Ten - The Omen, the Feeling, and a Party
The beginning of class went smooth, as usual, and after the power spell, I finished the few students I had left for readings. Again, I saved Draco for last. He entered the reading room, and sat smugly in his chair.
"Thank you for the kiss at breakfast," Draco smirked.
"Well, thank you for the flowers," I blushed, taking my seat across from him.
"When will my real kiss come?" he asked while holding his hands out.
I smiled through the ever constant visions. "I can only hope that it might come sooner than you think."
I removed my gloves and took his hands. The rush of falling brought us to nothing but white. Something suddenly appeared. It was a symbol of an ankh. Then it warped, swallowed by the symbol of a heart pierced with an arrow. Both of these symbols meshed together and turned black, then slowly flipped around to reveal it's red backside. The emblem started to pick up speed, flashing it's red and black furiously. As fast as it came, it soon faded to nothing, and everything went black.
The darkness stayed, but something started to happen. An intense feeling started to take over. I felt a rippling vibration of heated passion. My body and mind lost all control and became flooded with nothing but intense arousal, so much that I quickly found myself desperate. I still couldn't see anything. What is going on? I just felt that I needed to be touched. Anywhere. Everywhere. What does this feeling mean? Why do I feel it so intensely? My breathing became broken. I begged for relief, and pulled with any sanity I had left. In that moment a light flashed through my sight, and broke the connection. Draco and I were thrown back in our seats, and came to rest at opposite sides of the room. I grabbed my chest, still feeling my heart pound all over my body. I looked at Draco, who was doing much of the same.
"What the bugger was that?!" Draco asked as he steadily got up from the floor.
"You... you never felt that before?" I asked realizing what that might mean.
"No, but I wouldn't mind feeling that again," he smiled, still dazed.
"Well, I figured the symbols to have been a possible fore sight, but I never had an undeveloped emotion before."
"Pardon?"
I smiled at him. "It means that we just had a future reading."
"Don't you fortune teller types read the future?" he asked.
"Well, a true seer doesn't, because it can't be seen in the way most people think. The future constantly changes with each second, although there are some destinies that time cannot touch. If anything, we just get clues, like the symbols we saw," I said as I searched around for one of my old omen books. "As for that feeling we experienced, I really don't know."
I found my book and starting skimming through my pages of interest. Draco brought his chair next to mine, and read along with me.
"Let's see. We saw an ankh, an Egyptian cross with the loop on top. A heart with the arrow of Amor. Finally the colors of red and black."
I read the pages and deciphered what they entailed.
"What? Is it bad?" Draco asked as I closed the book.
I paused on how to put words to it. "An omen is a hint to what might happen in the possible future. Your indication, basically says this. If events were to follow, you will be involved in a life or death decision concerning a loved one."
"A loved one? Who?"
"I cannot say. It might be a lover, family member, or even a well loved friend. It could mean their life, or even yours. The decision could also inherently involve every aspect of that."
He winced in his thoughts, and gripped the chair. I put my gloves back on as my pain in my heart grew worse.
"Draco, this revelation, is completely left up to chance. As far as we know, that decision could already be set into motion, or it may happen many years from now. The arrow of Amor that was driven though the heart in that vision means something good. It symbolizes love over pain, and that it will endure," I said as I pushed through my pain, and gently kissed his cheek. I felt his thoughts calm as my lips left him. "If anything does happen," I whispered close, "you can bet that I will be there for you if you should ever need me."
I smiled and sat back, taking a few good breaths.
"It hurts, doesn't it? Being close to me," he asked as he stood and walked towards the curtain.
I looked into his eyes as he met mine. "Not nearly as much as the thought of never being close to you."
He gave a soft smile, and opened the curtain. "You know Jewel, I'd wait forever for you."
As he stepped out of the curtain, the pain vanished, and I blew out a tremendous sigh. I held my glowing face, and laughed. If that damn potion didn't work, I was going to go crazy! I stepped out of the room just as the bell rang for the end of class.
I went up to my room before dinner to change, and saw another rose at my door. I brought the rose inside, and read the note attached to it. It read:
Always thinking of you.
Love,
Draco
I kissed the paper and giggled. Always now? Always is right.
I entered the hall for dinner and sat with my usual company.
"How did your day go?" Hermione asked.
"Oh it went pretty good, thanks," I said smiling at her radiance. "The real question is, how did your day go?"
She blushed hard and gave her neighbor Ron a kiss on the cheek. "It's been fantastic."
Ron gave a grin with a mouth full of food.
"Yeah, they haven't been able to keep their hands off of each other," Harry laughed looking at them both. "It's been kinda nice though. Hermione hasn't complained at all today about anything."
"Harry!" Hermione yelled kicking Harry under the table.
When I finished, I approached McGonagall to see when I was going to get my class schedule.
"Oh, it's right here Jewel," she smiled as she took the list of classes out of her robes and handed it to me. "One other thing. Your grandfather tells us that your birthday is in a few weeks. Dumbledore has insisted that we throw you a party, for your birthday, and to thank you for the excellent job you have done."
I was speechless. "Are... are you sure? That sounds like fun! I haven't had a real party in ages! Really though, are you sure?"
"Of course! It will be fun. We will make it a formal affair, with lots of music and food. You are welcome to invite all of your friends and they can bring someone if you would like. We will make it for the Saturday of your birthday in this hall, at about seven. Sound good?"
"Sounds great! Thank you Minerva, and tell Professor Dumbledore thank you as well!" I hugged her tightly and ran back to the trio that were just finishing up.
"You guys!" I yelled as I caught up. "I'm going to have my birthday party here, in about three weeks, you guys will come right?"
Ron's eyes lit up. "A party? Of course we'll come!"
They all nodded their heads in excitement.
"Great! It will be formal, so dress to impress, and you can... well, Harry, you can bring someone with you. We already know who Ron's taking."
We said our goodbye's, and I made my way to the common room to invite a few more of my friends to the party.
I finished the day with a long bath, followed by a letter to my mother about the news. As I finally crawled into bed, I started to think about Draco. I really hoped that potion was going to work, but even if it didn't, I was still going to ask him to be with me on my birthday. He was the only present I wanted anyway.
