Summer Love
Chapter 10
“Hermione?” Severus asked in shock.
“What happened? The last thing I remembered was bright lights coming at us.” Hermione answered.
Severus rushed to her side and gently leaned over the bed and hugged her. Tears fell unnoticed, by him, down his cheeks onto her face.
“Are you crying? What happened?” Hermione asked.
“I’m just so relieved you’re awake. I was so scared Hermione. Scared you wouldn’t wake up.” Severus replied tearfully.
“What happened?” she asked.
“A drunk driver hit us. You were severely hurt. There was spinal damage and they did surgery to try and fix it. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. The doctor said you may regain feeling back in your legs, but you will probably never be able to walk again.” he replied sadly.
Hermione laid there. She took a deep shuttered breath and closed her eyes. Severus released her hand and sat back in the chair. Five minutes later Hermione finally spoke.
“So, what happened now?” she asked.
“I’m not sure. I guess when you’re released you’ll want to return with your parents I suppose.” he answered quietly.
“What are you saying Severus?” she questioned, confusion evident in her voice.
“I know you wouldn’t want to be around me. Especially after what happened to you.” he said.
“Stop! Severus Donavan Snape, don’t you even begin to blame yourself for this. You do and I swear, as soon as I get my wand back, I’ll hex you. When I get released I’m going home with you to Paradise Manor. Then you and I will get through this. Together.” she said as she reached out her left hand.
Severus got out of the chair and sat on the bed beside her. He then leaned down and kissed her gently. Ten minutes later. Ryan, Elise, Marianne and Chris were in the room waiting on Dr. Corday.
“Welcome back Miss Granger. I am Dr. Elizabeth Corday. I’ve been watching your progress. The night you were brought in, you had us all quite worried.” Elizabeth said.
“Hello. Severus told me about my paralysis. What options does that leave me?” Hermione asked.
“Well, there’s physical therapy, which will help in hopefully getting feeling back. Possibly another surgery. After that, I’m not sure.” Elizabeth replied.
“Dr. Corday, have you ever heard of the Hartford Center?” Severus asked.
“Yes. They have actually helped people in Hermione’s case.” Elizabeth answered.
“I was going to take Hermione there. I have a few friends who have connections at the hospital.” Severus said.
“Well, the Hermione will be in wonderful hands there. They have done nothing short of miracles at that hospital.” Elizabeth said brightly.
“When will I be released?” Hermione asked.
“Today’s Friday, I think you should be able to leave in about a week. We want to be sure that there’s no complications.” Elizabeth replied.
Dr. Corday stayed for another ten minutes to fill Hermione, Ryan and Elise in on the extent of Hermione’s injuries then left.
“I’m glad you’re all right. Now, let me see that ring.” Elise said with a smile.
Everyone gathered around and admired Hermione’s ring. After and hour and several reassurances that she would be fine, Hermione’s parents left with her aunt and uncle. Severus went with them to help get their luggage out of the car. He then returned to Hermione.
“What’s the Hartford Center?” Hermione asked.
“St. Mungo’s. While you were still unconscious, Remus and Sirius came by. Remus said I should take you there. Hopefully they can help you.” Severus answered.
“Does anyone else know?” she asked.
“No. I asked them not to say anything till you woke up and I had the chance to talk to you.” he replied.
“Thanks. We can call everyone once I get home. Deal?” she asked.
“Deal.” he answered.
Severus and Hermione spent the day talking. Severus debated about whether or not to tell her about Harry. He was so busy thinking he didn’t even hear Hermione.
“Severus! Hello!” she yelled.
“Huh? Sorry.” Severus said.
“Okay. What is it? Something’s wrong and you don’t want to tell me. Severus, just tell me. What is it?” Hermione demanded.
“All right. Yesterday when Remus and Sirius came by, they said that Harry was gone. He used raw magic the night we were in the accident. He had demanded that they tell him where you were. They said no. He used Magic to knock them down, then ran. They haven’t found him. Everyone is looking for him.” Severus sighed.
“Great. More problems.” she said.
“Don’t worry. Albus, Minerva and myself have put the Fedilus Charm on your parent’s manor as well as mine. Only those who have been there, like Draco, Millicent, Pansy, Balise Crabbe and Goyle as well as your family can find it. Well Remus and Sirius too.” he replied.
The week flew by. Finally she was released. Severus had finally gotten a new car. It was a 2005 black Jeep Cherokee. Severus helped wheel Hermione out of the hospital and eased her into the car. The drive was almost silent.
“Turn left.” Hermione said.
“What?” Severus asked.
“I said turn left.” Hermione repeated.
Severus did as she said. He found them in an isolated area. He pulled off the road and put the car in park. He then turned and faced Hermione.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Listen, I know you still feel guilty about the accident. Stop it! I meant what I said the day I woke up. If you continue to blame yourself, I will hex you. Do I make myself clear?” she said forcefully.
“I’m sorry Hermione. I was just afraid that you would blame me then leave me.” he replied sadly.
“Severus, I wouldn’t leave you. I love you. I want to and will marry you. Even if I have to wheel that damned chair down the aisle. Nothing is going to change that. We’re going to become husband and wife. I will do my apprenticeship, though I don’t know how yet, but I will. Now, let’s go home. My, no, OUR family is waiting for us.” she said.
Severus leaned over and kissed her. The kiss was sweet and loving. Then they continued to make their way to Paradise Manor. They pulled into the drive a few minutes later. Severus helped Hermione out of the car and into her wheel chair. After grabbing her bag, he pushed her into the house.
“Welcome home Hermione!” everyone cried.
Hermione smiled as she saw her parents, Aunt Marianne, Uncle Chris, Aunt Eleanor, Remus, Sirius, Albus and Minerva. Everyone gathered around her and hugged and kissed her.
“We’re so glad you’re home at last.” Eleanor said happily.
“It’s great to be home Aunt Eleanor.” Hermione said with a smile.
“Come on. Let’s head outside.” Sirius said.
Everyone headed for the backyard. Hermione insisted on wheeling herself. The backyard was set up with tiki torches, hanging lanterns and floating lanterns in the pool. Hermione just smiled. The night was nothing short of magical. Being home with her family, friends and fiancee felt so wonderful. Finally everyone left the couple alone and headed home.
“When am I going to St. Mungo’s?” Hermione asked as she sat near the living room window.
“In two days. I figured you’d like to enjoy a few days home.” Severus answered.
Severus and Hermione spent about an hour on the patio out back watching the stars. They just talked. Talked about the future, the past and the present. Severus told Hermione he was taking time off from teaching. He wasn’t about to leave her during her healing at St. Mungo’s.
