Chapter Thirteen: Conversations
Harry wasn't removed from the Slytherin house and he and Draco were very happy about that. Harry nor Draco had spoken to Professor Dumbledore again.
Snape didn't need to give Dumbledore reasons, all he said is that he didn't want Harry moved. Dumbledore had no choice but to accept.
Snape was still struggling to accept the terms of Harry's life before he was taken in by the Malfoys. It was hard to believe that he was subjected to abuse, pain, and misery. Snape was always under the impression that Harry was taken to a place where he would be treated like a God. Where he would never even have to lift a finger or ask permission to do anything. Dumbledore had led everyone around by their noses, lieing to them about Harry. What else was he lieing about?
Snape was having conflicting emotions. He didn't care about the boy at one point because he had been the downfall of their Lord, but as circumstances changed, he found himself loathingly accepting him. When he had first seen him at Malfoy Manor he was angry. Angry that Lucius would take him in under his own roof, one of their greatest enemies. Then Snape got to thinking. Was this a plan? A plan that would take years to fulfill, but a great plan nevertheless. He didn't ask Lucius about the boy, he knew it would all come out.
Then one day Snape was summoned by his Master and when he apparated to their designated meeting spot he was filled with information that confirmed his thoughts years before.
Harry Potter had turned to their side.
Lucius Malfoy had taken him in with full plans of revenge on muggle-borns. Revenge for what? Revenge for living. That was enough. He had sculpted this young boys life in a completely intelligent manner. Lucius had trained the boy thoroughly in simple spells and potions, simple duelling and intelligence, alongside his own son, Draco.
When the boys were brought in for their meeting it was going to be completely black. The Death Eaters were instructed to fire disarming charms at them. Nothing that would hurt them, as they were only eleven. They had done so, and disarmed both of the boys accordingly. The whole situation was just a series of tests, the boys had failed the attack, but they had done exceedingly well in everything else. Snape nearly had a heart-attack when he heard that their Master was considering giving them their mark that day. Thankfully he reconsidered, that would have been foolish.
The boys never knew about Snape being there. They didn't know that Snape was a Death Eater, or that he was a spy. Snape would be assisting the boys in their mission for their Lord. And so far, he had heard nothing about muggles from Dumbledore's lips.
Snape was pretty sure the boys hadn't either. Who knows though, people might tend to relax their wording when they were around youngsters. Snape did have the fact that Dumbledore had tried to switch Harry to Gryffindor, but that was all.
It was approaching Christmas, and that was probably when their Lord would want to have another meeting to figure out what they had learned. During this meeting Snape would be exposed to the boys as being a part of their side. He was sure they knew that he was supporting the Dark Lord, but they had never seen proof.
All he could do was hope that Dumbledore would slip up soon, he didn't feel that Harry was emotionally prepared to have Lord Voldemort lash out at him. Draco could handle it, but Harry was questionable.
*************
One week before their two week Christmas break, Harry and Draco were eating lunch. It was the weekend so they had gotten up to the Great Hall a little bit late. The snow had begun to fall about a week ago, and the ground was now completely covered in the glimmering white snow. An older student had walked up to Harry and passed him a letter.
He recognized the thin slanted scrawl immediately and glanced at Draco, who was looking at him with a knowing expression. Harry took a quick peek at the headmaster, and noticed that he was looking away intently, finding great pleasure in the ceiling.
Harry read the letter in a low whisper, it was a request to meet with Dumbeldore tonight at seven O'clock, along with the new password to his office.
After lunch Harry and Draco decided to go outside and walk in the snow.
"My favorite snow is the stuff that is un-touched. Un-tainted," Harry said while pointing over to the snow in an untouched corner.
"Why?" Draco asked, very curious.
"Because. It's pure white. It's the whitest snow out there. No divets in it to catch the shadows, just pure and flat. Pure like us." Harry said seriously.
Draco contemplated that for a few moments, they had just walked around a corner and were now at the back of the castle.
"I think thats the most interesting thing I've ever heard come out of your mouth." Draco told him. "You usually don't talk. The fact that you can think of something so beautiful on your own is great."
Harry looked hurt.
"I'm not calling you stupid Harry. Your actually very smart, but it's just great that your breaking out. Just don't go too far Harry....You can't leave me."
"I wouldn't leave you Draco."
Draco smiled. He only ever smiled in front of Harry.
"Good." Draco said softly.
They walked for hours, enjoying the purity of the untouched snow, and each others company.
Harry stopped suddenly and cast a tempus. "6:55" It read.
He looked at Draco. "I have a meeting with Dumbledore in five minutes Draco, I've gotta hurry."
"Come straight to the Common Room when your done, I want to know what that old fool wants."
Harry nodded and tore off.
Draco watched him run through all the untouched snow, ruining it so it wasn't completly pure anymore and sighed.
It had started snowing, so hopefully it would cover that up. He walked back around carefully following the path and descended the staircase to the dungeons.
************
Harry ran up the marble staircase and down a few corridors until he came to the gargoyle. He came screeching to a halt, there was a stitch in the side of his chest that he was clutching at.
"Droobles Best Blowing Gum" he panted.
The garygoyle sprang to life, admitting him to the office.
He waited impatiently for the staircase to get to the top and knocked sharply on the door.
"Come in, Harry" came Dumbledore's voice.
Harry entered and recalled the office from the one other time he had been there. He sat down in the same chair and looked expectantly at Dumbledore. This time he was going to remember every detail of this meeting. Hopefully something good came from this to take back to his Master.
"I called you here tonight because I wanted to talk to you about Christmas Vacation."
Harry cocked an eyebrow and waited.
"Are you planning on going to Malfoy Manor over the holidays Harry?"
"Yes, Sir."
"I'm going to have to deny you that. I think it would be best if you would stay here over the holidays."
"No thank you, Sir."
"It's not a request." Dumbledore told him sternly.
"I'm not going to stay in this damned castle over holidays by myself and miss out on fun with my family." Harry told him sternly.
"They aren't your family, Harry, and you won't be alone." Dumbledore told him.
"They are as good as my family. They are actually better then my family, and who is going to be here? From my house!"
"They aren't better then your family Harry." Dumbeldore said tiredly, "And alot of people are staying over the holidays."
Harry disregarded the family remark at the moment.
"People from my house?" Harry asked. He wasn't even sure why he was discussing this. He wasn't staying.
"Yes, and people from other houses as well. I know you don't want to Harry, but you *are* staying." Dumbledore said firmly.
"I'm not." Harry said.
"You Are!"
Harry was startled. He'd never heard Dumbledore sound more angry.
"But Sir! My family has invited me home, and I want to go so bad!" Harry whined. When all else failed, whine.
"Harry stop regarding them as your family. There will be plenty of people here you can meet. Take Miss Granger for instance-"
Dumbledore was cut off by Harry's angry gasp."She's a-"
"Don't Harry! I've warned you already. She's a very intelligent girl, and you're staying. That's final. Don't go to Proffesor Snape this time, for there is nothing he can do. Now you can either mope in your room the entire vacation, or try to make friends. I don't care. But you ARE staying."
Harry was angry now. He stood up and shot his best glare in his Headmaster's direction.
"The Dark Lord will rise again! And I will remember this conversation!" Harry said sharply, and slammed his way out of the office.
Albus Dumbledore was stunned. He had an inkling, but this confirmed it. The boy has gone to the dark. Dumbledore took a deep steadying breath and stood from his chair. He had never felt more old. He was going to fight it though.
Harry Potter was staying at Hogwarts over Christmas break.
