“Hermione? Are you okay?” Harry asked.

“What? Oh, yeah, I’m fine,” she replied.

Harry and Ron exchanged worried glances. Hermione had been acting like this ever since Lialani had been released from the hospital wing a week ago. Her first day back, McGonagall allowed her to bring Aglaia in to show everyone during Transfiguration. As soon as everyone saw the baby’s eyes, they assumed that she was Harry’s. Lialani simply smiled whenever someone complimented her baby’s eyes, and Harry offered no resistance when people said that she looked like him. But Harry disagreed. There was something vaguely familiar about Aglaia’s face and he couldn’t put his finger on it. This puzzled him greatly.

“You sure?” Harry asked again.

“Harry, I’m fine!” she snapped. “Now can you please let me get back to my Charms’ homework?”

“Hey, where’s Lialani?” Ron wondered, glancing around the nearly empty common room.

“Serving detention with Flitwick,” Hermione answered immediately.

“What? What’d she do to make him mad? He never gets mad, not even when Seamus blew up the bookshelf,” Harry said.

“She started swearing at him because of something, I don’t remember what. I think he corrected something, and she snapped back, and they got into this huge argument, and he sent her to Dumbledore’s office because she started the fight and because she was swearing and gave her a month of detention,” Hermione explained.

“Wow, Dumbledore’s office? For that little thing she got sent there?” Ron was surprised.

“Yeah, well, she never showed up. Dumbledore has no idea that she got into enough trouble to be sent to him. Which is probably good because he already worries about her enough and plus about Voldemort and the upcoming summer,” Hermione replied.

“Plus what’s Lialani going to do over the summer? I don’t think she’s been home in five years since she’s been spending the summers here. She can’t do that this summer,” Harry said.

“What makes you think that she won’t go home this summer, you prat?” Ron asked.

“Nothing. Never mind. Of course she’ll go home,” Harry replied. Now he was confusing himself.

Hermione listened to this exchange, face hidden behind her book. She knew what Lialani was doing this summer and it wasn’t either of the things that Harry said. She was moving in with Snape and they were getting married. Lialani told her everything.

“Hey, ‘Mione, do you know what Lialani’s doing this summer?” Harry asked, tapping the top of her book with his quill.

“No, I don’t,” she answered, the lie leaving a bitter taste in her mouth.

“I’ll just ask Lialani when she gets back,” Harry said.

“Won’t that seem a little nosy?” Hermione asked.

“Well, I just want to know what she’s doing over the summer. Maybe we can all get together or something,” Harry answered. “I’m just wondering.”

Hermione didn’t reply. She just ducked back behind her book. A few minutes later, she heard someone scramble in through the portrait hole. She looked up, hoping that it was Lialani, but was disappointed when she saw Parvati’s face.

“Have you guys heard?” she panted, holding the stitch in her side.

“Heard what?” Ron asked, standing up to help her.

“Who Lialani’s baby’s father is,” Parvati replied, straightening up as the stitch vanished.

“Nope. Who is it?” Now she had gotten Harry’s attention.

“Snape.”

Two jaws dropped at that statement. Hermione stayed hidden, peeking over her book to see the boys’ reaction. It was just as she thought. Harry’s face paled while Ron’s faurneurned red.

“Are you sure?” Harry asked.

“Yup. Pansy’s been spreading the word around all day. Says she got it from a very reliable source,” Parvati answered.

“Who?” Harry didn’t know whether to believe her or not.

“Won’t say. Apparently, she believes in keeping the person’s identity a secret. Which is bull. My guess is she got paid to keep her mouth shut,” Parvati smirked.

Hermione swallowed roughly. As a matter of fact, Pansy had been paid 50 Galleons not to reveal the name. How did Hermione know this? Simple, really. Hermione Granger had spilled the beans.

“How can Dumbledore allow that?” Harry fumed. “He’s a teacher and she’s a student! They had a baby together!”

“Well, I’m not done yet,” Parvati interrupted his raging. “Lialani’s moving in with him over the summer and they’re getting married.”

This time Ron exploded. “They’re getting MARRIED?!? They can’t do that, Lialani’s not of age! That’s horrible for her! Wait, is it a Muggle or wizarding marriage?”

“Wizarding,” Parvati replied.

“Dammit! Those are so much harder to get rid of then Muggle ones!” Ron began to pace around, angrily slamming his fist into his palm.

“They both agreed with it,” Parvati said.

“WHAT? Lialani willingly went along with this?” Ras fas furious now.

“She loves him,” Hermione whispered, still hidden by her thick book.

“Wait, did I hear you right?” Harry snatched the book from in front of her, startling her and revealing her face.

“Yes, you did,” Hermione said defiantly. “She loves him.”

Ron looked like his head was about to explode. He apparently couldn’t process that information.

“How d’you know that?” he asked.

“Lialani told me everything from the beginning,” Hermione replied.

“So you knew and you didn’t tell us? Even during this entire time when everyone was saying that she’s Harry’s kid you didn’t say anything?” Ron was shocked. Hermione didn’t usually keep secrets like this.

“I promised her that I wouldn’t say anything to anyone. I’m not one who breaks promises.”

“Why are you telling us now?”

“Because everyone knows now so what’s the point in keeping the secret?”

“Oh, so we only get to know when everyone else knows? Like we’re not even two of your closest friends?”

“I’m sorry, Ron, I’m really sorry!”

“Hold on. Are you the only person Lialani told?”

“Yeah. Why?” Hermione didn’t see the obvious direction the conversation was taking.

“So you told Pansy Parkinson! You told on Lialani!”

Hermione didn’t deny it.

“You couldn’t tell us the truth but you could tell the girl with the biggest mouth in school?” It was Harry’s turn to rant at her. “Not to mention she’s a Slytherin.”

“I didn’t like the fact that everyone said you were the father.”

Harry looked at her, puzzled. “Why do you care when Lialani obviously doesn’t?”

“My own reasons. And Lialani does care. She hates the fact that no one can know who the real dad is. Well, she used to, now that everyone knows she must be happy.”

“Snape and Dumbledore aren’t,” Parvati said.

The three looked at her. They had forgotten she was there. Then the portrait door swung open and Minerva strode in.

“Has anyone seen Miss Turowsky?” she asked. Her worried eyes belied the stern tone she used.

“She’s serving detention with Professor Flitwick,” Ron replied.

“No, she’s not there. I checked there and I also tried the hospital wing but when I got there, Madam Pomfrey was raising a fuss because it seems that Aglaia is missing, too. Miss Granger, check the dormitory,” she ordered.

“Yes, Professor,” Hermione hurried up the steps.

A minute later, she came back, tears welling up in her eyes. She was alone.

“She’s not there but her invisibility cloak is gone from her trunk. Her stuff is thrown all over the floor,” she reported as a single bead of salty wetness spilled over and zigzagged down her cheek.

“I’ll have to tthe the Headmaster. Please, stay here and do not go out to look for her,” Minerva said and stepped out.

“We’re looking for her,” Hermione stated. “I want to know that she’s and find out on my own.”

“I was just thinking the same thing.” Ron nodded. “Harry?”

“Of course. I’ll get the cloak.” Harry raced up the steps and returned a second later with the cloak. “Ready?”

“I’ll do my invisibility charm,” Hermione said and cast it.

“That’s a good idea, ‘Mione. Now there’s more room for us under the cloak,” Harry teased as he threw the cloak over him and Ron. “Wait, how will we know where you are if you’re invisible, too?”

“I’ll keep my hand on your shoulder,” Hermione replied and after gro aro around for a minute, she placed her hand on Harry’s shoulder.

“Okay, let’s go,” Harry whispered and they climbed out the portrait hole.
