Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Malfoy was sitting at his desk in his study when someone walked in. Malfoy looked up.
“Yellin.”
“Sire.” Noticing that he was still in the doorway Yellin came to the prince’s side kneeling.
“As chief enforcer to all Florin, I trust you with this secret. Killers from Guilder are infiltrating the Thieves’ Forest and plan to murder my bride on our wedding night.” said Malfoy.
“My spy network has heard no such news.” replied Yellin.
Just then Hermione came in. “Any word from Severus?”
“Too soon my angel. Patience.” Malfoy responded.
“He will come for me.”
“Of course.” With that Hermione left. Turning back to Yellin Malfoy continued. “She will not be murdered. On the day of the wedding I want the Thieves’ Forest emptied and every inhabitant arrested.”
“Many of the thieves will resist. My regular enforcers will be inadequate.”
“Form a brute squad, then! I want the Thieves’ Forest emptied before I wed.”
“It won’t be easy, sire.”
“Try ruling the world sometime.”
With something in mind to ponder Yellin left.
---------------
The day of the wedding came. The brute squad and the rest of Yellin’s men had a time carrying out the emptying of the Thieves’ Forest.
-----------------
Yellin was on one of the carts carrying prisoners when it stopped as a man came up to him. Yellin questioned him.
“Is everybody out?”
“Almost. There’s a Spaniard impersonator giving us some trouble.”
“Well you give him some trouble.” Yellin then turned to the cart driver. “Move.”
----------------
“I am waiting for you, Crabbe. You told me to go back to the beginning, so I have. This is where I am, and this is where I will stay. I will not be moved.” said a drunk Harry to no one in particular.
The man that had talked to Yellin came up. “Ho there.”
“I do not budge. So keep your “Ho there”.”
“But the prince gave orders.”
“So did Crabbe. When a job went wrong, you go back to the beginning. This is where I got the job it’ it’s the beginning. And I am staying till Crabbe come.”
Frustrated the man hollered, “You brute, come here.”
Harry was still muttering on about going back to the begging and waiting for Crabbe when the brute came up. He said hello to Harry then preceded to knock out the other man. As it turned out, Hagrid happened to be the brute. Needless to say Harry was quite thrilled, or as thrilled as a drunk man can be, at seeing Hagrid again.
Following reuniting with each other, Hagrid told Harry about Crabbe’s death and also finding out about Count Goyle the six fingered man. Taking into consideration Harry’s twenty or so year search, he handled the news relatively well. After being revived by Hagrid, Harry asked Hagrid where Goyle was.
“He’s with the prince in the castle.” replied Hagrid, “But the gate is guarded by thirty men.”
“How many could you handle?”
“I don’t think more then ten.”
“Leaving twenty for me. At my best I don’t think I could defeat that many.”
Tailing that revelation was a discussion of who they would need to strategize. Crabbe being dead and Harry and Hagrid not being able to plan properly, Harry decided they needed to find the man in black to help them. Hagrid wondered why they needed the man in black to which Harry replied.
“He best you with strength, your greatness. He bested me with steel. He must have out-thought Crabbe. A man who can do that can plan my castle onslaught any day.”.
With that Harry set off trying to find the man in black with Hagrid following him.
-----------------
Up at the castle Malfoy was getting the report on the emptying of the Thieves’ Forest. Yellin informed the prince that all was well and “Thirty men guard the castle gate” and there was only one key to the gate, which he carried. Malfoy being only partly satisfied demanded that the number of men guarding the castle gate be doubled. At that point Hermione came in.
“Ah. My dulcet darling!” exclaimed Malfoy, “Tonight, we marry. Tomorrow morning we will be escorted to Florin Channel where every ship in my armada will accompany us on our honeymoon.”
“Every ship but your four fastest.” supplied Hermione.
Malfoy hesitated, “Yes. Yes, of course. Naturally not those four.”
Sensing his present would be most unwelcome Yellin excused himself.
Hermione spoke without missing a beat. “You never sent the ships. Don’t bother lying. Although it doesn’t matter Severus will come for me anyway.”
“You’re a silly girl.”, Malfoy said while striding over to his desk.
“Yes I am a silly girl for not seeing sooner that you were nothing more then a coward with a hefullfull of fear.”
Trying to keep his head Malfoy replied through gritted teeth, “I would not say such things if I were you.”
Going to stand in front of Malfoy’s desk Hermione continued, “Why not? You can’t hurt me. Severus and I are joined by the bonds of love and you can’t track that, not with a thousand bloodhounds. And you can’t break it not with a thousand swords. And when I say you are a coward it is only because you are the slimiest weakling ever to crawl the earth!”
Completely enraged Malfoy said, “I would not say such things if I were you!”
Malfoy then grabbed Hermione’s arm dragging her behind him. He took her to a room and locked her inside taking the key with him.
---------------
Malfoy ran all the way to the Pit of Despair. He ran in and right up to Severus. He was so angry that a vain in his neck was sticking out. Malfoy spoke to Severus in an extremely deadly way.
“You truly love each other and so you might have been truly happy. Not one couple in a century has that chance no matter what the story books say. So I think no man in a century will suffer as greatly as you will.”
Malfoy turned to the machine that Severus was still hooked up to. He pushed the lever up all the way it could go. At this the count who had just been watching this odd interaction screamed out, “Not to fifty!” Goyle relaxed a bit then at the reaction that Severus was having do to the Machine. The count began to jot down notes to be examined thoroughly later.
----------------
Hermione locked in her room heard screams of pain. The men guarding the gate, people in the little village neo tho the castle also heard the screams. Harry and Hagrid on their venture to find the man in black, also heard the screams. At this Harry stopped where he was going.
Turning to Hagrid Harry asked, “Do you hear that? That is the sound of ultimate suffering. My heart made that sound when Goyle murdered my father. The man in black makes it now.”
“The man in black?,” inquired Hagrid.
“His true love is marrying another tonight, so who else has cause for ultimate suffering?”
Harry then started to try to get through the crowd of village people. Quickly getting nowhere Harry looked to Hagrid.
“EVERYBODY MOVE.” yelled Hagrid. At this the whole village went silent. As Harry and Hagrid walked the people parted to make a path.
--------------------------
Awhile later Harry and Hagrid came upon a Al the albino. Harry stopped Al with the tip of his sword. Al carefully scanned the tip of the sword the looked up to see Harry and Hagrid. Harry requested to know where the man in black was. When Al didn’t answer Harry told Hagrid to jog Al’s memory. Unfortunately Hagrid jogged bit bit too much and Al fell over into the wheelbarrow he had been pushing.
Hagrid apologized to Harry about jogging Al too hard, but Harry wasn’t standing next to Hagrid anymore. Harry had walked away from Hagrid and was kneeling on the ground with sword pointed to the sky. He then proceeded to beg his father to help him find out where the man in black was. Harry was telling his father to guide his sword.
Harry then got up off his knees. He was zigzagging around, his sword pointed out when suddenly his sword poked into a tree and he stopped. Slightly disappointed that his father had guided him to a tree Harry sighed and leaned his head on his arm and his arm on the tree. After a few seconds the tree opened for a very surprised Harry and Hagrid.
Cautiously Harry stepped inside with Hagrid behind him. They walked slowy down a set of darkened stairs.
----------------------------
When they had gotten to the bottom of the stairs Harry and Hagrid found what they were looking for. The man in black was strapped to a table. They approached him, then Hagrid checked for a pulse.
“He’s dead.” Hagrid said sorrowfully.
Harry couldn‘t believe what he was hearing. “He can’t be dead. He has to help us. Check again.”
Hagrid checked again but still had the same reply. “He’s dead.”
“It’s just not fair.” Harry said with a mixture of sorrow and disappointment in his voice.
