cap 12

Chap

The school year began with apprehension and at the same time excitement. Teaching seemed to come naturally to her. Her students, as all students have done, tested her at first. But, they warmed up to her after the first month.

Juan had walked her through the ropes. Hermione found comfort in her new friend. She felt as if she could tell him anything; well, almost anything.

She got used to muggle life again and actually looked forward to each morning without the use of magic making life easier. She and Juan walked to and from work. She bagged her own lunch or ate cafeteria food. She even helped to clean up her classroom without a flick of a wand.

She felt comfortable in her small apartment. It was cozy; quite a bit smaller than the house she had lived in with Ron. It was a bit larger than her Head Girl’s room at Hogwarts. But she didn’t care. It was home.

She was finally settling into her new life. She never once thought about her life back in England. She shut out thoughts about Harry and Ginny, Molly and Arthur Weasley and most of all Draco Malfoy.

So it was on a cold October day that she found herself in Doctor Hugo Mago’s office. She had been feeling under the weather for the past couple of weeks.

The grey haired, balding doctor looked over his chart and then up at the young woman sitting in front of his desk. He gave her a smile that Hermione returned.

“Bueno, Señora Weasley,” Dr. Mago looked down at her chart. “Tiene Usted una buena historia de salud.”

“Sí, gracias,” Hermione said, a little worried as she acknowledged the doctor’s take on her good medical history.

“Entonces. Yo sé que es su primero. Todo le vaya bien.”(1)

“¿First . . . qué?” Hermione said studying the doctor’s face. “¿Cómo se dice, ‘sickness.’ Eh, ¿enfermedad?”

“Uh, no, Hermione. Está embarazada.”

Hermione began to blush. Her face began to feel hot and she forced herself to take deep breaths.

“No, Hermione. In Spanish, embarazada means . . .”

“I know what that means, Doctor. I just. . . “

The doctor looked at his new patient. He rubbed his temple, “Es que no está en sus planes.”(2)

“¿Cuántos meses?” Hermione asked as she took in a deep breath.

“Tres, bueno doce semanas ayer.”

All Hermione could do was cry into her hands. ‘Twelve weeks,’ she thought to herself. She took in another deep breath. Dr. Mago raised his eyebrows in question.

“Estoy seguro que el Sr. Weasley va a entender.”(3)

Hermione let out a small sob. She looked up at the doctor. “Ron. Mi esposo se murió hace unos meses.”(4)

“I’m sorry to hear about your loss,” Doctor Mago nodded his head. “There are things we can do, Hermione.”

“Le voy a guardar,” she sniffed. (5)

“Okay,” Dr. Mago nodded his head. “Todo estará bien. In the meantime, let’s get you some extra vitamins, huh.”

Hermione nodded as the doctor led her out of the office. He put his arm around her shoulder as he led her to the pharmacy, assuring her that everything will be all right with the pregnancy.
