A heated disagreement
Chapter 11: A heated disagreement
Hermione straightened her spine as she entered the Great Hall. Her nerves pooled in her stomach, making her sick as she met Severus’ gaze across the room. He nodded in acknowledgement and she hastily looked away to sat down next to the boys. She took an unsteady breath to calm her rapidly beating heart.
Harry patted her on the arm, “Okay there, ‘Mione?”
“Yeah, I mean yes of course.” Another hand came down on her shoulder, making her jump and spin half way around. It was an awkward position to be in. “Err… Professor McGonagall? Is something wrong?”
Minerva nodded slightly, “I’m afraid that you can’t sit here, you’ll need to sit with the staff at the head table dear. I’m sorry.”
Hermione’s shoulders sagged slightly, before tensing up and standing. She made her way to the empty seat next to Severus. ‘What a coincidence!’ She harrumphed an slide into the seat beside him, “Good morning, Profess…err…Severus.” She said politely, stumbling over his name.
He turned so that he was looking at her, trying and failing miserably at trying to keep his usual scowl off of his face, “Hermione.” He looked back at his plate and stabbed at the breakfast ham there. “My Grandfather will me here for lunch, and has requested that you and I meet with him to finalize some of the…stipulations… for this…” He grimaced, “Marriage. Albus has been asked by James Wallace to fill in on his behalf for the signing of the contracts.”
“Contracts…” She chocked out softly, “Oh for goodness sakes! This is ridiculous, it’s a marriage not some merger…oh wait that is what it is isn’t it… its still fucking ridiculous.”
“Ms. Granger! Watch your tongue!” He reprimanded sharply.
She rolled her eyes. “Its Hermione to you and I’ll say exactly what I want.” She stood, not caring that she hadn’t eaten yet.
He clasped a hand around her wrist and yanked her back down into her chair. “Do not make a scene.” He refrained from showing his shock at the sharp zing of awareness that touching her was stirring up inside of him.
“Let me go!” She hissed, ignoring the feelings his touch was eliciting within her.
“Only of you quit acting foolish.” He berated in a heated whisper.
She harrumphed once again and nodded.
He eyed her carefully as he slowly let go of her wrist. “Meet me in my office at 11:30.” He stood and gracefully left the hall.
Hermione bowed her head and concentrated on eating a piece of bacon, that she swiped from his abandoned plate, before leaving as well.
She needed to do something….anything. She just couldn’t sit around and do nothing.
