Chapter 14
--
Dinner was not what one would expect from the Dark Lord and
his minions. It was a rather pleasant
and formal affair. Voldemort was seated
at the head of the long table, with Raithos and Draco to his right, and Lucius
and Narcissa to his left. The rest of
the Death Eaters were spread along the length of the table, and Blaise and
Pansy had joined their parents.
Conversation was geared more towards classes and Quidditch,
rather than death and torture. The two were obviously very
much happy with each other, and very close.
As the meal died down, Lord Voldemort stood to address his
followers.
“Please, feel free to stay as long as you wish, the parlor
and Hall are at your disposal.”
Quietly, he motioned for his son, Draco, and Lucius to
follow him, pausing by Snape on the way.
“Severus, please join us in my study.”
“Yes, My Lord.”
--
“Alright son, let’s hear more about this werewolf.”
Raithos folded his hands in front of him, collecting his
thoughts.
“I’ve been in his mind father, He’s becoming more suspicious
of Dumbledore. He doesn’t understand
how the Headmaster knew about me, about you.
He’s looking for answers, and Dumbledore isn’t giving them.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It’s strange; he doesn’t hate or fear me as
much as everyone else. But, he hasn’t
stopped thinking of me as Harry Potter yet.
“He is still mourning the loss of his friends, father.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> The Potters, and Sirius.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> After all this time, he still mourns their
deaths. That is the way to get to him,
if we want it. Once he finds out Albus
Dumbledore was the man responsible for that, he will not be able to side with
him.”
“Are you sure?” Voldemort asked, a thoughtful expression on
his face.
“I’m sure. However,
I don’t think he’d do well as a Death Eater or a Shadow.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He doesn’t have it in him to kill people,
werewolf or not. It would weigh on him
too much. That doesn’t mean he couldn’t
be useful, he would make a very good informant. He’d have to learn to shield better though, breaking into his
mind is like breaking into a house to find the door unlocked and unwarded,”
Raithos finished.
“I agree with Raithos, My Lord,” Draco said
respectfully. “His assessment of the
werewolf is dead on. The side of the
Light overlooks him for mostmost part, but they all talk to him.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> They don’t trust him to actually do things,
but they do not keep information from him.”
“Lucius, what is your opinion on this matter?” Lord
Voldemort asked.
“My Lord, I believe Rai Raithos has a valid point
here. We could use another informant on
our side, and it would be no hardship for Severus to teach him Occlumency.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It will not be a big thing to remove him if
he proves to be a problem,” Lucius replied.
He looked at Raithos somewhat warily as he said the last.
“Lucius, don’t worry.
I’m not about to kill you for telling the truth.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It will not be a big thing to remove
him. I am not approaching this
situation with past emotions ruling me, I am approaching this from a purely
strategic standpoint. Ask Draco, he
knows my feelings on the matter.”
Voldemort spoke up.
“Very well. Raithos, you may
approach the werewolf on this matter.
Severus, you have known hir mar many years, you are to help.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> If he accepts, you are to teach him to
shield his mind. Try to keep him away
from the Headmaster during that period.
If he proves a problem, make sure you fix it, son.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> We do not need unnecessary disturbances.”
>
“Yes father. I
understand.”
“Good. Now that we
have that subject closed, Severus, how is your little project going?” Voldemort
asked.
“It is coming along quite well, My Lord.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> The Headmaster believes that my hatred for
the Potters and their friends will keep me from telling anyone that you were
not solely responsible for their deaths.
He also believes that Lupin and I still hate each other quite fiercely,
and has no fears that I will reveal the truth to him. He is slowly beginning to talk more about the past.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He’s made up an elaborate story about a
pregnant woman who came to him years ago, claiming to have run away from an
abusive husband. He took her in and she
gave birth to a boy at Hogwarts, and died minutes later.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> When a paternity spell was done, the birth
certificate read ‘Lorelai and Thomas Riddle” as parents.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He said he then placed Raithos with the
Potters, for fear that you would try to kill him.”
Voldemort’s eyes had gone cold and hard when Snape began
telling the farce Dumbledore had come up with.
“He will get his, father.
We have seen to it,” Raithos said quietly, laying a hand on his father’s
arm. “He will pay for all the pain he has
caused our family, do not doubt that.”
Voldemort placed his hand over his son’s.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “Yes he will, my son.”
“Lucius, have you perfected the spell?”
“Yes, My Lord. Once
the Headmaster has revealed the whole story from Severus, the spell will record
the scenes from his head into a three-dimensional image.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> The image is playable at any size and
volume, and is virtually indestructible and unchangeable,” Lucius replied.
“Very good. The real
Albus Dumbledore shall be revealed to all soon.”
--
Pansy and Blaise were waiting by the front door as the group
left the study. It was quite late and
the students needed to return to Hogwarts.
They started when they saw Lord Voldemort, with his arm around Raithos,
smiling and talking quietly with his son.
They gasped when Voldemort laughed out loud at something Raithos
said. They felt faint when Raithos
turned to embrace his father, and Voldemort returned it full-heartedly.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> They leaned on each other for support when
Raithos kissed his father on the forehead and said, “Love you Pops.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> They leaned on the wall for support when
Voldemort smiled and said “I love you too, son” in return.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
--
Draco began laughing at Blaise and Pansy as soon as they
apparated to the Forbidden Forest.
“You two shouave ave seen the looks on your
faces! It was priceless!style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Bloody priceless!”
Raithos looked on, very confused.
“What are you talking about ‘Co?” he asked.
“When you…your father…hugged…kissed…love you…” Draco managed
to get out between bursts.
“Oh please you two.
Get over it already, would you?
Don’t make a big deal out of it.
You were privileged to see it, you know. Only Draco, Lucius, and Narcissa have witnessed that before.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Consider yourselves lucky.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Now lets get going.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I want to go to bed already,” he finished,
exasperated with the gawking of the two newest Shadows.
“I just didn’t expect it to be true!style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I mean, we all thought Draco was joking
about that. But…I mean…It is…” Pansy
said, awed.
“Well what did you expect?
He’s my father.”
“Yeah, but you have to admit my Prince, it’s all a bit Star
Wars goes crazy. You know, Luke, I
am your father and all that,” Blaise pointed out.
Raithos snorted.
“You know, I’d never thought of that.”
--
The next day, Raithos and Draco found themselves confronted
with a furious Ronald Weasley on their way to breakfast.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
“You bastards!
I know it was you…I know you killed her! You’ll pay for that Potter!”
“That is not his name!” Draco hissed.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “And have you so quickly forgotten that
warning we gave you? Are you so eager
to throw your life away? What’s wrong
Weasel, can’t live without the dirty little Mudblood by your side?”
Ron went white at the mention of the threat.
Raithos stalked towards him until he was inches from his
face.
“That’s right Weasel, I do believed I promised you death the
next time. However, I’m finding you
make quite the little messenger boy.
I’ll make a little deal with you.
I’m going to give you a message, and you’ll run back and tell all the
other little witches and wizards, and you’ll get to keep your life.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> For now.
Because you see, you are one of those people who is just too stupid to
live for very long. You’ll fall into
your death sooner or later, all we have to do is wait for it.”
“Now, love, go ahead and have a bit of fun before our little
messenger boy scampers off,” he said as he walked back to Draco, planting a
kiss on his cheek.
Draco grinned evilly as he raised his hand.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
”Crucio.”
