Chapter Seventeen: Fights

Harry was brooding. What should he do? Write to Draco? No, that would cause way more problems. Harry would suffer through this the entire break if it killed him, which he doubted.

He went to bed that night with heavy thoughts.

He knew that Mr. Malfoy and Draco would be very upset, hell, he was upset with himself, but not as much as he was confused.

Deep down, he did want to be friends with Hermione, and it scared him. He should know better, She's everything he loathed. He wouldn't go anywhere near that Ron git, or his brothers. The twins seemed nice, in an odd sort of way, but he didn't want to make more attachments than he already had. Hermione was bad enough. He had to make sure no one was going to talk when Draco got back. Draco's wrath would be horrible...Harry knew that for sure.
He sat down at his table in the morning, and Hermione came over and sat down. He found it easy enough to be around her, well when Draco wasn't on his mind. He could laugh at silly things she said, and join her in walks around the grounds.

The first week went by quickly, Harry found Christmas pretty lonely, opening his presents was the worst. With every gift he unwrapped new tears would start down his face. With every letter he opened fresh sobs would rack his chest. He met Hermione in the Entrance Hall, wearing a new cloak Mr. Malfoy had sent him. It was black with an emerald green trim. Hermione gasped, she fingered the cloak and told him it was nice.

"I have something special to show you." Harry told her, grabbing her hand and pulling her outside.

"Oohh, what is it?" Hermione asked.

"Well one day, Draco and I had come out here, around the back of the castle....where you found me lying in the snow that one day?" He made it a question.

"Yes, I know where you mean."

"Well anyway, we came out here and I told him that I thought that untouched snow was the best because it was pure. Pure like we are. It's perfectly smooth and it doesn't catch any shadows or anything."

Hermione looked slightly offended.

"But!" Harry started hasitly. "Well...you'll see."

They had turned the corner now. Hand in hand, and Harry started running, pulling Hermione behind him.
He ran straight at the perfect snow and started kicking his way through it, marring it's beautiful surface.
Hermione let go of his hand and watched his reckless behavior.

He looked delighted. When he was done ruining every part of it, he walked back to Hermione to look at his handy-work.

"It's still gorgeous." Harry whispered, leaning into Hermione.

He leaned down and placed a kiss on her lips. She looked up at him with her big brown eyes and smiled softly.
So this what a crush felt like.

She had really fallen for Harry Potter.

***************

Later that night Harry laid on his back in his bed. Tears were running down the sides of his face, dripping into his hair.

Why had he done that? Why did he ruin the perfectly smooth, pure, surface of that snow?

That was his special spot, it was a bit like Draco and him, they were smooth, in appearance and mind, and pure because of their blood-line.

He spent time with Draco there.

He had ruined it! Ruined it for that damned mudblood. He could close his eyes and see him wrecking it, wrecking everything that was important to him.
And then that kiss!

If Draco ever found out he would be pissed.

Harry was pissed!

Why had he done it?

Why, Why, Why?!?!?!

Once Draco seen what had happened to the snow he would ask Harry.

Could Harry lie? Could he tell Draco he didn't know what happened? Or should he just tell him the truth, that he had ruined it in a few seconds, just because he had the attention of a mudblood for a couple days.
That was absurd!

He knew that girl would cause problems.

Harry didn't even know what to do.

Harry didn't even know what to think.

He was absolutely disgusted with himself. But the serious question was, when he seen Hermione tommorow would he
be 'Draco-Harry', or 'Hermione-Harry'?

He would be 'Draco-Harry' dammit!! He willed himself to be.

*****************

Harry had thought about it half the night and decided that he just had to stay away from Hermione. No matter
what.

So when she walked up to the Slytherin table three days before the rest of the students would return Harry ignored her.

She sat down, "Hey Harry, What did you want to do today?" She asked.

Harry said nothing.

"Harry?" She asked, trying to peer into his eyes.

He quickly averted his eyes from her and said, "Get out of here, mudblood." while looking at his plate.

He heard her gasp, but didn't look up to see it.

He didn't think he could look into her eyes.

"You don't mean that, Harry." She said sadly.

"Yes, I do."

"No Harry, you don't."

He looked up now, hatred in his eyes. Why couldn't she just listen to him?

This would be so much easier if she would just listen!

He stood up and glared down at her.

"LEAVE, NOW!!!!" He screamed at her.

She flinched back and tears started pouring down her face.

She stood up quickly and fled from the room, fled from Harry.

***********

Hermione ran from the hall, and right into an angry Draco Malfoy.

"Watch where you're going, mudblood." Draco spat.

Hermione looked up from the floor and was startled at the rage that was apparant on Malfoys face. She stood up
and started to flee, but Draco grabbed her arm.

She spun around and faced him. "What do you want?" She asked.

"I want you to stay the hell away from Harry. If I ever see, or hear about, you being near him again I will personally make those teeth of yours fit into your face. Now excuse my while I go wash my hand" He said
menacingly, gesturing to the hand he had touched her with.

Hermione was terrified.

************

Harry sat back down, shaking in rage.

He looked back down at his plate, and felt someone move in beside him. He was about to look up and yell at her
again, but it was Draco.

Harry was shocked.

He still had three days until Draco was supposed to show up.

Draco smirked at him. "I missed you so much!" He said.

Harry spluttered for a moment.

"I missed you too!!" He said and threw himself into Draco's arms.

"So what did you say to mudblood?" Draco asked while Harry passed him the toast, "As I was coming in, she ran out crying like a little girl."

Harry felt a pang in his chest, and realized Draco was watching him closely.

"Nothing, I just told her to get away from me."

"Did you say mudblood?" Draco asked.

"Of course!"

"Good."

Harry nodded.

Draco finished his toast and waited for Harry to finish. Draco was inspecting Harry while he was eating. He looked...confused. Draco noticed that he continued to look up at Dumbledore, gauging Dumbledore's reactions.

Why did Harry care what that 'Muggle-lover' thought?

"So...how wsas your break?" Draco asked.

"Lonely" Harry said quietly. He looked uncomfortable.

"You didn't spend time with...anyone else?"

'Uh Oh, Draco sounds suspicious. This is it. Should I lie? Tell the truth?'

"Well, I did spend a little time with the mudblood," Harry started. Draco looked angry, but not shocked, "But I have been trying to brush her off for a few days. She finally got the hint today." Harry said, okay so it was only a half-lie.

"And what did you do together?" Draco asked.

"Nothing really, walked around outside." Now Harry looked really upset. "Uhm, Draco?"

"What, Harry?"

"You know that snow?"

"Yea, the pure snow. The snow like us. I was gunna see if you wanted to go out there after you were finished eating."

Now tears were starting to prick Harry's eyes.

Draco looked concerned, but his face was slowly switching to anger.

"What did you do Harry?"

"I ruined it...." Harry said quietly.

Draco looked apalled. His mouth was open and he said. "What? Why?"

"I don't know why. I just did. Don't be mad.."

Draco stood up abruptly. "Dont be mad? How can I not be mad? That snow represented us Harry, and YOU ruined it."

Draco's face was an angry red, and he walked swiftly away.

Draco was back, but Harry felt as lonely as ever.

**********

Harry decided to leave Draco alone. He was probably outside at the now imperfect snow. Harry went up to his dorm and sat at the foot of the bed, waiting for Draco to return when he was ready.

After an hour or two Draco came back, angry as ever. He had tears in his eyes and he was shaking uncontrollably.

"You did it for the mudblood, didn't you?" He asked Harry as soon as he opened the door.

Harry didn't say anything.

"What did you do with her, Harry? Why do you love her more than me?"

Harry opened his mouth, "I don't-" and was cut off by a swinging fist, it caught him in the jaw and he fell backwards on the bed.

Harry sat up, and got punched again.

He wasn't going to fight back.

Especially fight Draco.

After he was punched a few more times, his mouth bleeding and a cut over his eye, Draco stopped.

It seemed like all the life just left him suddenly. He slumped to his knees, and glared at Harry.

"I'm sorry. I don't know what happened to me Draco. It seemed like as soon as you left I felt completely alone.
I needed somebody by my side, she just came up and started talking to me. I'm so sorry Draco. So, so sorry!" Harry pleaded.

Draco looked up. "We need to talk about a few things" he said angrily.
