Chapter Sixteen: Bast’s Problems
For the next several days Hermione spent her time watching Ginny and seeing what was happening. She still hadn’t told her husband, because he would of made a comment. And she knew that Ginny didn’t need a comment right now. Hermione’s stomach had swollen to three times its normal size and she spent more time in the bathroom then in her lessons. Professor Lupin was absent during three Care of Magical Creatures lessons, but since Ginny was there Hermione gathered that he had gone through the transformation.
One day at the very end of March Hermione overheard Remus telling Professor McGonagall about cards that he was receiving.
“ I have no idea why anyone would want to be my secret admirer,” he told her.
“ Well I think its sweet, unless you want me to tell the Headmaster.”
“ Um, no,” answered Lupin. “ She’ll probably get tired of the fact that I don’t respond to any of them and leave me alone.”
Hermione grinned. Cards were Ginny’s trademarks, however she decided to continuing watching and to see what happened next. April popped up like a jack-in-the-box making the Snape family even more nervous then they all ready was. Letters were arriving from the Ministry telling them the same thing, “ We’ll be arriving the day after the birth to taketuretures of the family, and to see if their names were in the book.” Hermione couldn’t figure out what book they were talking about and decided to ask her husband about it.
“ It’s a large book that tells Minerva who to send letters to,” he explained.
“ Well then I’ll put that on the list of things that I’ve just found out.” The middle part of April Hermione went for her next to last check-up.
“ In a month you won’t have to worry about this,” Madam Pomfrey pointet.
“ That will be a blessing in disguise,” Hermione said sarcastically.
That night at dinner Severus put a box in front of her. Hermione who had mash potatoes halfway to her mouth looked at it and then him.
“ What’s this for?” She asked.
“ Just open it,” he urged. She put her fork down and taking the ribbon off she opened it, and gasped.
Inside was a solid black witches hat, the kind that Professor McGonagall wore. She took it out and put it on her head.
“ Thanks.” He grinned at her, something that the students noticed he never did before. Unknown to anyone their troubles were just only starting. The next morning Ginny ran up to Hermione as she was talking to Harry.
“ Can I speak to you?” She asked.
“ Sure. Excuse us Harry.”
“ No problem, seu atu at breakfast.” And he disappeared from sight.
She led her to an empty classroom and closed the door. She was all excited and wondered what she was planning to tell her.
“ Professor Lupin responded to my cards,” she told her, a look of excitement on her face. Hermione eyes widened in shock. “ I mean I can’t believe it. What do you think I should do?”
Hermione didn’t know what to say. She had a bad feeling that this would come back and haunt them, but as Ginny was so excited Hermione decided just to give her the advice and see what happened.
“ Well just take it slow.”
“ Oh I will.” And she ran out of the room and out of sight.
The rest of the month passed quickly with her husband returning at last to work. She had to admit that she missed the idea of teaching students, but understood that he wanted his work back, as it was the only thing good that he had left. Voldemort summoned him again, but this time only for an update on the whole deliver thing.
“ It will be in a few weeks,” he explained.
“ Very well, I can’t wait to read the paper.” And he was let go.
He returned to Dumbledore informing him of what Voldemort had said. Dumbledore wanted to keep the papers out of this one, but he knew that it would be no good. Everyone was looking forward to seeing the first Snape birth since Severus had been born.
“ The only thing that we can do is to have Aurors around just in case something happens.”
“ Agreed Albus. I’ll let my wife know.”
Hermione was horrified at the idea that Voldemort might plan something when the children were born.
“ Don’t worry,” he assured her. “ Albus will make sure that nothing happens to our children.” Hermione wrapped her arms arouim aim and then suddenly she kissed him. He groaned at the feeling that she was able to produce with just a kiss. He wanted her, but not with fear going around. He broke off and kissed her forehead.
“ What’s wrong?” She asked.
“ Your not in your right mind. We have a couple of weeks before the babies come and you’ve just heard that Voldemort might take them. I want your mind to be clear before anything.” Hermione wanted to protest, but his logic won. So she got up and went into the next room.
May hit like thunder anddid did the weather. Hermione watched the team celebrate their victory against Ravenclaw, the rain pouring in sheets. The Aurors arrived two days later and soon the halls were crawling with them.
“ Normally I would hate Aurors, but this time their needed.”
“ I can’t wait for all of this to be over,” said Hermione, a tear going down her face. “ I don’t want Voldemort to take them.”
“ Trust me he won’t.” That night while everyone was asleep a figure walked the corridors, her face completely covered. She had a note in her hand and determination on her face. Behind her was another figure, walking so silently that it would be hard to hear it. It watched her knock on Professor Lupin’s office door and then entered, leaving the door slightly opened.
“ I didn’t call on you,” said Lupin. It threw something inside and warded the door. It ran off, disappearing from sight. The sun came up and with it the yells of a very pissed off Professor. Some of the students were listening as three Aurors took Professor Lupin in hand.
“ What’s going on?” Asked Professor Dumbledore.
“ Your Professor just raped a student,” explained one of the Professors. Ginny was crying her eyes out and not speaking. Hermione went over and put her hand on her shoulder. However all she did was push her away and run towards the Aurors.
“ HE DIDN’T RAPE ME,” screamed Ginny.
“ I’m sure your feel differently when all of this is over,” said the Auror in a calm voice.
“ You-filthy-disgusting-little-worm,” hissed Ginny, pulling her wand out. “ Leave our school alone.”
“ Headmaster you’ll restrain your student and let me do my job,” he told him.
“ If there is proof that a rape happened, then by all means take him away, but unless you have proof. Well then I have no choice, but to not allow this. As I’m aware the victim has to tell you that he raped her for they’re to be a crime. I don’t see her yelling at you to take him away, now do I.” He said all this in a very calm voice and then Hermione stood before him.
“ You heard him, let Remus go.” The Auror narrowed his eyes at her.
“ And who might you be?” He asked.
“ Professor Hermione Snape, Potion Mistress and Head of Slytherin house. Now I do believe that Professors still hold high ranking here, and as Ginny isn’t screaming rape, there is no crime.”
“ Who told you this lie?” hissed Ginny, her face even redder then her hair.
“ Why Millicent Bulstrode.” Hermione cracked her knuckles against her hand.
“ It’s time to go Bulstrode hunting,” she sneered. Anr ror robes billowing in a fashion that would of made her husband proud, she disappeared from sight.
