~Chapter Thirteen: Quddich and other mind games~
James and Isis left the common room a little after six and James still looked irate.
“I told you Lily said that she liked you before you walked in.” Isis said with her broom resting on her shoulder.
“Stop trying to make me feel better.” James said bitterly.
Isis sighed. She walked out on to the cold grounds with James at her side. Matthes was waiting on the pitch.
“Good evening Isis. James.”
They both nodded a greeting.
“Alright Isis. I’ve seen you fly, now lets try your skill on the broom in the dark.”
Matthes set a few hovering fires around the pitch, “Alright everyone on your brooms!”
Isis waved at James and soared into the night sky. She looked up at the moon and felt a kind of ill-gotten giddiness take over. She was breaking several school rules in the process, but that was fine. Remus got away with it month after month. Then understanding hit her hard. James wanted Isis to play tonight so that he could slip out and go play anigmi with Remus, Sirius, and Peter. Isis grinned malevolently.
Matthes let out the snitch and Isis caught it almost instantly. Everyone cheered. She released it and let it fly for a minute before she went after it. James was watching the snitch from the ground and Isis saw that it would be almost impossible for James to resist catching it because it was drawing closer and closer to him. Isis knew that now was the moment. She flew into a dive and snatched it from just above James’s head. Isis quickly flew up and saw James sway. For a moment she was afraid that she had hit him with the brooms tail until she heard him whoop from the ground bellow.
“I knew it! I knew I wasn’t the only soul mad enough to pull that stunt.”
Matthes was shaking his head, but he was wearing a broad smile.

“You should have seen it Nina!” Isis said as the walked across the campus lawn at Liberty.
“I wish I could have.” Nina said. She looked into the sky and saw the sun sinking and sighed.
“We need to go.” Phoebe said. “No one can see Isis.”
Nina waited on the grass for the t head mistress to come and take her to the woods.
“Thank God Head Master Dumbledore gave me this idea.” She murmured.
Nina looked at the Head Mistress darkly. “Professor McCormick, why did you consult Dumbledore?”
“Well… erm… Nina, Dumbledore is a great wizard and often thinks of things that I would never dream of.”
Professor McCormick led Nina into the woods and toward a large tree that covered a thick iron door. “Here we are Nina. I’ll see you in the morning.”
Nina climbed in and smiled. “See you in the morning.”
Isis and Phoebe watched to make sure that the Head Mistress was gone before they ventured into the forest.
Isis transformed just in case someone was looking out one of the windows. Phoebe turned and looked down at Isis. “It’s disgusting you know. Even when you’re an animal I’m jealous of you.”
Isis purred contentedly.
“Aww. Phoebe, be nice.” Zoe said, “It’s no big deal that she chose a regal animal. You could have too, but you chose to be a horse.”
“I wanted to be a unicorn.” Phoebe said quietly.
“We know Phoebe.” Zoe said kindly. “Come on. We need to get into the forest before Nina begins to bite herself.”
Zoe and Phoebe ran into the forest behind Isis. Isis knew that Nina had probably already bitten herself out of shear frustration. When they got to the door Zoe pulled the door open and saw Nina’s head snap up she had been gnawing on her tail when the door opened. Isis skulked in and purred. Nina’s wolfish face beamed with joy.
Isis pressed her nose to Nina’s by means of communication. Zoe turned into an antelope and Phoebe became a horse. The four of them went out the open iron door and went into Liberty County.
In the township they prowled and Nina and Isis even chased a few squirrels in a vain attempt at food. Isis found a renewed joy at being with her friends at long last, but she felt a hole also. She felt an odd urge to include Ann, Ilsult and Lily. They had proven themselves as true friends too. As the night wore on Isis thought less and less about her new friends and prowled in the town until the gray light of dawn began to bring Nina back to her senses.
Nina couldn’t transform into anything else. They had to return to school before the sun came up. Isis also had to get back to Hogwarts before Lily and the others woke up.
Isis ran into the school after she transformed back into herself, she needed to get to a fireplace, fast. Nina went into the shelter, under the tree.
As soon as Isis ran into the school, she ran into the head mistress. Literally.
“Isis Rose Lupin!”
Isis gasped. “Hello.” She said sheepishly.
The head mistress’s lips trembled angrily. She grabbed Isis’s ear. “You’re coming with me… and I’m calling your mother.”
Isis’s eyes grew as wide as saucers. “No please don’t call mom. Please!”
Professor McCormick grabbed her ear more tightly. “I will call your mother. If your father were alive I’d call him too. How dare you trespass here, you broke all the rules that were put in effect for your protection.
Isis was lead to the office in the turret room in the back of the manor. She sighed deeply. It was all over. As soon as Dumbledore found out where she had been she’d be expelled and she obviously couldn’t attend Liberty.
Isis could feel Professor McCormick looking at her even though Isis had become very interested in her shoes. Isis felt her face flushing with embarrassment. In the past year since they had mastered becoming animals Isis had prided herself in being sneaky. Now she had been caught red-handed. What if she wasn’t the only one expelled? She had pushed her friends into this ever since Remus had told her that his friends were becoming animagi so they could spend time with him while he was a wolf. Isis couldn’t stand the thought of getting her friends expelled because of her.
“Isis, please look up at me.” A voice said, but it did not belong to Professor McCormick. Her mother had arrived.
“Hi mom.” Isis said still staring at her feet.
Mrs. Lupin lifted Isis’s chin. “I asked you to look at me.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Isis said softly.
“I want to know why you came here when you were strictly forbidden to. You trespassed Isis and risked exposure. It’s your life the Dark Lord wants, and if you are here you are at much greater risk.”
“I wanted to see my friends again.” Isis answered.
“But surly you knew that Miss Lewisham would be a werewolf last night?” Professor McCormick said demandingly.
“I must have lost track of time.” Isis said taking a renewed interest in her feet.
“How could you lose track Isis?” Mrs. Lupin asked. “You go to school with Remus now. You know your cousin who was bitten eight years ago.”
“I just did okay!” Isis exploded. “I’m sorry to trespass and I’m sorry I lost track of time. But if the Dark Lord wants me dead that badly then why argue here? So close to his stronghold!” Isis knew then that she had hit a nerve. The Dark Lord had taken refuge in New York City and was slowly picking off muggles making it look like what the muggle news called muggings, but Isis knew better. He was hoping to attract the attention of Queen Persephone so that he’d have a clear shot at Isis.
Isis hung her head. In England Voldemort’s name was whispered in pubs and feared by many, but at home the name was Dodmorderen. A protégé of Voldemort’s, Dodmorderen had killed her father in the hopes of trapping Isis. She knew it was only a matter of time before Voldemort learned of his old student’s doings. Isis knew that soon enough she would be marked no matter where she went.
