Chapter 14

I own nothing but this sordid little tale. All characters belong to J.K. Rowling. I am not making any money by writing it. I must be insane.

Tiff: My faithful reviewer. Thank you.

Chapter 14

Charlie became very unpopular in the camp the next day.

After a very energetic night, the couple were more than a little weary the following morning. Lucy couldn’t get enough of him, and Charlie was hard put to keep up with her. As a result they both ached, and yawned all the way through breakfast.

It didn’t seem to matter which zone they visited that day, word had spread that the young witch with Charlie Weasley could fiddle about with electronics and make them work in a magical environment. As a result she was bombarded with requests to make a multitude of contraptions work for their owners.

Lucy became overwhelmed with it all and in the end, Charlie lost his temper and told them all to ‘Sod off.’

No one was very happy about it, but they left her alone after that.

“Thanks Charlie, I should never have shown you what I could do. Now all your friends won’t talk to you and it’s my fault. I’m sorry, really I am.”

Charlie gave her a hug. “Hey it’s cool. They’ll soon forget about it. There’s always someone arguing here, it never lasts though. Come on, next visit is to the nursery. I saved this bit for last because I reckon you’ll enjoy it the most.”

“Crikey Charlie you’re not kidding.” Lucy was enthralled with the array of baby dragons that lined the small enclosures in the nursery. The first room housed hatchlings from day one to around eight weeks, depending on breed, size and temperament.

Further down the corridor was a much larger room, spelled to give the appearance of a small mountainous area. There were caves set at irregular intervals and the walls were lined with a none combustible material for young ones like the Chinese Fireball and Welsh Green, both of whom could breath fire within days of hatching.

Lucy was in a state of adoration for the little creatures by the time he dragged her out of there. She wanted nothing more than to keep one for a pet.

“Please Charlie, just a little one, they’re adorable. Please can I have one?”

“No. Definitely not.” He tried to sound adamant, but the chuckle still rumbled through his words. “I really don’t want to be around if you ever meet Hagrid. Between the two of you Scotland will be overrun with dragons.”

“Who’s Hagrid? Does he have dragons?”

“No, but it’s not for lack of trying. He’s the grounds man at Hogwarts.”

“Hogwarts? That’s where Mr Dumbledore works isn’t it, and that other one, Snape.”

“Yeah. You’ve met Snape?”

“Oh I’ve met him alright. We didn’t exactly hit it off. Gran took me to an apothecaries and the cheeky beggar accused me of stealing from him.”

“And did you?”

“No.” She said, affronted. “I took the last of something from the shelf before he did and the old bugger went apeshit.”

Charlie was nearly in hysterics now. “So? What did you do?”

“Told him to sod off.”

Charlie fell back on the bed in his room where they were talking. “Hell Luc, I don’t believe you. No one tells Snape to sod off.”

“Well I did, then he said something and my lionfish spines shot into his hand. Smug git smirked at me. Anyway I called him a freak or something and told him to give them back. Dunno who was more surprised when they shot out of his hand and flew into mine. I ran off after that to tell gran about him.”

Charlie alternated between staring at her in awe, and laughing fit to burst.

“It wasn’t funny at the time Charlie. Anyway, he asked gran nicely if he could have them and she said yes. They were for the students or something so he ended up leaving with the spines and our puffer fish eyes. Next time I saw him he came to the house with Mr Dumbledore, and Maxi took Snape down to the kitchen floor and gave him a thorough wash.” She was laughing herself by now and it was a while before either of them calmed down.

“I have to take you back now Luc.” Charlie told her solemnly once they calmed down.

“Already? But there’s so much more to see. Can’t I stay another night, please Charlie?”

“I’d love to say yes, but your grandmother’s expecting you.”

Lucy pouted for a minute, then she leaned over and pinned him down. “One for the road.” She whispered.

His eyes widened, then crinkled when he smiled at her. “You are a nymphomaniac, do you know that?”

“Whatever.” She answered, pulling off her tee shirt. She had no idea when she’d find someone as talented as Charlie again and wanted one last go with him to keep her going for a while.

Charlie was happy to oblige and it wasn’t long before they were stripped and she was riding him. He decided it was as well she was leaving, she could easily become an addiction as far as he was concerned. His mum would love him to find a girl and settle down, but Charlie wasn’t ready for that. Lucy however was causing him to have second thoughts.

“It might be best if your gran didn’t know about our... extra curricular activities.” He said as they waited for the port key to activate.

“Well I’m not gonna tell her. Just friends yeah?”

Charlie gave her one last kiss before the tug of the port key sent them travelling back to Hogsmead.

When they landed in the living room Hetty wasn’t there.

“Fuck buddies.” She whispered to him before shouting for her gran.

Charlie’s ears turned bright red and were just fading when Hetty entered from the back garden.

“Hello you two. How did it go?”

“It was great gran, I got to see all kinds of dragons. I even helped with one that had a fungal infection. They tried my idea and it worked.”

“Mrs Grindelwald.” Charlie greeted.

“I hope you took good care of my girl young Charlie.”

“I did my best, I think she enjoyed herself. She certainly made an impression on some of the Healers there.”

“Oh it was fantastic gran, and Charlie took me on a broom. We got to see mothers on the nest, sick dragons, and the babies in the nursery. He was brilliant. He wouldn‘t let me have one of the baby‘s though.”

“I should hope note. So do you think you might want to work with magical beasts then, instead of muggle ones?”

“I haven’t decided yet. Charlie said unicorns are real, and I want to see what other kind of creatures you have. Maybe Charlie could come back and show me others.” She suggested hopefully.

“Charlie works mainly with dragons, you’ll have ample opportunity to see other creatures. So you two got along alright then?” Hetty was concerned her granddaughter would treat him with the same distain she treat the young Snape boy.

“Yeah. Buddies, eh Charlie.”

Charlie’s ears reddened again. After her statement when they arrived back he wished she would have said friends instead of buddies.

Lucy wanted him to stay for supper and Hetty said he was more than welcome. Charlie however was afraid Lucy might let something slip and said he needed to get back. Besides, his port key was glowing again.

Lucy gave him a big hug and told him thanks for being such a great pal, and then he was gone.

Had he stayed, he would have been mortified by the conversation that ensued.

Hetty told Lucy she would be going to Hogwarts four days a week to begin tutoring with the various Professors. It would enable her to learn as much as possible before starting in September.

Two days later found Lucy and Maxi walking down the road that led to Hogwarts.
