I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
the evening befroe a war
Draco was exhausted. Not just exhausted, but rather he was worn out in every conceivable way that was even remotely possible. He had just finished a tenth round of utterly mind boggling sex with Harry, both cementing his new claim on his mate and at the same time reassuring his lover that he had made the right choice in giving control to Draco.
It was emotionally taxing trying to reassure the smaller boy that Draco had no ulterior motives behind his desire to have the kind of control he had asked for over Harry when in fact he did. Had Draco been a different kind of person he would have felt a twinge of guilt at the need to lie to his mate about something so obviously important.
But Draco wasn’t a different kind of person and what he did he did for his mate. If he had told Harry the boy would have done something silly and ridiculously heroic, like refuse Draco’s solution to the problem. That was something that Draco couldn’t allow. No, his way had been better. It took Harry out of danger and allowed Draco the ability to shield the boy from one more problem that had come into his life.
Not that Draco’s way was much of a solution. In fact it wasn’t a solution at all. The danger was still there and the consequences of what would happen if a real solution wasn’t found still loomed. They just didn’t loom over Harry.
Draco sighed and sat down on the couch, picking up one of the books he had brought back from the library. In a way the whole thing was Draco’s fault in the first place. If Harry had been mated to another fae there wouldn’t have been a problem in the first place. But Draco wasn’t fae and while being a Veela gave him advantages over witches and other wizards, it still wasn’t as good as being a fae.
At least not in this situation.
Not that any of that mattered at the moment. What did matter was trying to find a real solution to the problem that lay ahead. And hopefully Draco could do just that with the books that he had found in the library. He doubted very seriously that the books would have any answers for what Harry was about to go through, but he did believe that they could lead him in the right direction of finding those answers. Before it was too late.
Draco became thoughtful for a moment before shaking out of his maudlin thoughts and letting out a small laugh.
At least if things did go south Draco wouldn’t have to explain what went wrong.
He’d be dead.
Ron and Blaise had gone back to Blaise’s room and after breakfast and had remained there ever since. Ron was asking question after question and Blaise trying his hardest to answer them as seriously as he could, but more often than not failing, because even though he may love Ron his mate had a peculiar way of making even the most serious conversation absolutely absurd.
“So the entire fuck the boyfriend and then not get out thing…is that a walker thing?”
Blaise chocked a bit on the tea had been sipping during one of the natural breaks in Ron’s questioning.
“I mean because you’ve been doing it ever since we started sleeping together so I was just wondering if that was some kind of mating thing your kind does?” Then Ron narrowed his eyes. “You’re not trying to get me preggers are you?”
After Blaise stopped choking he let out a laugh.
“No I’m not trying to get you pregnant. That’s not even possible.”
“You sure?” Ron asked suspiciously. “I’ve heard rumors that some magic creatures can do that.”
“Yeah? Well I’m not one of them so don’t worry too much about it.”
“Okay then. So what’s that all about then, eh?”
Blaise turned took another swallow of his tea and looked away from Ron. The truth was that Blaise loved being inside Ron. He loved feeling connected to him. It was the closest that he could be to Ron without actually having a full bond with him. The spell he had cast between them not withstanding.
Walkers were used to packs to family. Coming to school had been a hardship for Blaise Being separated from his family and kind was difficult to say the least. If it hadn’t been for Draco Blaise would have lost his mind some time ago. And had things remained the same. Draco would have been all he needed. But then he had run into Ron.
That changed everything.
If they had been back in his pack, he and Ron would have been life-mated already. Fast, by wizarding standards, but walkers only got one mate per life. When they found that special one, they didn’t bother wasting time courting. It was their way.
The whole truth was all of that plus he loved annoying Ron.
It was a past time.
“Yeah. It’s a walker thing.”
Ron nodded. “So I should just get used to it?”
“I thought you were used to it,” Blaise asked a bit surprised.
“Well yeah,” Ron said a bit embarrassed. “I was just asking though wasn’t I.”
Blaise smiled. “Suppose you were.”
“So what now?”
“What do you mean?”
“The entire Voldemort thing, the locket. What are we suppose to do now.”
“Oh,” Blaise said having forgotten all about the incident. “I suppose we simply wait for something to happen. And when it does we take action.”
“That’s the best you got?”
“Pretty much, yeah.”
Ron snorted. “Sounds a bit barmy if you ask me. Maybe we should be a bit more proactive than just wait and see.”
“Well,” Blaise said sidling up to Ron. “We don’t have to just sit around and do nothing.”
“Oh,” Ron said giving Blaise a look. “What do you suggest we do?”
Blaise kissed Ron softly, drawing the other boy towards him with soft pecks. Then abruptly he got up and started walking towards the door.
“I suggest we get dinner. You’ve kept me in here all day answering your questions and I’m hungry.”
Ron collapsed on the bed. He gave a small huff and a bit of a growl. And then he got up and followed Blaise to the great hall.
Scrimgeour sat at his desk studying a map of the England. It was only a matter of time now. First Hogwarts would fall and then the rest of the country. And then he would have the entire wizarding world in his grasp.
The fools Voldemort and Dumbledore could fight over whose philosophy was better, but all he wanted was control. And he would have it.
Shacklebolt came into Scrimgeour’s office.
“There was a bit of a situation and two students had to be dealt with,” stated without preamble.
“It’s of no consequence. It won’t be long now. Another few days.”
“One student is dead for sure. The other though was saved. We don’t know by who though. But in their escape the eater hex was cast. Deep in the dark forest.”
Scrimgeour grew a hooded look like a falcon watching its prey.
“That then is a problem.”
“What would you like us to do about it?”
Scrimgeour was silent for a moment and then sat back in his chair with a sick smile strewn across his lips.
“What any good leader would do. Turn the time table up.”
Shacklebolt merely nodded. “We can be set to go in a few hours. We wont have full support though.”
“We don’t need it. We only need to deal with students and Potter. And he isn’t even a threat yet. Not for a few more months yet.”
Shacklebolt nodded and turned to carry out his orders. Scrimgeour smiled.
