere in the distance and about two minutes later he pushed himself out, pulling a muscle.

“Ouch,” Harry hissed when Snape bumped into him having been expecting him to be further away from the opening.

Snape grunted and Harry decided to treat it like an apology- he needed Snape around, he was the only reason he felt safe.

They stood behind one of the giant statutes in the massive atrium and one arm length away stood a Death Eater who did not appear to see them.

Draco turned around to Harry.

“I got us in, you do the rest.”

Harry rolled his eyes, having expected nothing else from the slytherin.

In the hall were not many Death Eaters but it would be hard getting them all in one go. Harry did not like the idea of that but it was the best course of action.

He wanted to pull away when Draco held him back. He had a Death Eater robe in his hands and was pulling it on.

“I distract them and you need to get to the elevators before they realize what hits them. Just remember that after the war.”

Not waiting for any reply Draco stepped out into the open foyer and the Death Eater spun around when he heard his approach. He raised his wand when Draco addressed him.

“Do not shoot, it's Draco.”

The brunette lowered his wand after a moment's consideration but he looked suspicious.

“What are you doing here?”

Draco managed to stare at him with the usual arrogance he used to show in school.

“Proving to my dark Lord that I am of use to him, what else?” He placed himself just next to the wizard and perused the hall. “How many are down here Crabbe?”

“Just me and Broomsmith, there at the elevator. It is safe, we have erected powerful wards that keep everybody outside.”

“Who else is here?”

The brunette had relaxed and even put his wand in his back pocket.

“Lucius is in charge of the Death Eaters who raid the house on the second floor.”

“That's all?” Draco asked incredulously.

Crabbe shrugged. “Most of the others are gone. We are just supposed to show them our strength, nothing else. The real attack will start after the weekend at-”

“You talk too much Crabbe,” Lucius interrupted and turned to his son. “What are you doing here?”

“I know where Potter's wand is?”

The blond shit was betraying them.

“With him, where else?”

Draco showed a sly smile.

“Oh no, the ministry did not allow him to keep it. This is my gift for our dark Lord father.”

Lucius mirrored Draco smile obviously pleased with his son.

“I knew you would make me proud. Where is it?”

“In Hogwarts where else?” Draco answered evenly but behind his back he motioned for them to go on.

Snape leaned to Hermione. “Can you take out Crabbe? I take care of Malfoy.”

The witch nodded. “I wait for your sign.”

Snape turned to Harry.

“Do nothing stupid until we have dealt with all of them but once it is safe, hurry into the department of mysteries.”

Hating not having a wand of his own Harry nevertheless nodded and then Snape silently moved forward, his moves graceful like a cat.

“I have another present for you father,” Draco said placing one hand on his father's sleeve.

“What is it?”

“Me,” Snape said pressing his wand into Lucius' back who froze. Hermione took out Crabbe with a stupefy curse while Draco fired one at the Death Eater who looked up from his place by the elevators.

“Draco, you may proceed,” Snape said when Harry came out to stand in front of Lucius.

The blonde raised his wand his face showing concentration.

“You know what hurt most father?” he asked. “When you said I was too weak to cast an unforgivable. Avada kedavra!”

The green from Draco's wand hit Lucius who slumped to the ground and the blond turned to Snape.

“Thank you.”

Harry could not help a growl as he realized that they had planned that in advance.

“Granger, let's check if there is nobody left in that floor,” Draco said to the witch who nodded and both of them began to search the huge hall.

Snape turned to Harry, his face unmoved.

“You would not have understood Potter. In a pureblood family that is the way we deal with worthless parents.”

“Really,” Harry hissed not trying to hide his anger. “I should have learnt by now that you should never trust a slytherin, Snape.”

Angry about both Snape and himself for trusting the potion master Harry stepped into the hall and made his way to the elevator. He was more hurt than anything else, having started to believe he could trust Snape.

In that moment an ear-splitting noise could be heard that began to let the building shake as if it was hit by something incredibly powerful.

“The order is trying to break the wards, it should be easy to get to the department now. Most of the Death Eaters will disappear as quickly as possible.” Snape was standing next to Harry who waited for the stupid elevator to arrive. Turning to Hermione and Draco, Snape pointed to the huge door. “Try to bombard the door with all spells you can think off, that will let the wards fall faster.”

Hermione and Draco nodded and began to cast curses and hexes at the door while Snape was silently staring at Harry but did not say anything.

Eventually the elevator opened and Harry stepped inside with Snape following him.

“I manage on my own from here,” Harry said through gritted teeth keeping his gaze on the the far wall.

Snape stepped in and pressed the button that would take them to department of mysteries.

“That would be foolish Potter and you know it. I am sorry when I do not live up to your expectations.”

Harry wanted to smack him into his calm and collected face but instead he ignored him, his anger and hurt getting the better of him.

As soon as the door opened Harry stepped into the corridor and would have knocked down by a killing curse if Snape had not pushed him to the ground in the last minute.

“Avada kedavra,” Snape cast and the green light hit one Death Eater while the second made for a run into the opposite direction.

“Find your wand, I take him down,” Snape ordered and ran down the corridor after the fleeing Death Eater.

In that moment a huge door to the right was ripped open and several wizards and witches came out. As soon as they saw Harry one them turned around.

“You can come it out, it is Harry Potter and the order.” More people streamed out and began to mount the elevators while the witch walked over to Harry placing his wand into his hand. “I guess you are missing this. We would have defended it with our lives.”

Harry had no chance to reply anything when she pulled him to the elevator.

“Quick, we need to leave now.”

She went into the elevator but Harry shrugged her off,

“You go, there's a friend still in here.”

Spinning around he began to sprint into the direction where Snape and that Death Eater had disappeared, his wand at the ready. Rounding the next corner he almost ran into Snape.

“Potter, what are you still doing here? Do you have your wand?”

Harry nodded and Snape pulled him down the corridor until they reached the elevators. A loud blow could be heard and a wave of energy rippled through the building knocking both wizards to the ground.

“What is that?” Harry asked Snape.

“The wards have fallen, I can apparate us out,” Snape muttered and wanted to get up when Harry gripped him at his arm holding him back. “What now Potter?” Snape asked impatiently.

“You are one of the most irritating wizards I know,” Harry said, “and I should hate you Snape.”

Snape just stared at him, his face unmoved.

“I would not expect anything else,” he said evenly his black eyes burning into Harry's who felt breathless as if he had run for miles.

The younger wizard threw himself over the elder Wizard's body, toppling both to the ground again.

“Shut up Snape and kiss me,” he ordered and Snape pulled him down pressing his lips against Harry's trembling ones.

This time Harry opened his lips and was rewarded when Snape's tongue thrust inside to play with Harry's. Snape's arms were pulling Harry tightly against his body and that was when Harry felt Snape 's hardened cock against his own, causing him to groan into Snape's mouth.

Somebody cleared his throat above them and both wizards looked up quickly

Amusement showed in Dumbledore's blue eyes as he chuckled.

“Gentlemen, I am sure you can finish that once we are back at Hogwarts.”

Harry blushed a scarlet red and nodded while Snape did not seem bothered too much by the headmaster's presence.

Dumbledor with a plop apparated away and without another word Snape pulled Harry closer as he apparated both back to Hogwarts.
