What to expect from a Malfoy
I got to admit I am easily charmed into posting more by some lovely reviews and thanks to this, here is another chapter. Enjoy!
15. What to expect from a Malfoy
Harry paid for the twin's visit when Snape piled books on his desk while Harry was reading up in charms.
“What's that?” Harry asked suspiciously.
“That,” Snape said while he went to the door to leave, “Are several books with which it should be easy for you catch up. I expect you to read a chapter of each every day.”
Staring at the impossibly high pile Harry wondered how he should manage to read one chapter a day.
“All of them?”
Snape turned around at the door his face in smugness.
“Oh, for now. Once you are finished with them I have some more.”
Harry groaned aware that Snape was angry about this morning.
'I should tell George that his torture devices are in the book case,' Harry thought before he resigned himself to his studies.
Snape returned late afternoon, a pile of parchments in his hand and without another word he passed Harry and walked into his living room.
Happy to come to an end himself Harry marked the page he had read and then got up to flop down on the couch.
Snape disappeared into his bedroom and after two minutes he returned, to Harry's shock without his black robe, now only dressed in trousers and a shirt.,, Walking to the small cabinet where he stored his brandy, he poured himself a generous amount to down it in one go.
Then he looked up at Harry who by was playing with the hem of his shirt exposing more skin. For a second he could not take his eyes away from Harry's abdomen before he snapped out of it.
“How was your day?” Harry asked.
Snape huffed. “If you want to know, two cauldrons exploded, I have parchments to entertain me during the weekend and I have a terrible head ache.”
Harry smiled. “Sounds like your usual day.”
“No,” Snape replied as he said down in his arm chair. “My usual day would have included teaching you and I can assure you that my headache would be unbearable by now.”
Harry stared at his teacher and began to laugh being careful to expose more skin.
“Am I that horrible?” he asked out of breath peeking at Snape who had a slight smile on his face.
“Most days yes,” he stated as he tried to stretch some kinks out of his back.
Dinner arrived with a plop at that moment, which today was pasta and a cheese cake.
“Eat Potter, you look worse than after your summer holidays.”
Looking up from his plate Harry frowned.
“Huh?”
Snape sighed trying to rub his temples obviously trying to get rid of the pain.
“Every summer when you return from your holidays, you have lost a stone or two, you have shadows under your eyes and you walk scrunched up because you try to hide your uncle's beatings”
Now baffled Harry blushed a tiny bit but kept silent until Snape looked from his plate holding Harry's eyes.
“Many pureblood families expect their children to excel in school, have the right friends and succeed in quidditch. When these expectations are failed some of them hit their children. I see it in my house after the summer holidays every year.”
Remembering what Voldemort had said to Draco about taking the dark mark, Harry wondered if he should dare to ask Snape something personal.
“Sir, you are talking about Malfoy?”
For a moment Snape kept silent but then he nodded.
“He should have taken the dark mark this summer and approached me before hand. As much as Draco shows the usual Malfoy vices, he is not stupid. He wants to take an apprenticeship with Minerva after school and so we tried to find a reason why he could not take the mark as of yet. Albus agreed to help us and wrote letters to all pureblood families that at the beginning of the school year, their body would be checked for the dark mark.”
Harry had forgotten his food by now, resting comfortably on the couch.
“And did it work?”
“Yes,” Snape and nodded. “I convinced Lucius to postpone the dark mark and instead offer something of value to the dark lord. After last year in the ministry of magic and his failure to seize the prophecy, he was excluded from the inner circle.”
“Let me guess, he accepted it.”
“Indeed he did and Draco was tasked to find a way to kidnap you which he never seriously attempted. Against what you believe about young Mr Malfoy, he understands that you are far more powerful than him and rather than joining a fight against you, he attempts to be of some use in the hope of one day being rewarded once the war is over.”
Harry scrunched up his nose. “Charming, but I guess that is what you have to expect from a Malfoy.”
A thin smile played around Snape's lips.
“The world is full of people who sin in one way or another but if we do not offer the choice to repent, they are truly lost.”
“Like you,” Harry whispered.
“Like me.”
For a moment Snape's eyes held Harry's green ones, transfixing him and there was something else, something that brought a shudder down Harry's back but then the moment was destroyed by the fireplace that flared to life.
Dumbledore's head could be seen and there was no smile or twinkle in his eyes.
“Severus, I need you to come to my offfice and bring Harry with you.”
Snape nodded and got up intending to use the floo when he realized that Harry had made no move.
“Potter, you heard the headmaster. Get moving.”
There was defiance in Harry's eyes as he shook his head.
“I can imagine what happened and I am sure up there we meet the same people who wanted to send me to Azkaban three weeks ago. They will give me my wand back, pad me on the back and send me out to do what I was destined to do. Why should I do it for them?”
“Not for them but for your friends, for the memory of your parents but mostly because you gain your future with it.”
Harry closed his eyes but then pushed himself up.
“I am not done with them,” he said quietly.
Snape raised one elegant eye brow.
“Why don't we adjourn ripping Fudge's head off until we are done with Riddle?”
“Save the best for last,” Harry said as he walked to stand next to Snape.
Throwing some floo powder into the fireplace Snape disappeared and Harry followed him into the green flames.
Now there you go. I spoilt their fun with another plot twist but I heard anticipation makes the long awaited smut worthwhile. We are almost halfway through by now. Tell me what you think, if you can.
