Chapter 12: Proposals

Last Time:
“Mrs. Weasley, I was wondering if I may have a word with Mr. Weasley. I won’t take much of his time.” Draco found himself looking at the door again as it swung shut in his face.

Draco looked at the door and sighed. Well, he now understood where Ginny got her temper. Just as he was going to give up the door opened and a slightly sheepish looking Arthur Weasley emerged.
“Let’s go talk in my shed.” Mr. Weasley said with a glance behind him when the door slammed the moment he was through it. “Molly… isn’t... Well let’s go.”
Mr. Weasley turned the corner around the side of the house and led the way to a small outbuilding. All the gadgets he found inside fascinated Draco. He had forgotten that Ginny’s father was a collector of muggle items but being a pureblood himself it just made the collection all the more interesting. He almost regretted not taking Muggle Studies when he was a student, almost.
Mr. Weasley was just about to launch into a discussion about the 1200 different kinds of plugs he had in his collection when Draco stopped him. “Ah, Mr. Weasley, sir, the reason I’m here today…” Draco’s collar suddenly got tight around his neck. “You see, Ginny and I have been seeing one another for some time and I would... That is to say… Sir I-would-like-your-permission-to-marry-your-daughter.” Draco finished in a rush.
Draco braced himself for the denial that never came. He looked up and found Arthur Weasley regarding him with an odd kind of smile.
“You aren’t going to have an easy time of it you know. Ginny’s brothers are quite protective of her.”
Draco was taken aback for a moment then laughed a little. \"Mr. Weasley if I wanted easy I would have never come to the side of the light and would have married Pansy Parkinson the moment I graduated from Hogwarts.\"
\"Well then go ask her for yourself and leave the rest of the family to me.\" Arthur said in a conspiratorial tone.
Draco thanked him then apparated back to the Hogwagategate after making a quick stop at Gringotts to retrieve a small box from his vault. He nearly ran up to castle but habit and the force of breeding made him settle for a brisk walk. He pulled up short when he saw a trio of glowering Weasley males and a gaggle of Weasley cousins grinning behind them blocking the entrance to the school.
“I suppose you have been to talk with Father.” Ron said his arms folded over his chest.
“Yes, I have.” Draco said evenly. “I’m going to talk to Ginny now. If you excuse me.” Draco tried to sidestep Ginny’s brothers.
“Not so fast Malf…” Ron began then was silenced.
Draco heard thee distinct voices say, “Petrificus Totalus.” And his eyes widened in shock when Ron, Fred, and George stiffened then fell to the ground. Draco looked up to see the three eldest of the Weasley gaggle of children with their wands drawn and wide grins on all of their faces.
Grinning at the little conspirators Draco walked past their fallen brethren and paused a moment, “When they wake up come see me if they take points from you or give you detention. I’ll see you get the points back and then some.” Draco smiled once more at the children and hurried inside. He took the stairs two at a time hurrying to find Ginny.
He finally found her in the charms classroom talking with Potter. When Potter noticed him gav gave Ginny a short hug then stood and started across the room. He put his hand on Draco’s shoulder and gave a squeeze then left Draco alone with Ginny.
“Where did you go? When you didn’t show up with Harry and Ron …” Ginny started to ask but was quickly silenced when his lips met hers. The kiss quickly deepened and Draco felt lighter than he had in years.
He reluctantly pulled away and thrust his hand quickly in his pocket and pulled out the box that had lain in his vault for nearly a decade. He opened the small box and looked at the ring he had made ten years ago. Crowning the ring was a perfect round diamond hugged on one side by yellow gold and rubies, white gold and emeralds adorned the other, creating a perfect blend of their house colors. He removed the ring from the box and dropped to one knee in front of the woman he had loved for so very long. He took her left hand in his and looked up into her eyes, shining with unshed tears.
“Ginny… Will you be my wife?” He asked simply.
With a smile and a soft sob Ginny nodded and he slipped the ring over her finger. With a smile he caught her in his arms and hugged her to him murmuring, “I love you Ginny, so very much.”
He kissed her again deeply and sweetly finally at peace with all that he had done and the Darkness that had chased him his entire life was finally banished forever.

Harry smiled as the happy couple entered the great hall to raucous applause from the entire school. He was happy to see that even Ron and the twins were clapping along even if it took the wand of their eldest nephew to make them comply. Harry was happy for them but he couldn’t help but feel sad in a way. Draco’s question had been on his mind all day.
Why *was* he still alone after ten years of freedom from his destiny? Why did the-boy-who-saved-the-wizarding-world throw himself into his work and continue to chase after dark wizards year after year?
He knew the answer but was only just starting to face up to the fact that the one woman he ever loved was married to someone else.

A/N: Ok my lovelies that is the end… The sequel will be coming in a couple of months and will start with Draco and Ginny’s wedding. Who is Harry’s mystery love? Hmmm? You’ll find out eventually I promise.
I have other stories I must finish before I start the sequel but you can be assured that it is coming along and I have started outlining it.
