Chapter 10

For 24 hours Severus spent his time watching Hermione and stirring the potion as Hermione instructed. He knew that even if the spell worked, she would still have a long road of recovery. She had been living with this for 3 or 4 years now. Something like that you don’t just brush aside.

‘What am I going to do when she wakes up? Confess my undying love for her? She’ll laugh me out of Hogwarts. That or blast me to hell and back. Hermione Granger has always had a temper. He told Albus that Hermione was not to be disturbed as she was working on the potion and that he would be helping. He took his meals in her chambers and waited patiently for her to awaken. Finally, she began to stir.

“Mmm.” Hermione sighed as she slowly sat up and stretched.

“Good evening Miss Granger.” Severus said.

“Evening. Have you been here the whole time?” Hermione asked.

“Yes. When I wasn’t tending to the potion. I wanted to make sure there were no unforeseen side effects.” Severus answered.

Hermione nodded. She climbed out of bed and headed for the bathroom. Severus stood and walked into her sitting room. He began pacing as he waited for her. She emerged ten minutes later wearing a clean pair of pajamas in a royal blue color. She called down to the kitchens and ordered something to eat.

“So, what have you told Albus about my absence?” she questioned.

“I told him you were working with the potion and I was helping.” he answered.

Hermione nodded. Her food arrived and she began eating. Once finished Severus sat in the chair across from her and waited. There was silence for a few moments as Hermione gathered her thoughts. Once composed she just faced him.

“Did you have any nightmares while you were asleep?” he asked.

“I started to have one. But instead of just letting it happen I fought back and killed them. Then I saw Lucius standing in front of me. He couldn’t see my face, but he was pissed. He tried to attack me, but some kind of invisible barrier protected me. I just glared at him.” she answered.

“Did he say anything?” he questioned.

“Yes. He kept saying I was his and always would be. Then I snarled that I belonged to no one but myself. He may have scared me physically, but he no longer held control of my mind. Then he started screaming and he was gone.” she explained.

“And how do you feel?” Severus enquired.

“I feel…free. I mean I know I still have a lot of issues to work through, but those have nothing to do with what Lucius did. They are dealing with all I’ve seen and done. I feel like I’m back in control of my mind.” Hermione replied.

“I am glad to hear that.” Severus said.

Hermione sent the dishes back to the kitchens and headed for the lab. Severus followed. She checked on the potion. It was right where it needed to be. In a few weeks, she would add the final ingredients and the potion would be complete. After writing down her observations she and Severus returned to the sitting room.

“Well, I will let you get some rest and see you in the morning.” Severus said as he began to leave.

“Wait.” Hermione said.

Severus turned and looked at her. She walked up to him and stared into his eyes.

“Stay with me.” she said.

“Are you sure?” he asked.
