Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Bogeys, Ewww!
Sorry it's taking so long posting, I've been very busy of late and everytime I sit down to work on this I'd just get stuck or distracted. Good news is the lastest writing bout this weekend has pretty much finished everything up to the climax. I had written that some time ago so I'm going to have to update it to reflect the changes that have come about since. I'm really happy in that I finally worked out the motivation of one of the major characters I was having trouble with. The bad news is I'm still disappointed in how much 'airtime' Harry and the others are getting but I'll try to work on it. Thanks again for the reviews Final Angelic Requirum and give Ms. Goodbody a chance she really is a nice person, she likes cats and little children.
Bogeys, Ewww!
Hanako’s scream echoed through the hallways. She started to turn and run but tripped, landing on her back. The Coyote was on her, growling, jaws slavering as it moved to rip out her throat.
Suddenly, a blast of magical energies struck its face and several bat winged objects emerged from the Coyote’s nose, growing in size, they circled and started attacking the creature. The Coyote let out a yelp and retreated into the darkened corridors pursued by its tormentors.
Hanako sat up crying, her ears flat against her head. A young red haired girl ran up to her.
“Are you alright?” Ginny Weasley asked.
Hanako wasn’t able to answer at first, just nodding slowly between sobs. Other people began to arrive as the figures in the paintings spread word of the disturbance around the castle. Dumbledore and Toshiro were among the first, the latter carrying a samurai sword slung over his back.
“What happened here?” Dumbledore demanded.
“She was attacked by a big dog or something,” Ginny said. “I scared him off with a bat bogey hex.”
Toshiro kneeled down and spoke soothingly to Hanako in Japanese. She tried to answer, the Babelfish charm translating her response for everyone to hear.
“Papa…he…he…” she managed to get out. “I said ‘heel’ but he kept coming…and…he.” She broke down into a new round of sobbing.
“Kit?” Toshiro said looking up at Shippo with confusion on his face.
“Impossible,” the elder Kitsune said. “He would never harm Hanako.”
At that moment, Kit came barreling his way through the crowd.
“Hanako! Hanako!” He cried distressed trying to reach his step-daughter.
Hanako let out a shriek and yelled, “HEEL!”
Kit slammed hard into the carpeted floor as the necklace around his neck turned his momentum into a downward plunge.
Toshiro and Madam Pomfrey led Hanako away while Shippo and Dannon stood by a swearing and growling Kit waiting for the restraining spell to wear off. The staff started dispersing the students that had gathered back to their rooms.
“Kit, Hanako says you attacked her.” Shippo finally managed to get through to him.
Kit’s struggles stopped, fortunately since the spell chose that moment to wear off. He looked at Shippo and Dannon with complete shock on his face.
“I would never….”
“We know, but she thinks it was you and there was a witness.” Dumbledore said.
“No!” Kit said defiantly. “I would never attack Hanako.”
“But you may not have been in control of yourself,” Goodbody said walking up from the edge of the dispersing crowd. “If you were bitten by a werewolf…”
“There is no proof of that,” Shippo said. “Besides there is a mystery here, Hanako said she used the subjugation spell. Ms. Weasley, you were close enough did you hear her say ‘heel’?”
“Yes, she yelled it clearly.”
“Yet, as we see the spell is functioning. If Kit was attacking her, the spell should have stopped him.”
“Maybe he took the necklace off,” Goodbody said.
“No, only Hanako’s mother could remove it. We had Hanako try. Her spirit energy is close enough to her mother’s to activate the spell but she can’t lift the necklace.”
“Still there are no canine animagus here,” Goodbody continued. “That leaves only Kit and his friends who could take the form of a Coyote.”
“That’s not true,” Ginny spoke up. “Someone could have used a polyjuice potion.”
“We will take that into consideration, Ms. Weasley.” Professor McGonagall said. “Now you need to get back to your dorm. Mr. Filch please escort her.”
“Enough of this,” Kit said. “I want to see Hanako.”
“I don’t think that is wise right now Kit.” Shippo said. “Toshiro is with her, he will see no harm comes to her. We’ll talk with her in the morning.”
Kit looked at him, defiance written on his face.
“I don’t think it is wise to allow Mr. Coyote to roam free under the circumstances.” Goodbody said. “It would probably be best, Headmaster, to put him off the grounds altogether.”
Kit’s look of defiance turned to pure venom.
“I’m afraid I have to agree with Ms. Goodbody,” Talgar added. “Until we prove his innocence, Mr. Coyote should not be unsupervised around the students.”
Kit started to say something but was stopped by a small growl that came from Shippo. The elder Kitsune was afraid for a moment that the American would disobey the pack leader command of silence but the Coyote flattened his ears in acquiescence.
“I don’t think it will be necessary to put Kit off the grounds,” Dumbledore said. “But I agree it is only prudent to keep him under observation until this matter is settled.”
“I will stay with him tonight,” Dannon said. “You can lock us in his room and further arrangements can be made tomorrow.”
Kit seeing the hurt look on Shippo’s face spoke up.
“That won’t be necessary. As long as I’m assured Hanako is safe, I will stay in my room tonight.”
“But how do we know you will keep your promise?” Goodbody said.
“That will not be an issue,” Shippo said turning to Kit. “Toshiro and I will guard Hanako tonight and I will have Toshiro place a spirit ward around Kit’s room. He will not be able to pass it. Will that be adequate, Kit?”
The Coyote nodded, a part of him both pleased and disappointed that neither Dannon nor Shippo would be able to pass such a ward either.
“You may of course add any additional wards on top of that,” Shippo said to Dumbledore, who nodded.
“That meets with my satisfaction,” the aged wizard said. “I assume that is adequate, Mr. Talgar?”
The Auror nodded.

Goodbody and Talgar wandered down the dark corridor as the others moved off behind them to their various destinations and tasks.
“What do you think?” Talgar asked.
“That will hold him tonight but his kind will chafe at the leash soon enough. He has unfinished business that he won’t let lie. He’ll make a mistake soon and then we’ll have him. We need to be ready.”
“Alright.”
They walked a moment longer then Talgar spoke again.
“I know the bat bogey hex and the effects do not wear off that quick.”
“Oh there are ways; a Coyote is very quick and agile with its jaws, particularly at catching small game?”
“You mean….” Talgar said looking shocked.
“Oh don’t look shocked; children eat bogeys all the time!”

Author's Note: Bogeys is an English slang term and I didn't really know what it meant before now. I had to do quite a bit of searching to find it and the chapter title was my immediate response. The American version is boogers. :)
