Slytherin & Gold chapter 13

Harry

All too soon the holidays were over and the feast before the start of term had arrived. The school felt strangely full of activity again, after the castle being nearly empty over the break. Harry looked to his side to see Ron sneaking a kiss with Hermione. Since the night of the Yule Ball, the two had hardly fought at all. Whatever step they had taken, and Ron wasn’t telling him, had obviously helped their relationship. Thinking of relationships, Harry turned to his other side to look at Ginny. She was staring at her goblet. Harry squeezed her knee lightly to bring her out of her revelry. She turned a half smile to him as her hand covered his. Harry looked around the room and noticed Draco watching them. Ginny had been as good as her word and had not approached Malfoy. Though she did watch him at times, Harry had noticed. Harry had not come up with anything to tell Ginny as to why Malfoy helped them. He just wasn’t willing to tell her the truth. For all he knew, knowing that Draco was in love with her might frighten Ginny, at least that was what he told himself.

Harry saw Professor Trisstt and Snape come in and sit at the staff table. Harry had noticed the way she was moving now. Even though you couldn’t tell from her robes, he noticed she had started moving like a pregnant woman. The thought warmed him somehow. He no longer lusted after Viviane, but he still felt deeply for her. He was one of the few entrusted with the responsibility of protecting her, a mission Harry took very seriously. Harry’s gaze shifted to Snape, who seemed nervous as a pixy. He saw Viviane speaking to Snape softly, as if she were trying to calm him. Snape’s eyes looked out and met Harry’s briefly. Harry gave him as encouraging a smile as he could. Snape inclined his head, in a minute nod, then glanced to his left as Dumbledore stood, and the hall fell silent.

“Welcome back to another term. I would like to make a couple of announcements, then we shall get to the feast. Firstly, Professor Sinistra will be on sabbatical this term and we are lucky to have Professor Cassiopeia Nemean filling in.” Dumbledore paused and a petite woman stood up that Harry hadn’t noticed before. Her hair cut short, just below her ears was a dark auburn color. For her size, she looked no older than a 3rd year. She smiled nervously at the students, then sat back down. Harry noticed Remus leaned forward and was nearly glaring down the table at her. This struck Harry strange, as Remus was usually so mild a character. Dumbledore continued. “I’m sure we will all make Professor Nemean feel right at home. I also have the pleasure of announcing that there will be a wedding, held here at the school this spring.” There were many gasps and whispers, and all around general excitement. “I am pleased to announce the engagement of Professors Viviane Trisstt and Severus Snape.”

Viviane and Snape stood up as a thunderous applause went up. Harry had never heard anything so loud in his life. As he himself applauded, he looked around at the other tables and noticed all houses were equally excited, even most of Slytherin. Snstoostood holding Viviane’s hand and both appeared to be blushing. Students were on their feet, whistling and cheering. Finally, the Headmaster held up his hands and the hall went back to order. The happy couple sat down and Viviane kissed Snape lightly on the lips. There was a general ‘ahh’ sound raising up from many of the girls in the hall upon seeing the kiss.

“Let the feast begin.” Dumbledore said and food instantly appeared on the tables. After loading his plate, Harry glanced back up at Snape and Viviane. He felt sort of sorry for Snape. The man was not used to this kind of attention. Several of the faculty were coming over to him and giving their congratulations. The man was trying to be gracious, but Harry could see he was quickly lg hig his temper. Viviane leaned in and whispered in Snape’s ear. Snape sighed and turned a half smile to her. Harry chuckled to himself at how easily Viviane could handle the most dreaded Professor at Hogwarts.

All conversations at the table were about Snape and Viviane, the wedding and their engagement. Since he already knew about Snape and Viviane, Harry was more interested in the new Professor and why Remus seemed to have taken an instant dislike to her. Harry looked at the small witch again. She was young, he could tell, mid twenties maybe. She did not seem to be talking much, though she was intently listening to Professor Sprout. Harry decided after dinner, he would try to speak with her, welcome her to the school. It couldn’t hurt, since he would have her for Astronomy class.

“Professor Nemean ?” Harry called, catching up to her in the entry hall. She turned around a little startled. Harry took note that the top of her head barely reached his shoulders. All of her appeared small and delicate, even her features. “Sorry to have startled you.” Harry apologized.

“That’s alright.” Nemean laughed nervously. “I’m just noed ted to being called Professor. Hey !,” She said looking up at him, an expression of wonder coming to her face. “You’re Harry Potter, aren’t you?” Harry nodded uncomfortably. He just couldn’t get used to people staring at his scar and knowing who he was. “I was hoping to meet you. You’re in my 5th year class, right ?” Again Harry nodded.

“Harry !!” A gruff voice sounded behind him. Harry turned to see Remus standing to his right. Remus’ jaw was set and Harry saw a cool anger resting in his eyes. What have I done now ?, Harry wondered.

“Yes, Professor Lupin ?” Harry asked.

“I need to have a word with you. Excuse us.” Remus said nodding curtly to the surprised little witch and lead Harry away by his arm. Remus didn’t let go, until they reached Viviane’s classroom.

“What did I do, Remus ?” Harry asked not very politely. Remus didn’t answer right away, he looked preoccupied.

“What ? You ? Nothing, you haven’t done anything wrong.” Remus appeared surprised at such a question.

“Then why did you drag me off !” Harry said sharply. He didn’t like how this made him look in front of the new Professor. “Now Professor Nemean is going to think I’m some kind of trouble maker.”

“Sorry. That wasn’t the intent at all. I’m just ……..” Remus sighed and sat on the closest desk running his hand through his hair. “I don’t know if I can describe it to you, Harry, but something just doesn’t smell right about her. All this trouble we’ve had at the school and suddenly there is a new teacher. Then the first thing she does is corner you alone. I don’t like it.”

“She didn’t corner me, I went out to talk to her. And Professor Trisstt is the one we are supposed to be protecting.”

“Oh, I see. You’re right, of course, about Viv.” Remus said, but he stood and began pacing.

“What do you mean something doesn’t smell right about her ?” Harry asked a little calmer.

“I don’t know !” The statement burst forth violently from him. “There’s just…… the sense that she’s hiding something. I can’t put my finger on it.” Harry did a quick calculation in his head, but realized the full moon was still a good week away, so this was not a lycanthic paranoia.

“She seemed perfectly sincere to me, Remus. I startled her, just calling her name.” Harry watched as Remus continued to pace. “Remus ?” Getting no reaction he tried again. “Remus !” Harry said per.per. Remus stopped and looked at Harry as if he didn’t remember he was there. “Something else has been bothering you, would you like to talk about it ?” Remus stared at him, searching his eyes keenly.

“I ……. I don’t think it’s appropriate …. for me to talk to you….. about this.” He looked suddenly sad and very tired.

“Remus, I’m your friend. You obviously need someone to talk to and it seems you can’t talk to Sirius about this.” Remus looked away and sighed. He resumed sitting on the desk.

Remus hesitantly launched into his story. As he went on, talking got easier for him and the tale came spilling out. How he had loved Viviane in school and still did. How much it had hurt him, that she always loved Severus more. He even told Harry, he had made love to Viviane , then became frightened and pushed her away. Sirius never knew about any of this and Remus didn’t want to tell him. Sirius’ ego is easily bruised and if he knew Remus had been with Viviane…….

“Remus….. I don’t know if you’ve considered this, but …….. Have you ever thought that maybe it was the wood nymph part of Viviane that ‘spoke’ to the wolf part of you ?” Harry offered. Remus had been looking at the floor, but brought his head up sharply.

“What ?” Remus asked.

“I mean……. I’ve seen her with animals. She had that chimera practically purring and all she did was talk to it. You say you are really happy for her, now that she and Snape are together. Maybe…… you were never really in love with her, you were just drawn to her.” That statement hanging in the air struck a chord with both of them. They stared at each other as the truth sank in. Remus stood slowly, drawing his hand through his hair again.

“I never …… well I didn’t even know until recently, but …… I never thought about that.” Remus went back into a slow pace. “Viv is my friend. I wanted her to have the man she loved, I was just always jealous that it wasn’t me. Oh y…… y…… I think you might be right.” Remus said excitedly, grabbing Harry’s shoulders and shaking him a bit. Harry stared back dully.

“I’m sorry Harry, did I hurt you ?” Remus asked seeing the expression on Harry’s face.

“No. No, I’m just thinking that maybe you weren’t the only one deluding yourself.” Understanding slowly crossed Remus’ face.

“Ginny ?” He asked.

“I like her, I really do, but ….. maybe I was just drawn to her.”

“Harry, you’re young yet, and you have only been dating a few weeks. Give yourself some time before you do something you may regret.” Remus said sitting again.

“Malfoy is in love with her.” Harry said plainly.

“Draco ? What makes you say that ?” Remus asked.

“He told me. I had to find out why he helped us get Ginny back, at the ball. He let slip he was in love with her. And I’ve noticed lately she stares at him a lot, mostly when she thinks I’m not looking.” Harry let out a deep sigh, then turned to look into Remus’ face. “If I really cared about her, that would make me jealous, wouldn’t it ? But I’m not.” They sat silently for several minutes contemplating the situation.

“Harry, I think you will know the right thing to do. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help. Perhaps Sirius ….”

“I talked to Sirius about Ginny. He was really happy for me, I don’t want him worrying again.” Harry said standing. Remus stood and went to Harry, giving him a fatherly hug.

“Thanks for letting me talk this out.” Remus said releasing him. “If you ever need to talk again, I’m here.”

“I know, thanks. I think I’ll just head up to the tower now.” Harry said leaving with a somewhat heavy heart. Heavy because he was going to miss that special contact with someone, but he knew he would be making Ginny happier in the long run. Harry couldn’t help thinking that growing up sucks !!

Severus

“Do you really want to have the wedding that late ? What if the twins come early ?” Severus asked Viviane when they were in her quarters. The reception they had received to their engagement had spurred them on to come up with a final date.

“Poppy thinks they won’t come until the end of May or even June. Beltane is the perfect day for our wedding. The festival of fertility and fire, is that not us ?” Viviane asked laughing.

“The first of May is just so close to your delivery. I’m worried about the strain on you.” Severus said hugging her to him. “You know I don’t care when, just that we do get married.”

“I will send an owl to Mum and Da tomorrow. They will be thrilled.” She said excitedly. “You know you will have to wear something other than black, don’t you ?” Severus pulled back looking down into her face with a sneer. “Tis bad luck to be married in black.” She said in her best Welsh lilt.

“We shall see.” Severus said noncommittally.

“I’m glad we chose to come here tonight.” She said indicating her chambers.

“Yes, it’s almost like going on holiday. Maybe we should come up here more often.” He said smelling a flowering bush next to him. Viviane was removing her robes and getting ready for bed.

“I was really proud of you tonight. I know that must have been hard for you.” Viviane was smiling at him. Severus looked at her and shrugged.

“At least it’s all over.” He said with a sigh as he began to undress.

“Not hardly, my love.” She said chuckling. Severus looked up sharply.

“What do you mean ?”

“I mean, tomorrow we will face the students. You heard that applause, don’t you think they will want to congratulate you, as well ? Tonight was only the staff congratulating you.”

“They were giving their regards to you, they don’t even like me.”

“Severus…….. you don’t really believe that, do you ? Those people are your friends, they barely know me. They are happy for you.” Viviane said seriously. Severus was a bit taken aback. He had never thought of himself as a man with many friends. Dumbledore, obviously, but others merely tolerated him, didn’t they ?

They climbed into bed and into each others arms. Severus was heavily in thought, when he noticed Viviane looking at him. He raised an eyebrow questioningly. She just smiled and put her head on his chest. He sighed comfortably, hugging her to him. Was it true ? Had these people been trying to be friends with him all along and it was he who had been aloof ? He decided he would have to make more of an effort from now on. Maybe Viviane was right ? Ug, and she was most likely right about the students tomorrow. He would have to summon up his most impressive scowl for classes
tomorrow.

Severus awoke slowly, trying to get away from the profuse amount of light in the room. He finally opened his eyes looking around the room and remembering where he was. He gave a physical start and quickly sat up looking around the room in disbelief. Every plant, tree and vine expanded and grew about a third again it’s size overnight. The ivy by the entrance door had been nearly up to the frame last night, now it was a good arms length above it. The trees next to the bed, appeared to be reaching out into the room and the flowering bush he had smelled last night was now considerably bigger and covered with flowers.

He turned to Viviane who was still curled up in sleep. A strange energy filled the room. It was almost as if Severus could ‘feel’ the plants growing. He got up and got dressed quickly. The sooner they got out of there the better. Walking over to her side of the bed he shook her lightly.

“Viviane. Viviane, we need to go.” She opened her eyes groggily staring at him. Immediately, Severus felt the change in the energy of the room. It was as though everything….stopped. Still feeling very uneasy he helped Viviane to dress.

“Why are you in such a hurry, Severus ?” Viviane asked as she yawned.

“Look around the room.” He said plainly. She looked then slowly she comprehended the situation.

“What happened ?” She said.

“You did, my love.” He said lightly, finally finding the mirth in the situation.

“But I didn’t do this. I’m just as surprised as you.” She insisted.

“It appears to happen while you sleep. I believe, your pregnancy is somehow fortifying your inherit magic.” Severus said.

“But …… I’m not even sure what my inherit magic is. What else is going to happen ?” She said looking worried.

“It will be alright. But I think we should let Elvira take these plants to the greenhouses. Sleeping in here again could prove dangerous.” Severus said as he held the door open for her. This was going to be an interesting conversation at breakfast.

Viviane

Viviane’s 5th year class was nearly over. As she had predicted, many students had come by to bid her congratulations. It made her laugh to herself to wonder what kind of morning Severus had been having so far. As the bell rang, Viviane watched the class pack up and leave the room. She noticed Draco was packing slowly and seemed to be waiting for the others to leave.

“Mr. Malfoy. May I have a word, please ?” She said. Draco looked up and met her eyes, he appeared worried.

“Yes, Professor Trisstt.” Viviane went to the door and closed it as the last students left. She pulled out her wand and placed locking and silencing charms on the room. Shrnedrned back to Draco who looked quite fearful now.

“Don’t worry, Draco. I got the feeling you wanted to talk to me, that’s all.” She said giving him an encouraging smile. He still seemed quite apprehensive though, as he stared at the floor.

“Professor Trisstt ……….. I wanted to ……. apologize …… for my parents behavior…. at the Yule Ball.” Turning his eyes up to her, she could see the torment going on behind them. She felt she needed to set him right on a few things.

“Draco….. first of all, you are not responsible for your parents behavior. Second, I am very thankful to you for rescuing Ginny. And thirdly, whatever your parents might do, does not change my opinion of you.” She was sitting on the desk in front of him, studying his reaction to her words. Draco’s eyes filled with tears as he searched her face.

“But …… I’m a Malfoy.” He said plainly, as the tears began to spill over onto his cheeks.

“Every man must choose his own path. You are not your father, nor do you have to be like him. You are very young Draco, many paths are open to you. You have to choose.” Viviane brushed the tears from his cheeks. Somehow, instead of her words reassuring him, they seemed to pain him all the more. It appeared he had no more to say, so Viviane stood and hugged him. He stood stiffly in her arms, not responding. She smoothed his hair, and brought his head to her shoulder. His arms moved tentatively around her waist, and she felt him begin to weep. So much pain, she thought. Viviane held him, stroked his back and head until he quieted. He pulled away from her and she handed him a handkerchief.

He didn’t seem to know what to say, so he picked up his book bag getting ready to leave.

“Is ….is it true then ? You’re ….” He said indicating her stomach.

“Pregnant ? Yes, it is. And they are quite active today.” She said placing a hand over her belly. “Would you like to feel ?” She wasn’t sure what made her ask him that, but a light came to his eyes and he put his bag down.

“Here, give me your hand.” She took the hand he offered and placed it high on her belly, where she felt one of the twins kicking. Draco looked up at her with a strange expression.

“Did you say ‘they’ ?”

“Yes, we’re having twins.” She took his other hand and placed it on the lower right side of her belly. He actually laughed out loud. After a minute or two he took his hands away.

“Thanks.” He said a little embarrassed.

“Draco, I hope you know you can come to either myself or Severus, anytime.” Draco nodded and went towards the door. Viviane removed the charms and let him leave. So much pain, she thought again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Viviane was in her office, later in the afternoon, correcting a stack of essays for her 2nd year class, when she heardoof oof at her door. Smiling she waved the big black dog in and closed the door. Sirius appeared in front of her.
“Do you have a few minutes, Viv ?” He asked, looking serious.
“Of course, Sirius.” She said sitting in one of the two chairs in front of her desk. Sirius sat in the other, elbows on his knees looking very uncomfortable.
“Viv ……Do you know what’s up with Remus ?” He looked into her eyes. She wasn’t sure how much she should say. If Remus had wanted Sirius to know, he would have told him by now.
“It’s just …..” He continued. “I get the feeling it has to do with you. He’s barely talked to or about you in over a week. I don’t like seeing him this depressed, especially with the full moon coming.”
“I’m very concerned for him too, but I think you will have to talk to Remus about this.”
“Damn it, Viv !! He’s my friend, too.” Sirius said springing to his feet. “What is it you two are keeping from me ?” A light flashed in Sirius’ eyes. “You two, you were …… Why didn’t I ever see it before ?” He paced the room. “So all that crap you spouted about wanting Severus when we were in school was just to keep me away from you, is that it ? Apparently that didn’t extend to Remus.” Viviane didn’t like how agitated Sirius was becoming. “Damn it, say something, Viv !”
Viviane stood and made for the door, but Sirius threw out his arm to stop her. He pushed her back against the wall, trapping her with his body.
“Is that it, Viv ? Was it just me that you couldn’t stand ? Did James have you, too ?” Before she could even think, Viviane slapped Sirius across the face.
“How dare you !! I do not have to explain my actions to you. Leave Sirius !! Now !!” She yelled at him. He merely sneered and pressed his body suggestively into her. She could feel he was highly aroused and looking into his eyes, for the first time in her life she was afraid of Sirius Black. Her friend for so many years, how could he be acting like this ?
“That’s alright, I like it a bit rough, Viviane.” He said lowering his head to her neck biting her, making her yelp. She realized her wand was sitting on the desk and she couldn’t get Sirius off of her. Viviane panicked and yelled. Almost immediately, there was a rap at the door.
“Professor Trisstt are you …..” Harry said opening the door. He was shocked at what he saw. Then looking at Viviane’s fearful face he went into action.
“Sirius !?! Get off of her !” Harry said, quickly pulling out his wand.
“Bugger off, Harry. I’ll catch up to you later. I’m busy at the moment.” Sirius said rubbing his erection up and down her hip as she turned her face away from him.
“Petrificus Totalus” Harry said, casting the body freezing charm on Sirius. Sirius stiffened, then fell over. Harry looked down at his godfather disgustedly. “ Are you alright, Viviane ?” He asked, forgetting and calling her by her name.
“Yes……Harry, thank you.” She said a breathlessly. “ I don’t know what got into him. One minute we were talking, then ….” She was shaking as she looked down at her friend and attacker.
“Maybe you should go to the dungeons and rest. I’ll deal with him.” Harry said, looking so like James at that moment, it was scary.
Viviane left and went quickly to Severus’ quarters, using the entrance from the hall, so he wouldn’t see how upset she was. Viviane didn’t know how she was going to explain this to him. Severus had just begun to tolerate Sirius, and now this. What in the world had gotten into Sirius ?
*********************************************
Harry
Harry looked down at Sirius with a heavy heart. He loved his godfather, but nothing could excuse attempted rape. He sat down for a few minutes to think before he released Sirius. Harry knew Sirius was impetuous, but this…..? If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed it.
“Finite Incantatem” Harry said ending the freezing spell, but keeping his wand ready, just in case. Sirius blinked, still a bit dazed. Then he turned horrified eyes to Harry.
“Dear Merlin, what have I done ?” Sirius said in an anguished voice.
“You were attacking Viviane ! How could you Sirius ? She’s pregnant, for God’s sake, you might have hurt her !!” Harry yelled, all his anger, fear and disgust rising up and spilling out in his words.
“Harry …. I didn’t mean……..I’d never hurt Viv, you’ve got to believe me.” Sirius said getting up into the chair opposite Harry. Harry’s eyes narrowed as he contemplated the older wizard.
“And what exactly were you planning on doing before I came in ?” Harry asked angrily.
“Now wait, I’m just as horrified as you.” Sirius shot back.
“I doubt that !” Harry spat out.
“Just hear me out, alright ! There’s something else going on here.” Sirius threw back loudly. Harry sat back in the chair and crossed his arms, still keeping a grip on his wand.
“I came in to talk to Viv about Remus. He’s been really depressed lately and I thought she might know why.”
“You may find Remus is feeling better.” Harry said plainly, with no explanation.
“You mean……. he talked to you. Well…. that’s alright then.” Though Sirius looked a bit hurt.
“Anyway, Viv and I were talking and ……….. I found myself getting angrier and well……… excited.” Sirius stood suddenly and began to pace. “I can’t explain it. I’ve never felt like that around Viv. Not that I never wanted her, I’ll admit I have in the past, but ………. this was something different, primal. Like I couldn’t control myself.” He turned to look at Harry who was still glaring at him. “I would never force myself on a woman, Harry. Especially not one of my best friends.”
Harry wasn’t sure what to believe at this point, but Sirius did seem sincere. And Viviane had been completely shocked by Sirius’ behavior. Harry held out a guarded hope that his godfather was not wholly responsible for the attack. Harry stood and put his wand away.
“Stay away from her Sirius or I’m going to Snape. And stay away from me too, for a while.” Harry left a dumbfounded Sirius standing alone in the office.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Harry went up to Gryffindor tower. Once in the common room, he looked around and saw Ginny sitting in her usual chair. He went over and stood in front of her. Ginny looked up at him, concern clearly showing on her face.

“Harry ?” She said standing. Harry looked into her eyes for a moment, then took her hand and lead her up to his dorm room.

Luckily, the dorm was empty. She looked into his eyes again, then calmly took off her shoes and crawled onto his bed closing the curtains on her side. He followed her lead, taking his shoes off, then onto the bed, closing the curtains on his side. He pulled out his wand and put up a silencing charm. Ginny held her arms out to him as he laid his head on her chest. She stroked his back and hair, soothing him. Her soft touch crumpled his last bit of control and he began to cry, shaking against her. Harry barely felt Ginny remove his glasses. He needed Ginny right now, whether it was right or not. The idea he would have to give up this kof cof comfort made him cry harder. Pushing that thought out of his mind, he went back to the problem at hand. This incident had shaken his relationship with Sirius, the closet person he had to a parent. Why ? Why woSiriSirius suddenly attack Viviane ? He had already ruled out the possibility she had provoked Sirius. Viviane wouldn’t do that and she was much too shocked, in Harry’s opinion. Harry sighed into Ginny’s embrace and listened to her soothing words. She hadn’t even asked what was bothering him, but offered her comfort unquestioningly. In a way, this made Harry feel bad. Ginny deserved to be loved. And as much as Harry liked her, he didn’t love her and knew he never would.

“Thanks, Ginny.” Harry said after a time. She handed him a tissue from the bedside with one hand while continuing to stroke his back with the other. He cleaned up his face and felt her kiss his forehead. Harry sat up, pulling Ginny’s head down onto his chest, hugging her to him.

“Do you want to tell me about it, Harry ?” Ginny offered.

“No….. not just yet. I ….. I just want to hold you for a while. If that’s alright ?” Ginny snuggled into him and sighed instead of answering.

~~~~~~~
“Hey you two !!” a voice shouted.
Harry blinked his eyes against the light. He must have fallen asleep and by the groggy movements of Ginny next to him, she must have been asleep as well. Harry turned his attention to the angry blur with red hair next to his bed.
“What’s wrong, Ron ?” Harry said looking for his glasses. Ginny tapped him and put his glasses in the hand. Ron’s cheeks were pink and he looked upset.
“I just…… you two were missing and………” Ron stuttered out.
“What Ron ? Did you think we might be getting up to the things you and Hermione do ?” Ginny snapped at Ron, who turned even redder. “We just wanted some time alone and fell asleep.”
“Sorry.” Ron mumbled. “We’ll wait for you in the common room to go to dinner.” He went out leaving Harry and Ginny alone.
“I’m sorry he’s such a pain, Harry.” Ginny said. Harry laughed.
“He’s just worried about you. If you were my sister, I’d be worried, too.” He said getting his shoes.
“Harry ? You can talk to me later….. if you want. You don’t have to though, I just want you to know you can.” She said.
“I know, Ginny. Thanks.” Harry liked the fact she wasn’t pushing him, just offering to listen. He hadn’t made up his mind whether he wanted to talk about the incident this afternoon. Sighing again he walked with Ginny down the stairs. He just wanted to put it out of his mind for a couple of hours.
Severus
What an annoying day !! Severus could not have been happier, when the bell rang to mark the end of the school day. Every doe eyed female he came across all day had to stop and congratulate him and ask him silly questions. ‘Where are you going on your honeymoon ?’, ‘Will Professor Trisstt be teaching next year ?’, ‘Have you thought of a name for the baby yet ?’, ‘Will you still be living in the castle ?’, and on and on they came all day long. Really !! In his day, children would never have thought to ask such personnel questions of their Professor. What really annoyed him was the fact he didn’t know the answers to most of the questions. He realized other than deciding to get married, he and Viviane had planned very little for the babies.
For right now, living anywhere but Hogwarts was out of the question. Viviane’s and the children’s safety came first. But then, if they were going to be living here, they had to make plans for accommodating the twins and all the paraphernalia needed for babies. He would have to talk to Dumbledore to see what could be done.
Deep in his own thoughts, Severus turned a corner and ran smack into someone. Looking down at the person, he started to growl, ready to take house points away, when he noticed teaching robes. Wide ginger colored eyes turned up to him, as he saw it was Professor Nemean, the new Astronomy Professor.
“I’m so sorry.” She stuttered out.
“My fault, Professor Nemean.” Severus said graciously.
“Oh please, call me Cassi. I’m sure it was my fault. I keep getting lost in this castle. You are Professor Snape. Potions, right ?”
“Yes. Please, call me Severus.”
“You are one of the teachers getting married.” She said still seeming lost.
“Yes, my fiancé is Viviane Trisstt.”
“She’s tall right, with lots of golden curls. I was hoping to meet her sometime, we appear to be the youngest witches on staff.” She said with a giggle.
“I am going to our quarters now, perhaps you would like to come by and get acquainted ?” Severus couldn’t believe he was asking her this, but he had promised himself he would try harder to be friendly, for Viviane’s sake.
“That would be lovely.” She said. Severus began leading the way to his quarters, which didn’t take long. Opening the door, he saw Viviane curled up in a chair by the fire. Viviane turned to him and looked shocked to see the small witch walk through the door after him. Viviane stood walking to Cassi and shaking her hand.
“Professor Nemean. I hope there is nothing wrong.”
“Wrong ? No, no I don’t need a potion and please call me Cassi .”
“I ran into Cassi in the hall. I thought this might be a good opportunity to get to know each other. I will make some tea, shall I ?” Severus asked. Viviane nodded to him a little taken aback by his new attitude.
“Congratulations are in order I understand.” Cassi said. Viviane ran a hand across her belly, looking confused.
“Yes…. thank you.” Viviane said. Cassi noticed the gesture and blushed brightly.
“I…..I meant about the wedding.” The younger witch stuttered out.
“Oh, yes , of course. Thank you.” Severus was just setting down the tea tray. He sat on the ottoman next to Viviane.
“Is this your first teaching post ?” Severus asked. He could tell the girl was barely out of school.
“Yes, it is. I hadn’t hoped for a position yet, but when this opportunity came up, I couldn’t turn it down.”
“How did you hear about the position ?” Severus asked as he handed Cassi a cup of tea.
“My parents both teach at Durmstrong. Professor Dumbledore asked my father if he knew of anyone to fill in for this term. Dad teaches Astronomy, and he told the Headmaster I was available. It’s worked out well. Now if I could just stop getting lost.” Cassi concluded, just as there was a knock at the door. Severus went to answer it. Opening the door, he saw Remus standing there.
“Come in, Lupin.” Severus noticed Viviane sat straighter, an odd expression on her face as Remus came in. Remus walked into the room and came to an abrupt halt, when he saw Cassi sitting on the sofa.
“I …… hope I’m not interrupting.” Remus said.
“No, Remus. We were just getting to know Cassi, she’s the new Astronomy teacher.” Viviane said. “Please join us, if you have a few minutes.”
“I ….. I came to talk to you, Viv. About the goings on ….. in the classroom.” Remus said looking at Viviane.
“You are both teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts, aren’t you ? Probably a good thing, with the Dark Lord back.” The mention of the Dark Lord seemed to have silenced the room as effectively as the Confutare Mortis spell would have. “I should get going. I’ll never find the library at this rate.”
Severus thought Remus and Viviane could use a few minutes alone, so he offered to show Cassi to the library.
Viviane
Viviane noticed how tense Remus was around Cassi. He didn’t relax until she had left with Severus. Remus turned his attention to Viviane.
“Viv , are you alright ? Sirius told me what happened.” Remus said as he sat on the ottoman facing her.
“He told you ?” She asked incredulously.
“Yes. He feels awful about it.” Remus said.
“You’ll forgive me if I don’t believe that.” She spat out, as she stood and walked over to the mantle.
“I know you are angry and you have every right to be. But from what Sirius told me, I think there is possibly another explanation for what’s going on.” He said, standing to face her.
“What’s going on is one of my best friends……… who I trusted……tried to….” Viviane couldn’t help the tears that came pouring out of her. Damn hormones, she thought.
“I know. But you may be surprised to know that Sirius is in much worse shape than you.” She turned disbelieving eyes to him. “He knows you are angry, but Harry is disgusted with Sirius, too.” Viviane bit back the urge to say ‘he should be’.
“So ……what do you think is going on ?” She asked. “Remus ?” He was just staring at her with the strangest expression.
“Viv …… you’re not ….. sending out sexual energy again are you ?” Remus asked finally.
“No ! Of course not !! I wouldn’t do that to you.” She said sharply.
“I think we may have found out what’s going on.”
“What do you mean ?”
“I feel like I did the night of the Yule Ball, only more so.” He said, still standing in the middle of the room.
“You mean when ……” She asked, not really believing. Remus pulled aside his teaching robes to reveal the large bulge in his pants. Viviane inadvertently took a step towards him.
“STOP !! Don’t come any closer, Viv ! Go into the office. I can’t trust myself to move, until you’re gone.” Remus said tightly. She could see his fists were clenched, his whole body tight. She moved to the door, opening it slightly.
“But why did Sirius attack me, you have been able to control yourself ?”
“I have more experience with these primal urges than he does. Have you been alone with any other man today ?”
“I was alone with Dran thn the classroom. But he didn’t act anything like this. I even hugged him.”
“Possibly teenage hormones might help mask your effect. Don’t be alone with any man, other than Severus, not until we can figure something out. Now go ! I can only resist so long.”
“Make sure you tell Harry, it wasn’t Sirius’ fault. He’s very upset.” With that she went into the office and closed the door. After a couple of minutes she heard the door in the chambers open and close, signaling that Remus had left.
Viviane felt strangely hopeful. There was now a reason, her long time friend had acted that way. Though if it was as Remus thought, her nymphly sexual appeal at fault, what could be done ? Especially if Severus were right this morning in thinking the pregnancy was somehow fortifying her inherit magic. This problem could get larger, and could start effecting the boys in her classes. How could she teach a class half full of highly aroused teenagers ?
Viviane sighed and went back into the chamber to get ready for dinner. She would have to talk to Severus about the happenings today, but she did not look forward to it. After dinner would be soon enough.
